Obituary: Scott David Jon Nystrom, age 50 passed away , 21, 2014 at his home under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice after a very courageous, hard 3 ½ year battle with cancer. Scott was born 14, 1964 in Mason, MI the son of Earl D. and Nancy (Wright) Nystrom.

He is preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Scott was a member of the Moose Lodge #406 in Albion. He loved entertaining and cooking for his family and friends and enjoyed working outside. He was quite a perfectionist with everything, especially his home and his lawn.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Nancy, son, Scott David Jon Nystrom II David, daughter, Jessica Cousins, brother, Michael Nystrom and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank close friends, Ruth (Craig) McCullough.

His family will celebrate his life on , 24, 2014 beginning with visitation at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM at J. Kevin Tidd , 811 Finley Dr., Albion with Pastor Walt Nichols Jr. officiating. Burial will take place at King , Devereaux Road, Parma, MI.

Obituary: Joan Catherine Nystrom, 81, of Marquette, died evening, 1, 2015, at the Eastwood in Negaunee where she had resided a short while. Joan was born on 15, 1934 in Pelkie, Michigan, a daughter of the late Harry and Esther (Ecklund) Whitmarsh and resided on the Ecklund farm until the age of five. The family then moved to Escanaba for a short while, finally settling in the Traunik Trenary area where Joan graduated from Trenary High School in 1952. She then attended Northern Michigan University, Michigan State University and received a Bachelor of Arts teaching degree from Moorhead State University in Minnesota in 1964. Joan taught elementary school at the former Parkview Elementary for four years. Joan was the perfect football coachs wife, always understanding the time commitment and hard work. She was loyal to her husband, Bucks, teams and loved afternoons. She was also the best fan and very proud of her son, Kyle, when he entered the coaching field. Joan loved spending summers at the family cottage on Mehl Lake in the Gwinn area and all of the camp activities of gardening, caring for her flowers, feeding the birds and squirrels, paddle boating in the evening and playing golf at Red Fox Golf Club. Joan was very close to her church, Redeemer Lutheran, where she was active in its book club, bible study, the Ruth Circle and was a greeter as well as volunteered to help at funeral luncheons and other church meals. She loved volunteering and contributing to U.P. Special Olympics especially their Christmas gatherings where she and her husband served as honorary chairpersons one year. She also loved reading, spending time at Peter White Public Library and playing Bridge with her numerous lady friends. More than anything else however, Joan loved visiting her son and daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carl Buck Nystrom, whom she married on 14, 1956 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Marquette; one son, Kyle (Cherise) Nystrom of Mt. Pleasant, MI; three grandchildren, Logan, Tellena and Eva Nystrom; one sister, Harriet (Bob) Bartlett of Jacksonville, NC; four brothers, Roger (Janet) Whitmarsh, Mark (Jackie) Whitmarsh, and John (Mary Jane) Whitmarsh, all of Chatham, and Bruce Whitmarsh of Miles, MT; a brother-in-law, Robert Nystrom of Marquette; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents were two sisters-in-law, Ruth Whitmarsh and Evelyn Nystrom. A memorial service will be held on , 6th at 12 noon in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Marquette with the Rev. Steven Hulke officiating. The Nystrom family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service in the church. Burial will take place in the Park . Obituary: Donald Neil Nystrom, age 81 of 1540 W. Ridge St., Marquette, MI and Sun City, AZ passed away on May 23rd with his loving family by his side. He was a kind, generous, and hardworking man who spent his entire life taking care of his family and friends, as well as, trying to improve the day-to-day lives of people throughout Marquette . A lifelong resident of Marquette, Neil was born on 14, 1933, a son of the late Walford and Margaret (Hadrich) Nystrom and graduated from Graveraet High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and after his honorable discharge from the service, graduated from Northern Michigan University (NMU) in 1957. He went into business with his father and went on to own and successfully operate Nystroms Moving & Storage, U.P. Moving & Storage, and Superior Mini-Storage for over thirty years. Later, Neil became President of the Marquette Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Marquette Ambassadors, and President of the local chapter of the Air Force Association making him a strong advocate for the entire Upper Peninsula to help ensure it would remain someplace special. In addition to being a successful small businessman, Neil was very dedicated to improving the lives of all Marquette residents and gave back to the community in several ways. He was very generous with his time and money sponsoring numerous junior hockey teams, mens and womens high school sports teams, and a variety of athletic programs at NMU. Neil was recognized for his community service by being named one of Michigans Men of the Year and went on to receive NMUs Distinguished Alumni award in 1979, as well as, an Alumni Service Award in 1988. In his spare time, Neil enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and spending time at camp with his family and numerous friends. He was a diehard Packers fan who took his family on several weekend trips to Green Bay, WI to visit relatives and to watch his team play. Above all, Neil was a deeply religious man becoming a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Michaels Parish and St. Peters Cathedral. In his later years, Neils prayer time and Rosary group in Sun City, AZ became integral parts of his life. In the end, Neils stature, bright smile, positive attitude, and enduring sense of humor made him seem larger than life and left a great impression on those who met him. He will always be loved and remembered by his family and friends! Neil is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Sally Lynch whom he married on 28, 1957 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette; two children, Steven (Joan) Nystrom and their son, Peter of Fenton, MO and Margaret Peggy Nystrom and her daughter, Mary Margaret of Eden Prairie, MN; also several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Karen Dumisnil of Peoria, AZ. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Nystrom on 14, 2014 and two brothers, Richard and Wayne Nystrom. There will be a Mass for Neil at St. Peter Cathedral on , 8th at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass in the cathedral. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Neils name to the Upper Peninsula Childrens Museum or to St. Peter Cathedral, Marquette, Michigan.
