Obituary: Rev. Dr. Guy Seymour Notice who was born on 6, 1929 to Daniel and Eugena Notice. The family resided in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies. Rev. Notice is the fifth of seven children, six boys and one girl. Rev. Notice had his early education at Waldensia Primary School in Trelawny, where from an early age, showed a strong inclination for learning. He was an energetic, highly motivated to succeed, focused, ambitious, unselfish in the pursuit of his goals and poised to lead a meaningful and productive life. At an early age he surrendered his life to Christ. His genuine passion for the Lord, his church and his congregation empowered him to accept the call of the Lord to the Ministry as he entered the Jamaica School of Theology, now known as the Bethel Bible . On successfully completing his course of studies at the college, Rev. Notice began his pastoral duties in the Church of God Ministry in 1954 at the St. Vincent New Testament Church of God at Albert Town, in the parish of Trelawny. He was later transferred to Deeside, in the same parish where he met and fell in love with his life partner Azelma Williams. were married in 1955 and shared a full life to the end. making an indelible print in those churches, Bishop Notice was called to serve in Hanover as the District Overseer for Lucea. During his tenure at Lucea, the district grew from 8 to 14 churches in six years. He was later transferred to the Headquaters church at 65 Waltham Park Road in Kingston where Rev. Notice opened the Tutorial under the chairmanship of Bishop Summers while assuming the role as assistant chairman. During his four years as pastor at that church, membership expanded from 347 to 900 and the district grew from 4 to 8 churches. Rev. Notice had a clear vision of Gods purpose for his life. He maintained a burning desire to fulfill Gods mission on this earth and saw the need to continue his education. He left Waltham Park for the United States to pursue further studies at Northwest Bible , in Minot, North Dakota; Fordham University, New York; Church of Christ Bible , New York; Goddard , Plainfield, Vermont; and Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, Florida. At his departure from this life, Rev Notice holds a BA degree in Penology and Criminology; BA in Theology and a PHD in Counseling. He also earned him a Honorary Doctorate in Theology. On graduation from Goddard Collage he worked in Brooklyn where he established the East Flatbush Church of God. Rev Notice returned to Jamaica under the appointment of the Church of God World Missions, as Director of Education at the Bethel Bible his Alma mater. He held the position for four years and returned to the United States where he established another church in Miami, Florida. In 1986 he established a church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He resigned that Pastorate in 1989 and moved to Orlando, Florida, where he launched a new church and later orchestrated the construction of this magnificent edifice which will remain a lasting monument in his honor. Illness forced his early retirement. Bishop Notice is well known for his oratory gifts and has fulfilled numerous speaking engagements as Bible Teacher and Conference speaker in England, Wales, Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and different locations here in the United States. He answered other calls in his life and served as Overseer for the Church of God for Jamaica and Grand Cayman, having oversight for 310 churches. His invaluable contribution to both spiritual and social life in Jamaica earned him the appointment as Justice of the Peace for the Parish of St Andrew and Chairman of the Chest Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. In 1982, his recognition in the Christian Ministry in both the Caribbean and the United States earned him honorary mention in the magazine Who is who among Black American Students. In 2005, the Mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer recognized Rev Notices invaluable contribution to the community and City of Orlando and declared 4, Dr. Guy S. Notice Day. An advocate for education and reading, Rev. Notice penned five books including In Christ All Are One. To many of his colleagues, Guy S. Notice is synonymous with the term Church Planter. He has a legacy of churches that he planted, not only in the Caribbean where he served, but also the four churches he founded in the United States. a long illness On 24, 2014 at 11:30 pm Rev. Dr. Guy S. Notice departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior. Bishop Notice is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Azelma; son, Donald (Canada); daughter, Sandra; Sister, Cislyn (Jamaica); brother, Raymoth (Jamaica); Sisters\in-law, Carmen and Kathleen; grand children, great grand children; nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, adopted children many extended family members, ministerial colleagues and the multitude of believers whose lives he touched. Bishop Notice was not only a faithful servant to the Lord but also to his church, friends and family. His integrity and accomplishments will continue to speak glowingly for him. May his soul rest in peace and Gods perpetual light continue to shine on him. |
