Obituary: Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend returned home on 10, 2009, following a long and valiant battle against many chronic health problems. Janice was born 10, 1930 in Payson, Utah, to Frederick and Lillian Andreason Neil. She grew up and received her education in Payson, graduating from Payson High School, where she was active in the Pep Club and making. Janice married her lifelong sweetheart, Clifford Reed McKell, on 15, 1948 and had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in of last year. were later sealed together for time and all eternity at the Manti Temple on 18, 1963. Together they raised three children, Douglas Reed McKell, Kathryn Janice McKell (Thomas), and Michael David McKell. Family was always her primary focus in life, and she spent her time loving, caring, teaching, and being an example for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who all loved her dearly. Janice had many interests and talents. In her younger years she was an active member of the LDS church, and served for many years as Coordinator of the Junior School. She was also involved with the PTA, and served as President several different times while her children were in school. In later years, even as her health declined, she remained a wonderful friend and mentor to those who knew her and with those with whom she came in contact with during her illness. Janice was a talented artist and loved oil painting until asthma made it impossible for her to continue to paint. She loved traveling with her family and spent many weeks of vacation in Keams Canyon, Arizona, where she developed a love for the Hopi and Navajo cultures. Many of her oil paintings were inspired by the time she spent in Arizona. While these last several years have been very difficult for Janice, she handled them with grace, courage, and humor. Even when was in pain, she would never complain, but somehow manage a smile or to make a little joke. She had a fighting spirit, a sharp wit, and that ever present mischievous twinkle in her eye. We won mention the ax she kept under he bed for fear of future retaliation. . . She leaves behind her beloved husband, Clifford Reed McKell, and her three children, Douglas Reed McKell (Kathleen); Kathryn McKell Thomas (Jerry); Michael David McKell; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters, Lorae Thomas; Marcia Jones; and one brother, Fredrick (Bud) Neil. She was preceded in death by her parents. Special thanks to Dr. Sirers and Dr. AlShuquirat, and the loving staff at Mountain View Hospital, as well as to Dr. Eppich and the staff at the Provo Dialysis (especially to Adam and Melissa for always going the extra mile!) Thanks is also extended to Alpine (Ela Jensen) and Hospice for their support. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our love and deepest appreciation to Erin Cope and Shauna Tilton, who have lovingly helped care for Janice over the past 2 years. We feel blessed to have had all of these good people in our lives. services will be held at the Spanish Fork Canyon Ridge Stake at 1911 East 1850 South on , 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing on , 12, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, and at the above listed Stake on morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork . |

Obituary: Freda McKell 28, 1920 – May 26 2014 It seemed fitting to lose our Mother on Memorial Day. Our father served in World War II and the military was a big part of their lives. were sweethearts and are now together once again. Freda Eliza Leifson McKell was born to Juren Victor and Mary Bradford Leifson, in the home of her grandparents, William and Eliza Goodson Jex in Spanish Fork, Utah on 28, 1920. She was from one of the early Icelandic families to settle in Utah. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. Freda was the oldest of 11 children, and as the oldest, she became a second mother and helped raise her younger brothers and sisters, all who loved her deeply. She attended school in Spanish Fork and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. She was crowned as the Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Queen in 1940, and some of the satin from the float was used to make her wedding dress. She married William E. McKell on May 15th 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple. He was serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps and was able to get a three day pass to get married. The married officers were able to live off base, so they began their married life renting a one-room tourist cabin in Wendover, Utah. Later, Williams B-17 aircraft went down over the North Sea. He was first reported as Missing In Action, but 13 months later he was discovered to be a Prisoner Of War, first in Stalag Luft III and then in Stalag VII-A, and was held for over two years. Freda never lost faith that he would be coming home, especially after reading his Patriarchal Blessing. Freda had to move back home with her parents and her brothers and sisters where she raised their son with the help of her parents. She worked with others each month to prepare Red Cross boxes of food and other necessities to send to American prisoners of war. Due to a government error, her husband remained as missing in action until the end of the war; therefore, Freda did not receive any of his military pay while he was away. She worked for the Selective Service Draft Board to support herself and their son. Freda was truly a beautiful person, both spiritually and physically. Even later in life, people would comment on how beautiful she was. She was a friend to everyone and never met a person she didn like. Not only was she a people person who loved to socialize with others, she was caring and selfless and always thought of and put others before herself. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family and everyone who visited. No one who ever came to her home went away without eating something, whether they were hungry or not. all of her children were in school, Freda continued to be needed and busy. She found a job as a secretary at an elementary school so she could still have summers with the family. Giving back was one of her special talents. She was the first Relief Society President of the Pleasant View 4th Ward, and served for many years in various positions within the ward. One of the special times in her life was serving an LDS Mission together with her beloved husband as directors of the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor , where she was actively involved in community service. We are eternally grateful for the wonderful and loving care Mother received from her in-home caregivers, Hearts for Hospice, and Beehive . Freda was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be in our hearts forever and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Freda was preceded in death by her parents Juren Victor and Mary Bradford Leifson; brothers Glen Leifson, Ted Leifson, Allen Leifson, Jack Leifson; and sisters Luene Ludlow, Afton Rosenbaum, Elaine Pullman. She is survived by her brothers Thor (Loyce) Leifson and Mark (Freda Kay) Leifson; sister Leifson; son Robert (Connie) McKell; and daughters Barbara (John) Evenson, Gayle (Quinn) Barton, Sheila Bos and Annette Davieau; as well as 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on , May 30, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Tribute , which is located at 85 East 300 South in Provo. services will be held on , May 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant View 4th Ward Chapel located at 2900 North Timpview Drive. There will be a second viewing prior to the funeral, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Freda will be buried next to the love of her life, William E. McKell, at the Spanish Fork . |
