Obituary: Newman, Peter Eugene 23, 1928- 25, 2015 Richardson, TX and formerly of Bryan, TX Pete Newman, lover of porch sitting, cold beer, Aggie football, and a good story, passed away peacefully in Richardson, TX on 25, 2015 at age 86. Pete was the slightly spoiled, youngest child of Louie M. and Lola Mae (Dickson) Newman of Moorevlle, TX. Pete loved to share stories of growing up on a farm with older brothers, Louis Newman II (deceased), and Charles James Jim Newman (deceased), as well as sister Henrietta Penny Newman Coleman (deceased). He loved riding horses, avoiding chores, and entertaining friends and family with tall tales. Pete graduated from Chilton High School in 1945 and joined the Merchant Marines at age 17. Upon retuning to Texas, and after attending several universities (Baylor and Texas A&M), Pete enrolled and graduated from North Texas State (later known as University of North Texas) where he received his degree in Elementary Education. He then joined the United States Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA, where he met his future wife, Adrienne Brahaney, a WAVE (US Naval Reserve Womens Reserve), who recalled first setting eyes on Pete napping under a tree, but was smitten none-the-less. Pete and Adrienne married in 1955 and moved to Ft. Worth, TX where Pete began teaching. Their first son, David, was born the following year. The family moved to Bryan, TX in 1957 where daughter Susan was born, followed by son Christopher in 1962. In 1958 Pete began a 12-year teaching career at Crocket Elementary in Bryan. Pete loved teaching, but he especially loved teaching social studies to sixth graders, where he was able to put his story telling skills to good use. He became a beloved teacher and many a former student has mentioned Mr. Newmans creative methods of teaching, which may have included, but were in no way limited to, historic reenactments, silly songs and poems, and interpretive dancing. Pete enjoyed coaching elementary league little league and football and was recognized for organizing and officiating an after school basketball program at Crockett. In 1967 Pete began working part time for Davis Airlines, kicking of his second career and other great love, airlines. Petes airline career continued well after retiring from teaching in 1970. He eventually went on to work for three more airlines, Rio, Royale, and ASA Airlines. In all, Pete worked for the airlines at Easterwood Airport for 28 years and became the unofficial face of Easterwood. As airline passengers would come and go, Pete would be there to change a flight, handle a bag, offer a cup of coffee, or share a story. Because of Petes love of the Texas Aggies and due to his assistance to the Aggies when the team traveled through Easterwood Airport, R. C Slocum, former head coach for Texas A&M presented him with an official signed football from the 1995 Texas Aggie Football team upon Petes retirement. In addition to his parents and siblings, Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years. He is survived by son, David Newman and wife Susan of Langehorn, PA; daughter Susan Newman Penson and husband Steven of Dallas, TX; and son Christopher Newman of Dallas, TX along with Petes four grandchildren; Dallas Roberson, Dan Newman, Elizabeth Newman Lerie, and Caitlin Penson. Pete Newman was a man with a dry wit, a wry smile, a lover of damn good food, anole lizards (especially the beer drinking kind), shuffleboard, and a fascination with the back-story of every person he ever met. He lived his life on his own terms. He was a great husband; he was loved by his children and adored by his grandchildren. Pete Newman was a damn good man. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Altus Hospice for the tender loving care they gave to our father. A memorial service has yet to be determined. Donations may be made to: Take Me Pet Rescue, 561 W. Campbell Rd., Suite 303, Richardson, TX 75080 or takemehomepetrescue.com |

Obituary: On 26, 2015, Peggy Sears Newman made it to Heaven just in time to host the morning show. Radio personality, performer, wife, mom, and GG, Peggy was a star both in public and at home. A native of Dallas, Peggy grew up with her sisters, Doyle Ann and Laura, singing and mastering every instrument she could find. CBS cast seventeen-year-old Peggy to sing and play her guitar in the primetime variety show, The Newcomers. From Hollywood back to Highland Park High School, Peggy loved cheering on the Scots, attending Young Life, and spending time with her high school girlfriends, the self-proclaimed Rejects. Soon crowned Miss Teenage Dallas, she was off to Ole Miss, where you could find her hanging out with friends at the Tri Delta house or shouting Hotty Toddy for the Rebels on the football field. graduation, Peggys father, Dr. A.D. Sears, heard about a radio contest on country westerns KBOX 1480 to find a co-host for the famed Allan Peck-and the Peck and Peggy show was born. For years, the twosome entertained the Metroplex on the morning commute, interviewing country musics legends from Waylon to Pride. Next stop, 103.7 KVIL, where Peggy hit the morning show scene as the News Director alongside Ron Chapman, Suzy Humphreys, and Larry Dixon. For twenty years, the KVIL crew dominated the Dallas airwaves. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Peggy also wowed crowds as a star of the Junior League Ball, a frequent soloist with the Vocal Majority Chorus, and a headliner in the Dallas Gridiron Show, where she roasted then-sitting Governor, Ann Richards. In 2007, Peggy rounded out a long career in radio with an induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. Like a good country song, Peggy met Lynn Newman back at Hyer Elementary, and they reconnected at the Byron Nelson after college. Peggy and Lynn married in 1978, and it wasn long before Abby, Ben, and Drew were on the scene. Peggy was out the door for KVIL at 3:30 a.m. and at the PTA by 10:00 a.m. She was the room mom, first grade play director, 8th grade dance chair, baseball booster, wrestling mom, and Newman of the Year award winner, otherwise known as Super Mom. Of all of her hats, she wore wife and mom most proudly. On Mothers Day of 2009, Peggy suffered a stroke. She fought fiercely through a year of inpatient rehab, learning to walk and talk again. Back in action for five very full years, she was a source of positive inspiration and endless wit. GG was wild about her grandchildren, Lucy and Rex, and rarely a day went by that she didn spoil them with a surprise she scored off of E-Bay. Never bet against the Pegster-not in life, and certainly not on E-Bay. The night before a second, unexpected stroke, Peggy hosted a pool party at home with the grandkids. The next morning, she went straight to Heaven, where shes back on air, delivering the Good News. Thank you to the incredible community of family and friends that have supported and encouraged Peggy and the Newmans. A special thank you to Irma, Reba, and Jeanette, who acted as Peggys caregivers for the past 5 years. Peggy is survived by her husband, Lynn; children, Abby and Peter Ruth, Ben Newman, and Drew and Ashley Newman; sisters, Doyle Ann Sears and Laura and Joe Milburn; grandchildren, Lucy and Rex Ruth; and nieces Mary Brynn and Joan Milburn. A celebration of Peggys life will be held at Park Cities Pres-byterian Church, on , 29th, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Ron Williams officiating, with reception to follow. Please make gifts to Park Cities Presbyterian Church or Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation. |
