Obituary: Phillip E. Meek, a lifelong Tumwater resident, passed away at the age of 81 on 25, 2016. He was born on 28, 1934 to Bernice and W.A. Meek. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1952 before meeting his wife, Shirley (Cusick) Meek. marrying in 1955 they lived in the San Francisco area while Phil was in the Army. wards they relocated back to Tumwater to start their family and had two children, Kelli and Brad. Phil was a vibrant man, full of life and energy. He had a sharp sense of humor and was always the first to offer a witty outlook to anything life threw his way. Phil was an avid reader, and enjoyed reading about World War II airplanes along with true crime stories. He enjoyed taking great care of his yard and was very knowledgeable about the birds that lived there, too. He had a love for the Oregon coast and made many trips there with his family to enjoy the beauty it had to offer. Phil also made weekly trips to the casino to play his favorite slot machine while enjoying a cup of coffee. He never missed an Oregon Ducks football game, the latest boxing match or any NFL football game. Phil also enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge of the history of Tumwater, as he was born and raised here and took great pride in being a resident. Phil also shared about his love for Christ, and how his relationship with his God carried him through all of lifes obstacles. Above all Phil most enjoyed spending time with his family sharing dinners and family activities. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren reading, coloring, sharing stories and playing card games. He was very close with his family and had such a strong bond with them all. Phils quiet wisdom and guidance will always be remembered. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten because of the impact he has had on so many. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, his son, Brad, and his brother, Harlen. Phil leaves behind his daughter, Kelli (Meek) Dunkin, son-in-law, Ken, grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon, and great-grandchildren, Colby and Makena, and his sister, Audrey Reynolds. A graveside service for Phil will be held at Mills & Mills Memorial Park in Tumwater on 11 at 2:00 pm. |
