Obituary: In Memory of Maurice Dean Neptune May 4, 1918- 26, 2014, Maurice Dean Neptune passed away peacefully at his home in St. Martins in the Pines, in Irondale, Alabama. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana to Maurice and Bonnie Neptune on May 4, 1918. Maurice graduated from Purdue University with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering in 1940 and later acquired the status of Professional Engineer in five states. He was a member of the American Foundry Society for 45 years and served as a past president. In 1940, he married the love of his life, Amber Lenore Wells Neptune, a marriage that lasted until she passed away 66 years later. Maurice is survived by his son, Michael Dean Neptune (and wife, Joan) of Auburn, AL, his daughter, Ann Lenore Neptune of Birmingham, five grandchildren - Hal Neptune, Traci Neptune, Aubrey Jones, Jeni Jones, and Samantha Madden, and 6 great grandchildren. Maurice served in the US Navy during World War II as a gunnery officer on LSTs. Highlights of his career include 40 years at Clow Corporation where he ultimately was the Chief Metallurgist for the entire corporation, and later at Hill and Griffith as Sales Manager. He was most proud of his foundry work, including co-authoring the Cupola Handbook. His expertise did not stop with his retirement, as he continued in the role of consultant metallurgist for USAID in such places as Brazil, the Czech Republic, and China. He also worked with the Waste Reduction and Technology Transfer (WRATT) Foundation as a consultant all over Alabama. He never seemed to tire of practicing his expertise, as he acted as a docent for several years at the Sloss Industrial Museum. Despite his devotion to his occupation there was always time for other activities, including Boy Scout leader and Explorer leader for Troop 397 at Trinity United Methodist Church. As a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 67 years, he served on many committees including the Administrative Board and Lay Involvement. He headed the Mr. Fix-It Group for the Church members and also drove seniors to outlet stores for many years. One of his greatest pleasures was extensive travel with Lenore all over the world. Visitation is on , 1, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 Oxmoor Road, in wood at 1:00 PM, followed by the Service at 2:00. Burial will follow the funeral service at Elmwood , 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Birmingham.
