Obituary: Jack Kenneth Noyes was born in Kansas City, Missouri on 4, 1925 to Iva Gramling Noyes and Benjamin Franklin Noyes. Benjamin Noyes died in 1927 and soon after Jack moved with his mother and brother, William E. Noyes to Midland, Texas. Jack started school in 1931 at North Elementary. missing a few days in the first grade due to a serious illness and then a broken arm, Jack was very proud to have perfect attendance for the rest of his school days to high school graduation. Jack started learning to play football from an older friend he made at church. He was so happy that football was introduced to the two elementary schools when he was in the third grade. He proudly played the position of tailback at North Ward. Jack continued working hard at football and in high school was named All District . Jack also became interested in music and learned to play the trombone. While still in the sixth grade, he was invited to play with the high school band and earned first chair, first stand. He continued playing in the high school band through graduation. In the last football game of Jacks senior year, he marched with the band at halftime in his football uniform. Boy Scouts was another of Jacks serious interests. He earned his own money to be able to go to summer scout camp, which he admits increased his desire to succeed in scouts. Through his efforts, he was the first Midlander to earn the Order of the Arrow camping honor award. He continued in scouts, helping others, as Senior Patrol Leader and Den Chief. high school graduation, Jack enrolled at Texas A&M to play football. Soon after he joined the Navy in a reserve program for college students and was called to active duty. Jack served on the USS Brooklyn and was involved in securing southern France from German invasion. He later received a Congressional appointment to the Naval Academy Prep School and was transferred to the USS Philadelphia for a short time. In 1946 Jack enrolled at Texas Tech in the civil engineering program. While at Tech, Jack went on a blind date and met Betty Davis who would become his wife for 50 years. Jobs became scarce in the engineering field and in 1948 he changed his major to accounting. graduation, he got an offer to coach football and teach math at Amherst and jumped on that opportunity. From there, Jack and Betty moved to Sonora where he taught math and coached basketball, football and track. Jacks first daughter Debbie was born in Sonora. Another job opportunity crossed his path in 1952. Bell Helicopter had need of someone with engineering and accounting education. Jack accepted the job and moved his family to Arlington, Texas. Soon after, daughter Patti was born. Jack retired from Bell Helicopter after 30 years and moved to Selma Alabama to work for Beechcraft. He said he loved helping to design helicopters but he would like to learn more about airplanes. He enjoyed planes so much he bought one and flew all over the eastern and southwestern United States. retiring from Beechcraft, Jack and Betty moved to Midland and enjoyed bowling and attending Midland baseball games. One of his favorite post-retirement jobs was volunteering for the Midland Police Department in the office. In 1998 Jack lost his beloved wife to cancer. Bettys passing, several people offered a shoulder to Jack. He was grateful to those who drove him where he needed to go, shared a meal with him or just spent time with him. One of those people was Jeanette Darrough who became Jacks loving companion. Jack and Jeanette became well-known at the Rockhound games as staunch supporters. The Rockhounds presented Jack with the 2014 Rocky the Rockhounds Fan Award. Jack is predeceased by his mother Iva Maxson, father Ben Noyes and brother Billy Noyes. Jack is survived by daughter, Debbie Leonard and husband Larry of Mountain View, Missouri, daughter Patti Speer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeanette Darrough, grandson Greg Bryant and wife Veronica of Midland, great-grandchildren Christian, Jordyn and Kaitlyn Bryant and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests for a visitation 15, 2014 at Ellis from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. A funeral service for Jack will be held 16, 2014 at Ellis Chapel at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Jan Reed officiating. The burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family sincerely thanks the pallbearers Danny Hobson, James Davis, Greg Bryant, Jessie Hodgkiss, Bobby Scott, Greg Bergman and Dan Jamierson.
