Obituary: Marvin Joyce (Jack) Nitzinger of Sandy Harbor, Marble Falls, Texas, died on 20, 2015, at the age of 86. He was born in Arlington, Texas on 13, 1929 to John Henry Nitzinger and Nora Huffman Nitzinger. He married Bobbie Jean McCray in 1954 in Belton and had two children, Diane and Michael. Betty Jean passed away in 1976. In 1979, he married Norma Jean Hecht Smithey Nitzinger. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Raymond, sister Bobbie Jean Nitzinger, son Michael Nitzinger, and wife Norma Jean Hecht Smithey Nitzinger. He served in the infantry in the Korean War, and then worked as a diesel mechanic for over forty years. He performed many jobs and was a true Jack of all trades. He was able to fix any engine or mechanical problem and generously repaired neighbors lawn mowers and golf carts. In Sandy Harbor, Jack was officially recognized for volunteering his time as "General Fixer and "Machine Man". Jack was a member of the VFW Post 10376 in Marble Falls, Texas. He and Norma served at St. Dominics Church in Houston, and St. Paul the Apostle Church in Horseshoe Bay. also volunteered at SunBelt Regional Hospital in Channelview, Texas. Jack and Norma moved to Sandy Harbor in 1997 and were members of the Sandy Harbor Volunteer Fire Department and the Property Owners Association. Jack doted on his wife, Norma, and gave her many happy years. He was patient and generous with his many children and grandchildren. He loved with a quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by his children Diane (and Walter) Daniel of Williston, South Carolina, James Smithey (and Robyn Pritchett) of Marble Falls, Jennifer (and Joel) Monroe of Grapeland, Jessica (and Larry) Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska, Judi (and Bobby) Wallace, of League City, John K. (and Shelli) Smithey of Round Rock, and Cyndi (and Jimmy) Brackeen of Cement, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dallas Smith and great granddaughter Charlotte; Levi (and Bonnie) Smithey and great grandson Witten; Josh (and Ashley) Nitzinger and great grandsons Hayden and Grayson; Kyle (and Vickie) Monroe and great grandchildren Danielle and Matthew; Travis Monroe and great grandsons Riley and Colton; Megan (and Nathan) Grigsby; Bennett Anderson; Bethany Anderson; Sara Wallace; Caitlyn Wallace; Taylor Smithey and great grandson Brooks; John Paul Smithey; Hunter Stutts; Madison Goldstein; and Cash Smithey. Obituary: Eugene L. Gene Nitschmann entered eternal rest on 4, 2014 at the age of 87. He was born in Oakland, Texas, a small town just outside Weimar, Texas on 16, 1927. He had a passion for learning and when the Dallas Morning News ran a state wide quiz on the State of Texas, his teacher urged him to enter. He did and won a trip around Texas along with several other children. Imagine the thrill of this young country boy in the 1930's! About 1942 he and his parents moved to San Antonio and he graduated from Edgewood High School. He became interested in the electric field and when the City Water Board added this department to their organization, he was among the first employees and continued to work there for 39 1/2 years, retiring in 1990. He loved western music and one of his favorites was Four Walls by Jim Reeves. He is preceded in death by parents, John Nitschmann and a Marek Kingston. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Edna Nitschmann. Visitation will be held on , . 7, 2014 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Sunset , 1701 Austin Highway. The funeral service will be held on , 8, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Obituary: Richard Elwood Nitschke, M.D., died peacefully on 26, 2011 at the age of 97 years. He was a devoted and loving husband to Lella Len Mewhinney Nitschke for 68 years. He was a proud family man, dedicated to his three children, Sue McClane, Joan Nitschke, Richard Nitschke Jr. and their families. Dr. Nitschke was born 5, 1913 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Isabel Stokes Nitschke and Dr. William H. Nitschke, a practicing dentist. He was raised in Brazil until the age of six when the family re-located to Philadelphia and later to Utica, NewYork. His lifelong love of nature was fostered by family summer gatherings spent hiking and canoeing in upper New York State at Old Forge in the Adirondacks and at Lake Placid. He entered an accelerated undergraduate program at Duke University in 1931 and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He was the number one half miler on the cross country track team that won the Southern Conference Championship. He remained an avid fan of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team throughout his life. graduating from Duke Medical School in 1937, Dr. Nitschke moved to New York City for his internship at Columbia Presbyterian and residency at Roosevelt Hospital. His specialty was internal medicine but he also trained at the Neurological Institute of New York. While still in New York, he enlisted in the Manhattan Division of the 101st horse calvary. Upon the onset of World War II, he was assigned to the School of Aviation Medicine at Randolph Field, San Antonio, Texas. During this time he met and married the love of his life, Len Mewhinney of Holland, Texas, who was working as a secretary for the FBI. He served as Flight Surgeon with the Army Air Corps, with the 30th Bomb Group of the 5th Fighter Wing and was stationed at Ballinger, Texas, Lubbock, Texas and Oahu, Hawaii. Dr. Nitschke was a dedicated physician of Internal Medicine, serving his patients in the San Antonio community from 1946 until his retirement in 1985. He was on the staff of the Robert B. Green Hospital where he was responsible for evaluating every patient for poliomyelitis in order to determine hospital admission. the discovery of the Salk polio vaccine, he left the Robert B. Green but remained an emeritus member of their staff. Dr. Nitschke began a long association with the Santa Rosa Hospital, initially doing charity work and progressively becoming more involved, serving as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Chief of Staff in 1952 and 1953. He was the first physician appointed to the Board of Directors of the Santa Rosa Hospital and served in this capacity for six years. When he opened his private practice in Alamo Heights, he continued to serve as physician to the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word for many years. Dick Nitschke treated all patients with skill and compassion. He was regarded as a doctorÂs doctor and was held in high esteem as a physician and humanitarian. His professional associations included memberships in the Bexar Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, Texas Club of Internists, Texas Society of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American of Physicians. He was a lifelong Episcopalian and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the San Antonio Country Club and The Argyle. Dr. Nitschke was a loyal and proud Texan who studied the local flora and fauna of the Texas Hill Country. He particularly enjoyed raising Quarter Horses on his beloved Remuda Ranch in Kendall . He was a naturalist in the school of Aldo Leopold and gave each of his children their own copy of ÂThe Sand AlmanacÂ. His bird book was always nearby but he had a special appreciation for the grace and strength of raptors. He was a member and supporter of Last Chance Forever, a raptor rehabilitator, as well as the South Texas Archaeology Association. He leaves a legacy of a love of nature and a sense of adventure to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dr. Nitschke was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William and Isabel Nitschke, brother William Nitschke Jr., sisters Eleanor Adams and Isabel Baker. He is survived by his wife, Len Nitschke, daughter Sue McClane and husband Bob, daughter Joan Nitschke, son Richard Nitschke Jr., grandchildren Len McClane Brown and husband Boyce of Waco, TX, Norris Robert McClane and wife Nicole of San Antonio, TX, James Patch Nitschke and Alexander Blake ÂSandy Nitschke of Boerne, TX. His great grandchildren and future naturalists are Lella Sue ÂSusie Brown, Annah Stanton Brown and Lucia Sheldon McClane. He is also survived by half sister Olive Sherman of Colorado, half brother, James Nitschke of Florida and many nieces and nephews throughout the country, including his nephew, Richard Mewhinney and wife Sandy of Holland, TX. Obituary: Mary S. Nitschke, 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away 8, 2017. She was born in Houston, Texas on 1, 1927 to Anthony and Frances Serio. She was married to Harold Nitschke for 48 years. Mary spent her days as a homemaker, taking care of her family was very important to her. She adored animals, especially cats. She took in any and all strays that crossed her path. She would make sure they had a warm place to sleep, a good meal and lots of love. She was proud of being a Texan and of Italian decent. Mary was of tiny stature, but had a huge personality. She was much loved and will be missed. She is preceded in death by sons, Jack Bobbitt and Mike Ryan; grandson, Andrew Miesch, she outlived all of her siblings. She was the last of her immediate family. Obituary: Mary Ann Kucera Nitsch, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas, on 29, 2016. Mary Ann was born in San Antonio, Texas, the fourth child of Vaclav Kucera and Mary Yurek Kucera. At an early age, her family moved to Houston and Mary Ann grew up in the Heights and graduated from Milby High School, Class of 1940. Mary Ann worked at The Brown Ship Yard during the war. She met a sailor named Herman Nitsch, from North Dakota, and they fell in love and married in 1944. Mary Ann enjoyed a career as a devoted homemaker and mother. She and Herman first bought a new home in Southeast Houston and joined St. Peter the Apostle Church, where Mary Ann was very active in the Parish and School ministries. In 1964 the family moved to Southwest Houston area and became parishioners of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. finished raising their family and enjoyed a long retirement and the company of the growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Because most all her children and grandchildren lived close by (within a mile) her home was a very frequent biking stop for the great grandchildren. There was always ice cream and soda waiting for them at Mimis pit stop. Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, her three older brothers and their wives: Clem Kucera (Katy), Wesley Kucera (Helen), John Kucera (Opal). She is survived by her children, Craig (Pat), David (Diana), Mary Ann Patterson, and Bob (Brenda), 7 Grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sonja), Andrea, Amanda (George), Marguerite, Cassandra (Zachary), David, Jr. (Desi), and Ryan. And 10 Great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister in law and many nephews and nieces in North Dakota and Minnesota The family would like to thank Mimis very special caretaker, Rosie Roblato, who became her friend and companion and made the last 6 months enjoyable. Also, her granddaughter Maggie who made sure all the medications were taken on time, there was always a nice hot meal (with dessert) and was there to tuck her in and kiss her goodnight. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM, , 1, 2016 at Earthman Bellaire . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, , 2, 2016 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Rd. The Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale |

Obituary: Herman Henry Nitsch passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on , 26, 2010. He was born in Mobridge, South Dakota, on 8, 1917, the youngest of four boys born to Austrian immigrants Anton and Marie Brauner Nitsch. Herman grew up in Minot, North Dakota and graduated from St. Leos Catholic High School. He spent his working career in sporting goods sales with Montgomery Ward in Houston from which he retired after 40 years of service in 1978. his retirement, he joined his sons in their business for 10 years. Pop, as his family affectionately called him, was a talented athlete in his youth. He played golf, hockey, and basketball, taking his team to state. He earned a scholarship to Notre Dame, which he had to turn down in order to help his family during the Great Depression. Pop was also a talented golfer, having played the professional circuit in the 1940s. One of his proudest moments was his induction into the North Dakota Golf Hall of Fame in 1983. Pop answered the call to duty for his country during World War II, earning the rank of Chief serving in the Navy on the USS Suffolk in the Pacific. While on shore leave in Houston, Herman met Mary Ann Kucera and soon married her. spent 66 years together. All who knew him admired his wry and witty sense of humor that was always sure to make you laugh and think at the same time. He loved the outdoors, particularly hunting, crabbing and fishing, gardening and tracking the weather. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 227 and member of the Knights of Columbus. Pop was famous for his cucumber salad,which was a recipe he had learned from his mother, and his wonderful barbequed chicken. Pop taught his family devotion to God and family which showed through his life. His faith in God had a profound influence on his family and friends. He could be found at daily visitation at Corpus Christi Church until he was confined at home. As a devout Catholic his special devotion to St. Jude provided inspiration to all around him. Prayers to St. Jude in thankfulness of the full and wonderful life that Herman lived and for the time we had with him would be greatly appreciated by the family. Pop taught his family the importance of staying close together and relying on each other. He left behind a family that will miss him dearly but have many sweet memories to cherish. Those who survive him are his devoted wife, Mary Ann Nitsch, children, Craig Nitsch and wife Patricia, David Nitsch and wife Diana, Mary Ann Patterson, and Robert Nitsch and wife Brenda, all of Houston. Pop is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with a sixth due in . Herman is also survived by his older brothers Anton Nitsch of Minot, North Dakota and Carl Nitsch and his wife Loretta of Minnesota., and numerous nephews and nieces. Herman joins in death his brother Billy, his parents and many friends who went before him. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM, , 28, 2010, at Earthman Bellaire , 6700 Ferris, Bellaire.
