Obituary: Marilyn J. Franks Nusbaum, age 78 of Sterling died , 15, 2015 at Regency in Sterling. Marilyn was born 9, 1936 in Palatine, IL the daughter of Stanley and Evelyn (Langhoff) Johnston. She married Wilber Franks in of 1954 in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death in of 2007. Marilyn worked at General Electric in Morrison and was a CNA at Dixon State School. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, and crocheting. Marilyn was an avid reader and an amazing cook and baker. She also loved spending time with her family. Suvivors include one daughter Sherry (Doug) Henry of Harmon, two sons William Franks of San Diego, CA, and Kirby Franks of Rock Falls, two sisters Linda (Joel) Floto of Sikeston, MO, and Connie (Tim) Kuehl of Morrison, two brothers Eugene (Barbara) Johnston of Desert Hot Springs, CA, and Kenneth (Ruth) Johnston of Springfield, IL, and two grandchildren Andrea Henry of Peru, IL, and Josh (Melissa) Henry of Nolensville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Keith, one sister Janice, and three brothers Donald, Robert, and Dwayne. A graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. , 19, 2015 at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling with Pastor Jason Borton of the Harvest Time Bible Church officiating. |

Obituary: Adib cannot be defined by birth and death dates, schools, or survivors. He was an inspiration to many people. In the face of adversity, he persevered with graceful tenacity and departed this earth just as he lived with courage and dignity. He wants to let you know that he received a call, sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This is his final assignment; one that comes with a huge sign-on bonus, incentive, flexible work hours, competitive benefits and a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Adib Nuruddin (you probably knew him as Norman), age 83, entered eternal life quietly and peacefully on 24, 2016 in Surprise, AZ after a 20+ year battle with Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s related Dementia. He was born, Edward Norman Jr., on May 23, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Bernice (Foley) and Edward Norman Sr. Depending on who you are, you may have known him by one of the many names he was called - Dad, Daddy, Pops, Granddaddy, Edward, Eddie, Bug, Norman, Norm, Normie and most affectionately as Poops or Poopsie by his wife, Dagmar. In 1966, Adib met the love of his life, Dagmar. Introduced on a blind date by his 2nd cousin Coleigh Cain, the two married in 1967 after a brief courtship and began their ½ century journey together. He knew she was the one the minute she walked in the room. He even knew the day he married her that she wasn’t in love with him but that didn’t matter much to him. His thoughts – I knew I’d make her fall in love with me. Boy, was that an understatement; she fell head over heels in love with him. Everyone could see how much he loved her and how she was his princess. were inseparable; she was the yin to his yang. Adib was a very learned, worldly, cultured man with varied interests in literature, music including jazz, opera and classical, religion, philosophy, history and politics. He loved reading and had a collection of books, periodicals, journals and novels that could rival any local library. An avid historian, he could tell you details about world history stating the importance to learn and understand history so that we don’t repeat the past and make the same mistakes. A political buff, you were guaranteed to find him sit ting in front of the t.v. on any given for hours watching CNN, the McNeil Lehrer News hour and Face the Nation. He’d say it’s important to watch all viewpoints of the news and different news channels to gain a broad perspective of the issues. A philosophical and deeply spiritual man he studied world religions and philosophies from Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Transcendentalism, Existent ialism, and many more. He converted to the teachings of Islam at the age of 18 and changed his legal name from Edward Norman to Adib Edward Nuruddin. Wise beyond his years, his selection of the Muslim name ‘Adib’ was decidedly apropos; for the name ‘Adib’ means Scholar. Those that know him knew him to be understanding, learned, a mystic, a philosopher, a scholar, a teacher and an analyzer with a big picture view of the world – all characteristics and attributes of people named Adib. His solitary thoughtfulness and analysis of people and world events was sought out by many for his perspective and guidance – as one friend put it – providing the human side. The underlying theme of his life was helping others. A dear friend said, “some people think that to be a great Humanitarian, one needs to perform great deeds, but I was shown by your father that being a great Humanitarian starts with how you treat each individual you touch on a daily basis.” Dedicated to his career, he tirelessly helped others to pursue and achieve their personal and professional goals and dreams. He touched everyone he met with a remarkable level of kindness, patience and attention. He was an incredible listener. A very private man, those who were graced with the opportunity to get to know him, felt honored and privileged to have him in their life. All who met and knew him speak with an immense amount of admiration and fondness. His life made the world a better place for more people than we could ever know, for he was a great Humanitarian in the truest sense of the word. graduating from Bowen High School on the Southeast side of Chicago, Adib decided to pursue higher education and a career in business/criminal law. He attended Wilson Junior where he graduated in 1967 with an Associate degree in Pre-Law. While working full-time at General Mills, he attended night school at Roosevelt University graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Thereafter, he attended John Marshal Law School for approximately 3 years when his studies were cut short after he determined that all Attorneys were crooks and decided to remain in business and pursue a Management degree instead. Subsequently, he attended Aurora University and graduated in 1982 with an MS in Business Management. A veracious learner with an endless thirst for knowledge, he supplemented his formal education with ongoing training focused on Human Resource and Business Management receiving numerous accolades, certificates and awards throughout the years. In 1953, Adib began his career at General Mills (GMI) in the Consumer Foods Technology & Operations plant in S. Chicago as a sweeper on the manufacturing floor. He was the epitome of the American Dream – from meager beginnings, starting at the bottom and rising to the top through sheer grit, dedication, and hard work. He would continue to advance his career over the next 40 years with General Mills in the Consumer Foods Technology & Operations division.
