Obituary: John Edward McDonald, of Williamsburg, passed away on 29, at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his father, James Bruce McDonald. John was born in Denver, CO. He started high school in Lakewood, CO, and graduated from Lee High School in Springfield, VA. a brief period at Virginia Tech, he enlisted in the US Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged and achieved an E-5 ranking. Upon his return he enrolled at Northern Virginia Community . John received an Associate's degree in business, he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Fraternity. His studies continued at the University of Virginia where he graduated with distinction with a BS in Commerce. John was the Treasurer for the class of 1973, a member of the Raven Society and of the Omicron Delta Kappa Service Fraternity. While John and his bride Lois went to high school together, they did not start dating until his return from Vietnam. were married in 1973 and remain married to this day. moved to New York City where John was a Senior Auditor for Coopers & Lybrand. In 1976 they moved to Williamsburg where John attended William & Mary. He received an MBA with a concentration in Finance and went on to serve as a Lecturer on the Principles of Accounting at the college. John became the Director of Finance for James City in 1976. His position changed to Director of Financial Management Services; he served James City until his passing. John's memories will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Lois Loeslein McDonald; son, Matthew McDonald and his wife, Jorie; daughters, Taylor McDonald and Paige McDonald; brother Jim McDonald and his wife, Pauline; sister Mona Key; mother Marjorie McDonald and many other relatives and close friends. A celebration of life service will be held on , 4 beginning at 4:00 PM at Nelsen , 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA. In honor of John's memorial, donations can be made to the Williamsburg Regional Library or the Hornsby Middle School Library on his behalf. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com. |
