Obituary: Coena Nichols, 92, passed away peacefully 24, 2014, at Young at Heart Assisted Living facility in Wolfforth. She was born Coena Hutchins to John and Ora Hutchins in Alexandria, Louisiana, 1, 1921. She had been a resident of Lubbock since 1933 and attended Lubbock High School. In the 1980s she retired from sales at S&Q Clothiers and Jay Rogers Clothing. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and a member of the Church of the Harvest. Coena exhibited a great love for people of all denominations, for the lost, and for anyone in need. She was an encourager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Nichols; brothers, Ralph and Nathaniel Hutchins; and sister LaVina Doggett. She is survived by her son David Smither, daughter in-love Anita Smither; grandson Jonathan Smither and wife Sarah; great grandchildren Caleb and Claire Smither; and nephew Travis Doggett. We count the caring staff of Young at Heat as Coenas extended family. A memorial service will be held in Resthavens Abbey Chapel on 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Carroll Lockett and Pat Stanton will officiate. In lieu of flowers and to honor her memory, please drop a donation in the Red Kettle during the Christmas season. Obituary: Mr. Nichols was born 1, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and went to be with his savior on 23, 2015. He grew up in Tulsa and was an Eagle Scout. He attended Tulsa Central High School, graduating in 1956. Following High School, he attended the University of Tulsa and earned his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics in 1961. While at the University, he became a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He taught Mathematics in Tulsa, Oklahoma for one year, and then joined Shell Oil of Houston, Texas where he worked for 35 years. He retired in 1997. retiring, he and his beloved wife, Carolyn, split their time between their Houston home and their ranch near ville, Texas, until they sold the ranch in 2006. Clay authored a book, The Sermon on the Mount: A Concise Study for the Serious Student. He was a founding member of Southwest Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Houston, Texas where he served for many years as an active Elder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iva and Otto Nichols. He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn; children, Karen Wood of Silverado, CA. Kristen Melton of Broken Arrow, OK. Rebekah Wootan and husband Jeff of Houston, TX. And Melissa Smith and husband Cliff of Katy, TX. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy McCann of Dallas TX. There will be a visitation on 27, 2015 from five Oclock in the evening until Eight Oclock at Forest Park Westheimer . services will commence the following morning in the Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer beginning at 10:am. With Reverend David Wakeland of Southwest Presbyterian Church (PCA) officiating. Committal will follow at Forest Park Westheimer cemetery. |

Obituary: Charles Nichols was born in Shelbyville, Missouri on 3, 1917 and after a long and active life died May 30, 2011. He moved to Princeton (MO) and graduated from high school in 1937. In his youth, Charlie loved to play various musical instruments, especially the trumpet. He sang with the popular Greenhill Quartet. In 1938, he joined his brother Dick in Houston and for the next four years worked at Mrs. Bairds Bakery. Charlie learned to weld, which inspired him to open and operate the C. E. Nichols Welding Service for a number of years. He was devoted to his late son, Ricky who had cerebral palsy. Rickys love of bowling inspired Charlie to invent a metal device that allowed Ricky and friends to bowl despite their physical limitations. This same inventive talent which helped him to visualize and shape stainless steel spurred him into other artistic pursuits in several visual media, all self taught Charlie painted for decades delighting Family and friends with beautiful pictures. He volunteered for years at MAM. During this time he painted a mural at First Christian Church in Spring Branch. the death of his son and his first wife, Ruby, through his love of square dancing he met Dora Mae and the two fell in love. shared more than twenty years of happiness together. Charlie and Dora entertained with their square dancing group, traveled and welcomed their extended family for many happy get-togethers. Charlie is survived by wife, Dora Scott-Nichols: children William H. Scott and wife Joan, Carl W. Scott and wife Livia, Dorothea Fundling and husband Craig, and Stefanie Scott and fiancé Rick Chumly; grandchildren: Dr. Kelly Scott Birt and husband Bradley, Amanda Scott, Timothy Sutton and wife Susan, David Scott, Sarah Scott, Scott Fundling and Abigail Fundling. He is survived by a sister, Betty Thogmmartin and nieces and nephews in Missouri. services will be , 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Forest Park , 6200 Lawndale, Houston.
