Obituary: Martha Lou Brown Nation entered eternal life on 20, 2015. Her spirit is carried on by her two daughters, Luan Flowers Nation and Nina Renee Nation, and an extended family of relations and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar Hubbard Nation, Jr., as well as by her beloved brothers, James Clifton Brown and William Lester Brown. Martha was born 28, 1931, in Conehatta, Mississippi, the eldest daughter of James Andrew Kyle Brown and Nina Elma French Brown. She attended East Central Community , then moved to the capital city of Jackson to work for the Mississippi State Tax Commission, where she remained for 34 years until her retirement. moving to Jackson, Martha began attending First Baptist Church, where she met Edgar, whom she wed some years later. In recent years, she also attended Woodland Hills Baptist Church, which became a second church home to her. Her role as a mother was the most important thing to her. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Being with her family was what Martha enjoyed most of all. Her life had many obstacles, and she struggled with a devastating illness. Yet through it all, her love and caring for her family remained her focus; and in so many ways, she was able to show that love to us. This perseverance through adversity is a powerful lesson for us, and I believe it is her legacy. What wonderful lessons she gave us--keep your priorities straight; keep that which is most important in focus; love and care for your family; let them know in all the ways you can show them that you love them; don’t let adversities or setbacks or any of the distractions of the world keep you from this most important aspect of life. The last years were hard for Mother, with the return of her cancer and the other illnesses with which she had to cope. Thankfully, we know that she is at peace now. We have lost many family members and friends over the years, especially in the last few, but we are comforted by the fact that Mother is in heaven sharing her gift of gab and continuing her legacy of telling everyone how to do everything. Watch out, God--there’s a new sheriff in town! She is survived by her daughters, Luan Flowers Nation and Nina Renee Nation; her brother, Bo Brown; and her sisters, Lola Kelly and Jackie Gibbs; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 12 to 2 o’ clock , the 23rd of , at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Boulevard in Jackson. A funeral service will follow at 2 o’clock. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Woodland Hills Baptist Church. |
