Obituary: J. W. (John William) Nawara, Jr., 83, of Houston, Texas was born 19, 1931 in Needville, TX. He passed peacefully at his home in Houston with his wife close at hand on , 3, 2014. J. W. started his education at Seiler School in Needville and went on to graduate in the first graduating class of Needville High School in 1949. He first attended Wharton Jr. , then transferred to University of Houston and graduated with a BA in accounting in 1953. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served 2 years in the Finance Corps. He received an Honorable Discharge from active duty as Specialist Third Class in 1955. leaving the army, J.W. began working for Dresser-Magcobar and worked there 31 years until his retirement in 1986. J.W. enjoyed life as a bachelor until , 1969 when he met the love of his life, Bonnae, while on a blind date. He knew immediately that she was the woman he was going to marry and married her on 17, 1970. had three children and settled in Houston. J.W. loved spending time with his family and his church. He was active with his son in Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed various activities with his daughters. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play and having them sit on his lap. He loved to play dominos at family gatherings and would celebrate every win. J.W. was an avid bowler and was captain of the Dresser-Magcobar team for many years. During his younger years, he enjoyed calling and participating in square dancing. J.W. enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, playing guitar, helping others, carpentry, and various DIY projects. Later, he enjoyed volunteering at Twice Blessed Resale Store and Southwest Area Ministry Food Pantry in southwest Houston. J.W. had a good heart and a giving spirit. He served in many capacities over the years at Immanuel UCC in Needville and Gethsemane (Grace) UCC in Houston. He especially enjoyed country music and strumming along to his favorite songs with his guitars. He spent time with his family and gave willingly to help at his church and other charities. J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, John & Frances Nawara, his brother, Alton Roy Nawara, and a host of other family members. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnae, daughter; Kathryn James and husband, Wardo of Katy; son, Thomas Nawara and wife, Jenny of Georgetown; daughter, Eva Thomas and husband, Dustin of Baytown; grandsons London & Dylan James; granddaughter, Ashlin Nawara; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Vantage Hospice of Katy or Grace United Church of Christ in Houston. To honor J.W.s love of helping others, the family will be collecting non-perishable food items at the visitation & service. These items will be donated to a local food pantry. The family would like to thank Vantage Hospice of Katy for their compassionate, loving and faithful care in J.W.s last days. Your comfort and gentleness made an extremely difficult time the absolute best it could be under the circumstances. Although we are saddened at our own loss, we know J.W. is now pain free and is fishing and strumming his guitar in his eternal home. Obituary: On 1, 2013, Our Heavenly Father called from labor to reward, His faithful servant, SCPO Willie Ray Walker, U.S. Navy (Ret.). Willie was born in Elizabeth, Louisiana on 28, 1937. He was the 7th of 8 children born to Sidney and Marvin Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters and one son, Solomon Naborne. Willie graduated from Washington High School and attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for over 22 years before retiring from active duty on 31, 1981 as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He continued his service in the Fleet Reserves for 6 additional years. He received numerous declarations, medals, badges, citations, campaign awards and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam with Bronze Star) during his time of service. Upon his retirement and moving to San Antonio, he was gainfully employed at Holiday Inn Select from , 1981 to , 2013 when his health began to fail. He was respected by all and known as Mr. Will. While stationed in San Diego, he met the love of his life, Annie McClain Naborne. were married May 10, 1970 and remained inseparable for 43 years. Their vow of until death do us part was taken seriously and honored joyfully. His marriage to Annie brought two young boys into his life that he adored and raised as his own. Willie was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. In 1994, he joined Livingway Church where he served faithfully and enthusiastically in several ministries until his health failed earlier this year. Willie truly loved Bishop Fender, Pastor Becky and the Livingway family. He tithed on any money that came into his hands; even monetary gifts. Willie was a strong family man, good neighbor and loyal friend to many. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving and faithful wife, Annie; son, Frank (Tina) Naborne, Jr.; sister, Doris (Charles) Corbin; grandsons, Frank Naborne III and Elijah Naborne; granddaughters, Sasha and Tia Naborne; great-grandson, Jaiden Benson; sisters-in-law, Maggie McClain, Cynthia (Gene) Brooks and Olivia McClain; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. Obituary: Captain Enrique Valentin, Jr., D.C., U.S. Navy, retired, passed away 18, 2009 at the age of 94 in San Antonio, TX. He was born Sept. 19, 1914 in Brownsville, Texas to Enrique F. Valentin and Maria Esperanza Valentin. His father, Mr. Enrique F. Valentin, was the founder of the Buena Vista Burial Park and Valentins Dept. Store in Brownsville, Texas. A World War II and Korean War Veteran, Dr. Valentin spent 26 years in the Navy. Among his many military decorations are the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Korean War Service Medal. Dr. Valentin received his dental degree from the University of Texas Dental School in Houston, Texas in 1945. Also, other degrees included those from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and the U.S. Naval Dental School in Bethesda, MD. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1968, Dr. Valentin was the first Director of the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene Program at Del Mar in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dr. Valentin was a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association and the San Antonio District Dental Society. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Masonic Lodge #598 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Valentin was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marie Oberwetter Valentin. Surviving him are two sons, Mark Henry and wife Sharon Toonen Valentin of Arlington, Texas and Wayne Stuart and wife Sherlyn Vognsen Valentin of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Nicholas, Mark Andrew and Matthew and his wife Misty; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Harrison, Scottie and Taylor. |
