Obituary: Dad passed away 4th due to a heart attack and complications from having fallen down. He was in hospice care at Phelps Memorial Hospital a few days prior to his passing. Dad developed a form of dementia about a year and a half ago that gradually progressed to where he needed special care. He had been living at the Atria, an assisted living facility in Ossining, New York in the memory care side of the facility. Dad grew up in the Bronx with his two sisters Annie and Connie and his mother and father Catherine and Alfred. While a boy he spent summers in Monticello New York at "Hollywood Cabins", a family run business catering to vacationers spending summers there. At his home base in the Bronx, Dad led an "East Side Kid's" lifestyle full of crazy adventures typical of boys growing up in the Bronx during the 30's and 40's. Back then, Dad belonged to a "social club" called the "Jokers" that had their own football team and played against other clubs in the area. Life long childhood friends and members of the Jokers included Augie, Johnny, Sonny and Sergio, who became our surrogate uncles while we were kids growing up. As a boy dad learned to set pins at a local bowling alley to earn money and his uncle Louie taught him how to drive a truck. Dad graduated from Evander Childs High school and then joined the Army where he was stationed at Fort Dix. While on a blind date he met Lucy Pica, the love of his life. were married 4th, 1956. the birth of their first two children they decided to be adventurous and move to Florida to start a business. While in Florida Dad initially hauled rocket fuel and then bought a potato chip truck and sold potato chips among many other jobs. Things didn't work out so they moved back to New York eventually settling in the beautiful town of Croton-on-Hudson where they raised their family and lived in a comfortable stucco home on Van Wyck St . Dad was foremost a family man, a blue collar hard working man dedicated to helping our mother raise five kids. Family was everything to him. He worked for most of his adult life for the Market Haulage and the Grand Union driving a truck delivering groceries to stores throughout the tri-state area. He worked long hours and was a great provider to his family. Dad loved to drive and especially loved to be towing something. He was one with the world when reading a map, driving an RV, towing a camper or boat, or pulling into a KOA. ?? all the bikes and coolers were unloaded and the picnic table set, it was time to feed five hungry mouths! That was a scene played out time and time again when we were on family vacation. In retirement, Dad and Mom liked to travel and spend winters at their condo in Florida traveled to Alaska, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and also enjoyed traveling "Elder Hostel" style. Dad enjoyed reading books on History. He also had a green thumb and loved to tend to his vegetable garden. Dad is survived by his loving children ,Alfred Negri, Eugene Negri, Jr., Catherine Anesi, Lori Hoye and Marie Rigaud, cherished grandchildren John, Jack and Chris and sister Constance Corcoran "Aunt Connie". He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lucy Negri and sister Antoinette Siddall "Aunt Annie". |
