Obituary: Joel C. Martin, 89, beloved husband of 67 years to Patricia (Bouchard) Martin, died , 29, 2015 surrounded by his family at Vernon Manor. Joel was born in Van Buren, Maine to the late Levite and Flavie (St. Amant) Martin where he grew up before moving to Hartford CT, spending some time in Bloomfield, and finally settling in East Windsor where he lived for over fifty years. He was one of fourteen children. Joel loved deep sea fishing, and even obtained his dream of fishing in Alaska. He loved music, singing, and dancing – and even had his own band when he was younger, which would help in meeting the love of his life, Patricia Bouchard whom he would later marry. Joel was well known as the owner and operator of the East Windsor Wrought Iron Works, where he retired from in 1988. Joel leaves his devoted wife, Patricia Martin; his sons Leo James Martin and his wife Jill of Lakeland, FL, Gary Martin and his wife Barbara of East Hartford, Brian Martin and his wife Tracy of Worcester, VT, Clyde Martin and his wife Brenda of Ellington; his daughters Dianne DePascale and her husband Thomas of Windsor Locks, Cynthia Strout and her husband Kenneth of East Windsor, Karen Martin of Florida; 5 brothers; 3 sisters; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren with one on the way; many nieces and nephews; and his special friends Bill and Connie Faber of Glastonbury. Joel was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vernon Manor for the exceptional care of Joel, as well as the VITAS Hospice. Obituary: Janet S. Martin, 85 of Farmington, CT passed away on , 16, 2016. She was born in Hartford, CT on 1, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Frederick W. Smith and Carolyn F. Smith. Janet was the beloved wife of the late Donald C. Martin. shared a life together for 59 years. She is survived by her sister Caris S. Jones of Wethersfield, son Donald C. Martin Jr., (grandchildren) Matthew, Kristin, Lauren, Katelyn and Meghan, (great grandchildren) Jacob, Bradley, McKenna, Gabriella, Jessica, Jakob, Abigail, and MaKayla, daughters Shirley M. Standen and her husband John R. Standen and Elizabeth M. Kraft and her husband Donald F. Kraft Jr. (grandchildren) Kevin, Donald, Ellen, Emily, Deon and Lucy. Janet graduated from William H. Hall High School in 1949, she then briefly worked at the Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance where she met her husband Donald. married in 1951 at the First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford, Ct. moved to Farmington in 1956. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an accomplished crafter. Her talents included Christmas stockings, needlepoint, quilting, sewing and knitting. She loved to create things for her home and her family. She gave her time freely, volunteering at the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary Store and the Oak Hill School for the Blind in Hartford. In her service there, she learned to transcribe and write braille and recorded books on tape. Janet served on many committees at the First Baptist Church in West Hartford of which she was a member for over 50 years. She also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels in the community. Her deepest passion was her family and friends. She had a wonderful heart and always put others first. Her family loves her deeply and will carry her wisdom and kind and loving nature with them always. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Cedar Hill . A memorial service will be held , 25 at the First Baptist Church of West Hartford, 90 North Main Street at 3:00 p.m. There will be no calling hours. Obituary: Old Saybrook \ James A. Martin died 26, 2014 at Middlesex Hospital. He was 78 years old. Jim was the son of Jean Raymond Martin (Périgueux, France) and Mary Baldwin Hauck (Toledo, Ohio). Jims wife, Dorthe, died in 2012. Born in Toledo, Ohio 9, 1936, Jims family settled in Bellefontaine, Ohio where he graduated high school in 1954. Jim excelled at tennis, played clarinet in the band, and developed a life-long love of big band jazz music. graduating from Kenyon in 1958 (President, Delta Kappa Epsilon Lambda chapter), Jim taught in France for a year before serving in the United States Army assigned to the 7th Army Symphony in Stuttgart, Germany. During his tour of duty, he met his wife-to-be, Dorthe Petersen, in Genoa, Italy, at the wedding of mutual friends. Jim and Dorthe were married in 1962, lived in Ohio, then Sweden, then returned to the U.S. to settle in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. He enjoyed a long career as an industrial engineer working for H.B. Maynard, Stanadyne, and USCO. In retirement, Jim enjoyed playing tennis at the Old Saybrook Racquet Club, working on the Becky Thatcher, maintaining his antique model trains, and playing clarinet and saxophone in local bands. his wife died, he took up gardening. Jim is survived by a sister, Joan, daughter and son-in-law Christina and Tim, granddaughter Mathilda, and cousins John, Ann, Robert, and Sally. Calling hours will be 2 from 4pm-6pm at Fulton-Theroux in Old Lyme, CT. Burial services will be private. Born in the Bronx, NY the daughter of the late Vahan and Florence Burgujian, she had been a Fairfield area resident for the last 23 years. Mrs. Martin received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Hunter and was employed as a teacher prior to raising her family. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a member of the Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Isabel was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who delighted in time spent with her family. Survivors include two beloved children, Larry L. Martin and his wife Jeanie of Needham, MA and Lydia M. Kalt and her husband Richard of Westport; four cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Trevor Martin and Chloe and Chelsea Kalt; a brother, Armen Burgujian and his wife Lola of New Jersey; a sister, Mary Ann Anooshian of New Hyde Park, NY and several nieces and nephews.
