Obituary: Freda was born at Cleburne, Texas and lived at Bono until 1937 when her family moved to Carroll, Texas. She attended Grapevine HS until she married Pvt. Edward Luther Neal Dec. 8, 1944. She waited for her husband's return from WWII in Fort Worth, Texas. She lived in Fort Worth until retirement in 1985. She retired with her husband to the Horseshoe Bend community in South Parker . She moved into Brookdale Assisted Senior Living in Richland Hills in 2014 and Passed at Heartland Senior Living and Rehab . Freda was Baptised as a child and member of the Lonesome Dove Baptist Church in Carroll. She enjoyed softball and track at Grapevine High School. Her girlfriend, Merril Dean Tate, introduced Freda and their friend Norma to Merril's two young uncles, Edward Neal, who married Freda and his brother, Lawerence Neal, who married Norma. The three girls remained close friends for a lifetime. Freda had two sons, Larry and Tony. She was active in the PTA at D. Mc. Rae elementary school, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and sold Avon Cosmetics. She worked for Leonard Bros. Dept. Store as a salesclerk, Supervisor, Manager and Buyer until 1976. She worked for Monnigs Dept. Store as a Buyer of Housewares, Gifts and China until she retired in 1985. She enjoyed Fishing, traveling and gardening during her retirement. She was active in the HSB Association and Fire Auxillary. She was widowed in Jan. 1999 and continued to live at HSB until 2014. Eric was born Nov. 5, 1990, in Austin and had lived in the Fort Worth/Mansfield area since 1997. Eric was a professional and international musician and an accomplished singer/songwriter. Obituary: Elizabeth Betty Anne Neal, age 91, born 5, 1919, at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio to the late A.J. and Anna Schuehle Krueger, passed away , 9, 2010 of natural causes. She graduated from Jefferson High School, entering as a freshman the year it opened. Betty had a friend, Catherine Cade, who had a car and gave her rides to school on occasion but most of the time, before the era of school buses; she went to school on the city bus. The fare was a nickel. She attended Incarnate Word and UT Austin, majoring in Business Administration but did not earn a degree because of not taking one feared and required course Business Correspondence. The first summer after college she worked as an assistant secretary to Congressman Maury Maverick during his failed campaign for re-election at his offices in the ew post office building. Her first job was at CCC Civilian Conservation Corps Headquarters on Jones Avenue in the building which now houses the San Antonio Museum of Art. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Social Security Board. Other civil service appointments followed: the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, McAllen, Texas; San Antonio Quartermaster Depot, Ft. Sam Houston; California Quartermaster Depot, Oakland; 4th Army HQ., Presidio of San Francisco. She entered the private sector and retired from Union Carbide Corporation after almost 25 years in South San Francisco and the Los Angeles area. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Henry C. Jack Neal in 1982; and their only child, daughter Christina Katherine Kathy Lindsay, in 2008; as well as her only sibling, Christine Krueger Hopwood, who was a teacher in Alamo Heights for many years. She is survived by granddaughter Sarah Ness ORourke and her husband John C. Jack ORourke; and great grandson Jacob Christian Sanders. Betty has held several positions in different organizations including: Honorary Life member of the California Congress of Parents and Teachers, having served as a PTA president and president of the Millbrae CA Elementary School District Board; life member and past president of the San Antonio Garden ; and charter member of Assistance League® of San Antonio, a chapter of National Assistance League®, a non-profit charitable organization consisting of 122 chapters and guilds with about 26, 000 members nationwide. During her time with Assistance League® of San Antonio she served several years on their Board of Directors in different positions and was recipient of their highest national award, The Ada Edwards Laughlin Award. Her main goal for the organization was to see their mortgage burned. She also was a member of the San Antonio Conservation Society, the McNay Museum and the San Antonio Museum of Art. The friendships she developed with members of Assistance League were treasured by her and she liked to claim Donna Campbell, Diane Gribble, Helen Jones, Dawne Wright and Norma Barloco as surrogate daughters. She tried to live according to childhood advice received from her father. Whenever things weren going well for her he would envelop her in a great big hug and say Keep your chin up. Obituary: Elizabeth Fromme Neal, age 87, of San Antonio, died , 28, 2005. Mrs. Neal was born 16, 1917 in Fort Stockton, TX and grew up in Elgin, TX. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1935. She attended San Angelo Junior before transferring to the University of Texas where she was on the tennis team. While attending the university, she met James Kelly Neal of Greenville, TX who was attending Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. were married in of 1939. As a dedicated ministerÂs wife, she selflessly supported her husband in his Texas pastorates in Kilgore, San Marcos, Gonzales, Houston and San Antonio. She participated in and led many of the Women-of-the-Church activities. She welcomed newcomers as well as friends into the warmth of her home with outstanding meals. A well-read, articulate, lifetime learner, she pursued many and varied interests, some of which included history and travel in the West, sewing, cooking and decorating. Above all, she was extremely devoted to her family. In 1970, she received the Aggie Mother of the Year Award. She was affectionately known as ÂMa Neal because she often opened her home and kitchen to any Aggies passing through San Antonio. She lovingly touched many lives including those in her final few years at Morningside Ministries, Chandler Estate. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kelly and their son, Harold Fromme Neal; a sister, Helen Clinton; and brothers, Edward Fromme; Ben Fromme; Harold Fromme; and Charles Fromme. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Helen Craft and husband, Dr. Sidney M. Craft of Houston, TX; son, James Kelly Neal, Jr. and wife, Lisa; grandson, Cory M. Neal and wife, Misti; granddaughter, Avery Neal; great-grandson, Collin M. Neal; and grandchildren, Katherine and Stephen Cisneros; Rene Craft Sutton and husband, Dan; Michelle Craft Paneagua and husband, David; great-grandchildren, Olivia Paneagua and Jackson Sutton. |
