Obituary: MUSFELDT
Charles D. Musfeldt Jr. M.D., lovingly known to his friends as ÂDr. ChuckÂ, went to be with his Lord and Savior on 14th 2011. On 13th, he was involved in a serious car accident, sustaining internal injuries, and the Lord called him to his heavenly home early morning. Dr. Chuck was born 12th 1955 in Chicago, Illinois. As a child, their family doctor saved his fatherÂs life after his appendix ruptured. From that day, Dr. Chuck desired to become a Family Physician in order to help heal people. He attended Conant High School where he played basketball, ran cross-country, and was in the National Honor Society, graduating in 1973. He then attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida where, as a pre-med major, he became a member of Sigma-Phi-Epsilon Fraternity and served as President of Green Key, a resident assistant in the dorms, and as aid to Dr. Norman P. Crawford for the St. Johns Dinner Club. Most importantly, Chuck met his soul mate and future Âwiffy, Linda Stinnett. Following his graduation with honors in 1977, Dr. Chuck attended Balliol , Oxford University on a Rotary Fellowship in England where he earned a Graduate Degree in Human Biology. While at Oxford University, Chuck played basketball and earned his Blue when their team won the 1978 National Basketball Championship. He then returned to the United States where he attended medical school at the University of Florida. his first year of medical school, Chuck and Linda were joyfully united in Christ and in marriage on 28th 1979. He graduated from medical school in 1982 and did his residency as a Family Physician at the St. VincentÂs Family Practice in Jacksonville. He thought this was his dream come true. However, it would not be long before he began to feel that his work in medicine was a temporary fix to a long-term need that was greater than medicine could fix.
In 1984 God brought Dr. Chuck and Linda their first daughter Miranda Gail Musfeldt, and two years later their second daughter Laura LaVonne Musfeldt. In 1986 he finished his residency program and practiced as a Family Physician in Jacksonville, Florida. During this time, the Musfeldts hosted two Finnish foreign exchange students through the organization Youth For Understanding. While working fulltime as a family doctor, being a husband, a parent, and serving at his church, Chuck earned his MBA at Jacksonville University. In 1989 the Musfeldt family moved to Naperville, Illinois where Dr. Chuck worked as a medical health care consultant with Ernst and Young. a few years, Dr. Chuck opened his own consulting firm helping hospitals, clinics, doctors, and administrators develop more cost effective ways to practice medicine. He realized through his work as a consultant the joy and satisfaction of having a beneficial impact on many peopleÂs lives.
It was in Chicago that Dr. Chuck started an amazing new adventure, accepting the invitation of a man at church to attend a Bible Study Fellowship class. Dr. Chuck served as a Discussion Leader in his BSF Class. He loved gathering each week with 100+ men to talk about their lessons, worship God and learn about the Bible passage from the Teaching Leader. Through BSF, he learned to read his Bible daily instead of doing his lesson at the last minute in the parking lot before class by the dome light of his car. He also learned to pray with and for others, and that work was not his Âe all and end allÂ. He learned the importance of teaching children from GodÂs Word and how to do that himself with his own children rather than expecting that from others. Eventually, he became the Teaching Leader of the Oakbrook Evening MenÂs Bible Study Fellowship BSF Class and watched God grow the class from 150 to 450 men in five years as they were being challenged and changed by the regular study and application of GodÂs Word.
Dr. Chuck invited every man he knew to the BSF Class. One night he invited a man from church who was one of the leaders of the high school youth group. The man said, ÂYes, I will go if you will become a high school leader. Dr. Chuck accepted and began working with the freshman boys, continuing through their senior year. He greatly impacted both high school boys and girls, developing lifelong friendships with them, watching with satisfaction as these students developed their own personal faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He found great joy as he witnessed living faith replace the loneliness, despair and hopelessness in many of their lives. This was a change and Âcure that medicine could not give. It was during this time that Dr. Chuck was asked to accept a new position in San Antonio, Texas at the Headquarters of BSF as Director of International Operations. In 2004, the Musfeldts relocated to San Antonio where Dr. Chuck worked with more than 130 BSF Classes outside of North America. He and his wife Linda traveled to cities around the world to encourage the International BSF classes and to pray with people interested in developing new BSF Classes. Having always been a people person and making friends wherever he went, Dr. Chuck died, fulfilling his dream of helping and healing people, not through medicine as he once expected but through the power of GodÂs Word changing one life at a timeÂ.for eternity.
Dr. Chuck was preceded in death by his father Charles and his mother Ann. He is survived by his cherished helpmate and best friend, Linda; his beautiful daughters Miranda and Laura Caleb Walker; his beloved granddaughter and playmate, Dakota; his brother Gene Linda White; and countless friends and family around the world. Memorials may be sent to Bible Study Fellowship International; Joni and Friends; and the First Baptist Church on McCullough Avenue in San Antonio, TX. Visitation will be on , 18, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Main Sanctuary. SERVICE
