Obituary: John K. Neustadter, 90, of Richardson, Texas, passed away at home on 11th while under hospice care, with his daughter Laurie by his side. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Bob, grandsons Andrew and Christopher, daughter-in-law Diane, and siblings Susie and Rudy. His is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Esther, son John Thomas, brothers Gerhard and Harry, and parents Gerhard and Susanna. John was born on 14, 1925 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a Mennonite community and was fluent in both English and German. In 1949 John met his future wife Esther, a Canadian, while visiting relatives in Kitchener, Ontario. went ice skating for their first date and wrote to each other after John returned to Lancaster. John returned to Kitchener for Esthers sister Ellas wedding and proposed marriage to Esther at Ellas wedding. John and Esther were married on 14th, 1950 in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Kitchener. they were married, John and Esther moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where they purchased a farm. In 1952, they sold their farm and moved to Jamestown, New York, where John bred cows for Curtiss Breeding Services. In 1961, they moved to Vernon, New York, when John continued to work in the artificial breeding industry and then later for Pohls Feedway, where he worked until he retired. In , 2008, John and Esther moved to Dallas, Texas, in order to be closer to their children. John loved cattle and the dairy industry. When his young daughter would complain about the smell of a dairy farm, John would respond that nothing smelled as sweet to him as the smell of a dairy farm. Later, when margarine became a health fad and his daughter suggested switching from butter to margarine, John told her she might as well just steal money out of the pocket of the dairy farmer. John looked forward to the New York State Fair every summer, where he would spend his time in the cattle barns. Because John traveled from farm to farm breeding cows, he knew every nook and cranny of the country side. On hot summer days, Johns kids could count on him to take them to some hidden creek or watering hole he had discovered on his travels. John had a pilots license and flew small planes as a hobby. On summer days he would drive his kids out to a local airport and take them up in a small rented airplane for a joy ride. It was always a treat for his kids when he flew them over their house. John loved German singing. While in Vernon was a member of the Utica Maennerchor and after he moved to Dallas he was active in the Dallas Frohsinn Singing Society. He always looked forward to traveling to and participating in regional Saengerfests (German singing festivals). John also loved genealogy, geography, and history. He loved reading about these subjects and could recall an impressive range of geographical and historical facts, even in his late 80s. John was a devoted husband and father. He was always there for his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. John selflessly and lovingly cared for his wife Esther when she was in failing health during the last years of her life. John grew up in the Mennonite faith. In Vernon, he attended the Vernon Baptist church and later became a member of the Oneida United Methodist church. In Dallas, he was a member of the Peace Mennonite Church. A memorial service is scheduled for 18th at 10am at Sparkman Richardson , 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson, Texas 75081 972-238-7855. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Johns life.
