Obituary: PEKIN ~ The Rev. Dr. Timothy Jay Najpaver, 57, of Pekin, passed away at 6:24 a.m. , 30, 2014 at his home. Born 16, 1956 in Lakewood, OH to Edward William and Regina Dorothy (Sholdes) Najpaver, he married Dawn M. Vogler on 19, 1981 in Parma, OH. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Carissa (Justin) Virtue of Ozark, MO and Najpaver of Pekin; three sisters, Kathy Burley and Nancy Najpaver, both of Parma, OH, and Leslie (Michael) Clipper of Brunswick, OH; two brothers, David (Cindy) Najpaver and Lee (Denise) Najpaver, both of Parma, OH; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and two infant brothers, Mark and Joseph, preceded him in death. Tim received his Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, KY in of 1986. He also was the recipient of the Biblical Studies and Biblical Language Awards at Campbellsville. He continued his education at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY where he earned his Master of Divinity degree in of 1989 and later his Doctor of Philosophy degree in of 1994. He was the recipient of the Borchert Prize for the Outstanding Biblical Studies Student in 1989 and was a member of the Clyde T. Francisco Preaching Awards Selection Committee. Tim has served as the senior pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin since 1997. While at Liberty the past 17 years, he was instrumental in many programs including, implementing and serving as the co-training/facilitator for biblically based Life Support group ministries in the community; co-founded and implemented Faith Force, the only faith based, church sponsored, cancer support group ministry recognized by the American Cancer Society in the state of Illinois; established a ChurchCommunity liaison position and served as its initial director for church funding of the local House of Hope Women’s Abuse Shelter; created the “Matthew 25:35” food and clothing distribution ministry; developed and directed a Kid’s Hope ministry which weekly unites Christian mentors with at risk elementary school children for one-on-one mentoring during the school week; co-developed an outreach and compassion ministry to the men of Victory Acres in rural Peoria ; and provided spiritual guidance to those serving on the Tazewell Teen Initiative board. Previously, he served as pastor at Rowletts Baptist Church in Rowletts, KY from 1985 to 1991 and with Salem Baptist Church in Campbellsville, KY from 1991 to 1996. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Old Testament at Campbellsville University and Supervised Ministry Skills Development at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Involved in the Illinois Baptist State Association, Tim was a member of the Baptist Foundation of Illinois from 2009 to 2011, served as Youth Music Camp pastor in Greenville in 2006 and Chairman and Member of the Christian Life and Resolutions Committee from 2003 to 2004. He also was involved with the Metro Peoria Baptist Association (MPBA) and served as a member of the MPBA Leadership Training Team from 2007 to 2014; as Evangelism Director in 2000 and then from 2003 to 2005; as Children’s VBS clinician and VBS Assist Team in 1999; and Director of Pastoral Ministries in 1998. At Campbellsville University, Tim was Chairman of the Church Relations Council and Executive Committee for 1995-1996 and a member of the Church Relations Council and Executive Committee from 1991 to 1994. Tim enjoyed fishing, gardening, going to garage sales, and antique automobile restoration. He was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. Tim loved his Lord and enjoyed talking to others about faith and life. He always had a smile and time to talk and listen to others. He was proud of his family especially his daughter’s accomplishments. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. , 4, 2014 at Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin. Obituary: Hassan Najafi, 86, of Northfield. Loving husband of Marsha Najafi, nee Dunn; devoted father of Kevin Najafi, Susan (Andrew) Davidoff, Melinda (Paul) Cooke, and Chris (Jill) Najafi; proud grandfather of Brian, Sophie, Matthew, Bailey, Grace, Maggie, Jacob, and Adam. Hassan Najafi was born May 22, 1930 in Tehran, Iran. He completed his surgical residency at Pahlavi University Hospital in 1956 before moving to the United States. He married Marsha Ann Dunn from Pocatello, Idaho, on 28, 1959 and became a U.S. citizen on 7, 1964. He established residence in Northfield, Illinois with his family and remained there. On 27, 1968, he performed the first successful heart transplant operation in Chicago. In 1972 he became chairman of the department of cardiovascular-thoracic surgery at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical in Chicago for a period lasting 25 years. Friends and family will gather , May 27, 2017, 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral services, 12:00 noon, at Wm. H. Scott , 1100 Greenleaf Ave., Wilmette, IL 60091. Interment Memorial Park .
