Obituary: Sandra Kay (Sandy) Noesges lost her 3 year battle with metastatic breast cancer at 2:45 AM, 12-30-2009 at the age of 60. She was born to Elroy Dean and Ruby Evelyn Hinckle on 20, 1949, in Springfield, Illinois. Sandy grew up in the suburbs (Laketown) enjoying all forms of dance, including tap, ballet, toe and aerial acrobat and gymnastics. She loved performing in dance recitals at the local civic center, ice cream socials, and minstrel shows. Visiting her grandparents house on Spring St. was always good fun, as she could run to meet her Dad returning from his duties as a U.S. Mail Carrier. Childhood in the 1950s was simple and care-free for her and all her baby-boomer friends. It was there where she would meet her yet-to-be husband - the boy on the next block. were childhood friends, admirers, and sweethearts. Together they attended local dances and social functions where, boys who could dance well always got her approving eye. She attended Springfield High School, graduating in 1967. Her first job was as receptionist at the newly-built WMAY radio station where meeting and talking with people was easy and fascinating - a character trait that would become her legacy. Interaction with people was thrilling and every opportunity to do so was taken. When it came to people - it was carpe diem! Sandy later worked for a legislative lobbyist representing the Illinois Nurses Association. While in Illinois, she was a member of Woodside United Methodist Church. Sandy married her childhood sweetheart, Mark M. Noesges, on 1, 1972. lived briefly in Springfield and moved to Los Angeles, CA in early 1974. There, both worked for Bechtel Power Corporation, he as an engineer and she as an administrative assistant in procurement. Yes, it was people-paradise for the bubbly Mrs Noesges. Soon she was making numerous new friends, many who survive her today. While bowling had replaced her acrobat and gymnastics, dancing and people interaction increased all the more. When it came to talking, chatting, exchanging ideas, catching up, getting filled-in, verbalizing, or otherwise communicating by speech, Sandy was the standard bearer, the effervescent quintessential social being. She lit up the room with her chatty banter and unending list of interesting news and topics. If Meyers-Briggs had a test for extroversion, then Sandy ranked as a super-E, absolutely off the scale. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were never far behind. All people were worth-her-while and all had her earnest respect. She would plan for everything and everything was planned. Her organizational skills complimented her understanding and need to provide the right resources whether it a project or party. Neighbors and friends always commented that she would do anything for anyone - and did so, many times without being asked. In 1978, while in California, the couple had a son. The family accepted a job transfer to Houston, TX in 1982, settling in Kingwood a Houston suburb where she lived until her death. Kingwood was a great place for her and her family. It met all her expectations for family and community. It was here where she would attend to her familys every needs, especially the full development of her son. She knew just what she wanted for him. Everything. Both, mother and son (with some help from dad) jumped head-first into a life of school, sports, church, and socializing. both loved sports of all kinds. She encouraged participation in everything available. There was soccer, basketball, baseball, football, golf, ice skating and swimming. And yes, she was a soccer mom, heading up a number of teams for a number of years. But it was football and baseball that got her most attention - sometimes as a team mom, and all the time from the sidelines. Community service was an important part of her life, especially helping as a teacher assistant at Strawbridge United Methodist Churchs Mothers-Day-Out program. She and her next-door-neighbor, Terri Erickson, cared for many Kingwood kids for a number of years. Terri, herself, would go on to develop, fight and survive breast cancer. Terris battle was some three years long and she remains today a +10 year survivor and breast cancer advocate. In addition to community service, there was always great community fun. There was everything from social gatherings with he girls to shopping, shopping, and more shopping. There was also some fashion modeling for her favorite local clothing store, Kingwood Talbots. Sandy was always appearance conscious and was said, by her husband, to be a real clothes horse. A recent comment was heard that when Sandy arrived in heaven she exclaimed, What?! We only wear white? being diagnosed in 2007, she fought valiantly while enduring long stretches of chemotherapy and hair loss, suffering a breast mastectomy and axilla pack removal, braving thirty extended series of follow-on radiation, staph infection and emergency removal of her breast expander, a year of hormone therapy, a spread of cancer to her liver, bone, bone marrow and lungs, a second series of chemotherapy, more radiation, a partial hip replacement, a second staph infection and infusion port replacement, two months of physical therapy, and another month of testing in preparation for chemotherapy Clinical Trials. All of these treatments, operations or procedures involved hundreds of blood draws and needle sticks, 6 CT Scans (head & neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis), 2 MRIs (including a blown blood vessel and hemorrhage of her only good arm), numerous bone scans, EKGs, and urine tests. Her fight ended on 30, 2009. Sandy is survived by her husband, Mark Noesges of Kingwood, TX, a son Scott (Karen) Noesges of Murphy, TX, cousins Carol (Dick) Plohr & Family of Milan, IL. and Pam Hinckle of New Berlin, IL., Sisters-in-Law Pam (Ken) Murphy & Family of Spfld, IL., and Marsha (Andy) Gordon & Family of Spfld, IL, best friend Linda (Jim) Stoppelwerth of Riverton, IL., numerous nieces and nephews and friends in CA, TX, and IL. arrangements are continued... |
