Obituary: Jack Manisay was born Khamphong Manisay on 5, 1952 in Ban Sok, Savannakhet, Laos. He was the sixth of nine children born to Bounma Manisay (father) and Sai Huangsompoo (mother). In his 20s he decided to join the Lao military to become a pilot but due to the Vietnam War, he had to flee his country and seek refuge at Mok Tahan Refugee Camp. There he met Kheng Peusy and soon married. immigrated to the United States and settled down in Portland, Oregon where they lived for 20 years before moving to Vancouver, Washington where they have been for the past 12 years. One of his proudest accomplishments was obtaining his United States citizenship. He took that test very seriously and worked hard to accomplish his goal. He was so proud to be an American citizen that he decided to be called Jack. Jack also earned his technical degree in welding at Sacramento Office of Education and excelled in that field for more than 20 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors where fishing, hunting, and gardening brought him peace and satisfaction….most of the time ïŠ On 22, 2014 at 11:58 pm, Jack passed away in his home after a courageous but tiring battle with liver cancer. He was 62. He will always be cherished in our hearts and forever missed. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kheng Manisay, two daughters, Darline and Dianne, and three grandchildren, Sebastian, Novasai and Aizen. |
