Obituary: Geneva Crain Newsom Services for Geneva Crain Newsom, 82, of Lufkin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. , 16, 2014 at First Christian Church, with Reverend Stephen Lantis officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mrs. Newsom was born 25, 1931 in the Bald Hill Community. She was the daughter of Ella (Mosley) and Walter Crain. Following her mothers death, Emma (Vansau) Crain was the mother who raised her. She passed away , 12, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Newsom was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of First Christian Church. While her children were growing up, she was involved as a School teacher and youth sponsor. She was also very active in the Christian Womens Fellowship for over 50 years and served on the CWF Executive Board. In her later years, she continued to be involved with the youth as a Van Angel for Godly Play. She was a secretary for the Paper Mill and retired after many years. She enjoyed volunteering at Woodland Heights Medical s Gift Shop. She was deeply loved by all of her family and friends and she loved them as well. Survivors include her husband, Harold Sonny Newsom of Lufkin; daughter, Debbie Brown of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Brian Hughey of Kingwood and Susan and Geff Brown of Florida; grandchildren, Laura and Austin Hughey, Amanda and Caitlyn Brown, Austin Brown, and Allison Fischer and husband Austin; sister, Mellie Boone of Bakersfield, California; brother, Grady Crain of Dover, Arkansas; and a number of nieces, nephews, numerous family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newsom was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Allen Brown; brothers, Frank, Leon, Calvin, Alvin and Ernest Crain; and sister, Viola Gilcrease. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Newsoms memory may be made to First Christian Church, 1300 S. First Street, Lufkin, TX 75901; Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904; or the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, TX 75901. Pallbearers will be Bill Poplin, Dennis Poplin, Alvis Crain, Larry Crain, Austin Brown, Charles Gilcrease, and Ben Newsom. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Rowe, Ray Jayroe, Ray Carswell, John Porter, Bob Brown, and Jack Watson.
