Obituary: Morris Ruben Molstad, 90, of Arlington, WA passed away on 5, 2015. Morris was born on 26, 1924 in LaMoure, ND to Anton and Randi (Tofte) Molstad. He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1950. Morrie moved to Arlington from North Dakota in 1954. There he met Bernice (Tiedeman). married on 4, 1956 in Coeur DAlene, ID. Morrie was an auto mechanic who purchased Morries Union 76 in 1963. He sold that in 1976, going on to own various businesses and investment properties up until his retirement. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, and hunting. He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters. Morris is survived by his sons Ralph (Mary Ann) Monty of Arlington, WA and Marvin (Vernie) Monty of Kennewick, WA as well as five grandchildren; grandsons Marvin, Matthew, Daniel, Shon, and Aaron; and four great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held at Weller on 13, 2015 from 10am-5pm. A Celebration of life will be held at Weller on 14, 2015 at 1pm with a graveside service to follow at Arlington . A reception will be held at the Medallion Hotel following the services. Donations may be made in Morris' name to the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Association. |

Obituary: Bernice "Meem" Jenny Molstad, 95, passed away 10, 2014 at her home in Bryant, WA. She was born to Carl and Alice Westman 25, 1919 in New Effington, SD. Bernice lived in South Dakota, Canada and then on to Washington, where she spent the rest of her life. She grew up mostly in the Bryant area, attending the Bryant school and Arlington High School. Bernice was married to Otto Molstad for 50 years, until his death. She was a Bryant Grange member during that time and was the last surviving member of the Bryant Birthday Club Ladies. Bernice loved everyone; she was named Meem by her grandson Ron and known by that name by countless people. Preceding Bernice in death was her husband Otto and grandchildren Trever and Ryan. She is survived by her children Dennis (Nina) Molstad, Norrine (Mike) Larson; grandchildren, Ron, Janine, Jayne, Diana, John, Laurie, Ann, Melissa Jason, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held , 16, 2014, 1-5 p.m. at Weller , 327 N. MacLeod Ave., Arlington, WA. Obituary: Albert Bennett Molsness was born in the family home in Auburn, Washington on 30, 1914. His father John and mother Berdina both came to the U.S. from Norway in the late 1800s. When Al was two years old, the family moved to Montana, eventually settling in Kalispell. He graduated from Flathead High School in 1932. He worked on a farm at Creston for 2 years and then got a job with the Civilian Conservation Corp(CCCs) and then was a lookout for the Forest Service for two summers and also worked at Big Prairie in the Bob Marshall Wilderness of Montana. Then he got a job at the Equity Supply hardware store in Kalispell. He was introduced to Shirley Manning by his sister Marie, and on 1, 1938 they were married. Son John(Jack) was born on 12, 1939. In 1942 Al and Shirley moved to Camas, Washington where he worked for Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill and then he got a job as a steam fitter, in Vancouver, Washington, helping build Liberty Ships for Kaiser Aluminum for the rest of World War II. the war, he got a job with Longview Plumbing in Longview, Washington and became a journeyman plumber. He then got a job 3 years later with JH Kelley Plumbing in Longview. He was a plumber for the next 30 years, until he retired in 1976. In 1946, son Gary was born, 12, and they lived in Longview until 1952. The family moved to Coeur dAlene, Idaho, but only stayed for the summer as the work was too uncertain at that time. The family moved to the Spokane Valley, and Al got a job with Warren, Little and Lund, the biggest plumbing shop in Spokane at that time. He stayed with them until his retirement, and supervised many large jobs in and around Spokane. These jobs included schools, hospitals, and University classroom and dormitory buildings. These buildings were in Spokane, Lewiston, Davenport, Pullman, Moscow, Orville and many other locations. his retirement, Al and Shirley went south to Arizona for 15 years, as snowbirds, from until . Al first started playing golf after he retired, and had 3 holes in one and was a member of the Liberty Lake Mens Club. Al and Shirley also traveled all over the United States and Canada, and took trips to Hawaii and Mexico and Alaska. visited friends and relatives on most of these trips. Al had learned how to fish from a neighbor in Kalispell and also was an excellent hunter, both deer and pheasant hunting. He caught several steelhead on the Snake River near Lewiston, Idaho in the 1960s and 1970s. The family went camping during the 1950s and 1960s, going to places like Priest Lake when it was still a dirt road from Priest River to the Lake. Al was especially fond of teaching people how to water ski, and taught many people how to ski at Lake Coeur d Alene in the 1960s. Al had bought a 14 foot Sunde and D Evers fiberglass boat in 1958, and used that boat mostly in North Idaho. Al and Shirley had bought land on the Pend Oreille River in 1960 and built a very nice cabin on it in 1966. Al built it virtually by himself, with help on key aspects which required more than one person. enjoyed this cabin, entertaining friends and relatives in it for many years, until they sold it in 1978. went swimming, boating and water skiing on the river for all the time they owned the cabin. But after his retirement, his focus shifted from the lake cabin to going south for the winter. Al and Shirley moved from their home on Nixon in Dishman to a manufactured home on the Spokane River near Barker Road in 1977. Al was a very talented person, and built a garage and deck on this property. lived there, enjoying their view of the river, which was in their back yard, for 24 years. then moved to Orchard Crest Retirement Community in 2001. Shirley passed away in 2003, Al moved back to Orchard Crest from Park Place, where he and Shirley had lived for one and one half years, during Shirleys illness. He played golf his last time at the age of 90. His last year was spent at an adult family home, the Selkirk House, in the valley. Al had three sisters, Jenny, Alice and Marie, and a younger brother Ervin. All but Marie have passed on. Marie still lives in Coeur dAlene. Son, John (Jack), is married to Peggy and lives in Port Townsend, Washington. have 2 sons, Eric and Bryan. Son, Gary, is married to Linda and lives in Spokane Valley. have a daughter, Kristen, and a son, Scott. Eric has a daughter, Brooke, Als only great-grandchild. A.B. Molsness Non-Work Activities 1944 to 1952 By John (Jack) Molsness The thing that made my Dad so unique was his talent and ability for activities after work. GARDENING World War II, we moved first to Kalama and then to Longview, from Vancouver, Washington. Dad made sure we had a great garden. In Kalama, he brought in tomato plants, planted potatoes, then corn, beans and carrots. Strawberries and raspberries were already growing in the garden space. I was amazed because I didn know it was possible for the family to grow things. The garden turned out great. The family always had gardens in Longview and Spokane Valley also.
