Obituary: Jewell Watts Massie, 82, of Lynchburg passed away , 5, 2015, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late James Edward Massie, Sr. Born 7, 1932, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John A. Watts, Sr. and the late Lelia Wright Watts. Jewell was a retired recreation leader for the City of Lynchburg, and she was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, Jewell was preceded in death by two brothers, John A. Watts, Jr. and Carroll E. Watts; and one granddaughter, Brittney Massie. Jewell is survived by her two children, Darlene Carter and James E. Massie, Jr. (Lynn); ten grandchildren, Stacy Hanks, Jewell Hancock (Kent), Tammy Garbee (Chris), Susan Arthur (Robert), Tommy Hammock (Tara), Terry Palmer (Michael), Jody Massie, Peyton Massie and Shannon Owens (Jimmy); sixteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., , 8, 2015, at Gethsemane Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Duck officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill . The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., , 7, 2015, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to either Gethsemane Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Obituary: Harold Lloyd Massie Sr., 85, of Madison Heights, peacefully passed into the presence of Christ on , Dec. 27, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Shirley Napier Knott Massie. Born Jan. 5, 1929 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Hebron G. and Effie Harvey Massie, and also was preceded in death by a son, Gregory L. Massie, and a sister, Edith Massie Cash. He was a retired carpenter with the Central Virginia Training , and was a member and former deacon of Piney River Baptist Church. He was a 1947 graduate of Temperance High School in Amherst . Mr. Massie is survived by two sons, Harold L. Massie Jr. and wife Donna of Madison Heights, and Jeffrey L. Massie and wife Donna of Coconut Creek, Fla.; one daughter, Deborah Massie Thurman and husband Russell of Madison Heights; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was loved and is fondly remembered by the entire Leonard J. and Manilla C. Mays family. Mr. Massie is remembered for the many homes and other structures, including Piney River Baptist Church, he built as a skilled contractor. He also served with the Virginia National Guard for three years. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. , Dec. 30 at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights with the Rev. Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst . The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m., , Dec. 29 at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Mr. Massies daughter and son-in-law, 407 Eastview Drive, Madison Heights. Obituary: Glenn Alan Massie, 62, of Staunton passed away 15, 2016 in his sleep at home due to a heart condition. Born 3, 1954 in Staunton, he was a son of the late Glenwood R. and Nora L. (Steele) Massie. Mr. Massie graduated from R.E. Lee High School Class of 1972 and Old Dominion University in 1976. He had recently been employed at Monties Sports. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Tom Vass and Richard Drake. Survivors include his sisters, Carolyn Vass and husband, Dennis Whitley of Fishersville and Betty Drake of Charlottesville; two nieces; a nephew; and six great nephews. Obituary: MASSIE, Dr. Francis Stanford, Sr., 79, of Midlothian. Passed away 26, 2014. He is survived by his sons, Francis Stanford Massie Jr. (Nicole), Tristan Shaw Massie (Tammy);grandchildren, Francis Stanfard Massie III,Harrison Austin Massie,Madeline Amelia Massie;his brother, Thomas Clement Massie (Nancy);and many other relatives and friends. Dr. Massie was born and raised in Waynesville, a small town in the mountains of North Carolina and attended Duke University as an undergraduate, as well as for medical school.His pediatric internship was completed at Duke University. He trained in pediatrics and allergy at the University of California at San Francisco Medical , where he was a chief resident. Dr. Massie served two years in the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton. He was recruited to VCU/MCV, and from 1967 to 1977 he taught general pediatrics as a fulltime academician.He developed the first Board approved training program in pediatric allergy in Virginia. In 1977, Dr. Massie went into private practice for allergy and was part-time director of the Newport News Family Practice Clinic in allergy. He was a clinical professor of pediatrics at MCV from 1983 to the present. He was a co-founder of the Virginia Allergy and Asthma Society and served as President twice. He served on many hospital and academic committees. He maintained a vibrant clinical practice for 37 years, first in solo practice then for the last 12 years with Richmond Allergy & Asthma Specialists. He was passionate about caring for his patients and continued to see patients up until weeks before his death. He also enjoyed gardening, music, playing piano, traveling and hiking with his children and grandchildren. Dr. Massie has two sons, F. Stanford Massie Jr., M.D., who graduated from MCV and is Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama School Of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama and Tristan S. Massie, who received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from MCV and works for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Maryland. Obituary: Dr. Francis Stanford Massie, Sr., 79, of Midlothian passed away 26, 2014.
