Obituary: services are set for for longtime Levelland resident and minister, Donald L. Moreland, who died , 4, 2010 at his home following a lengthy illness. Services are set for 2 p.m., 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Levelland with Dr. Steve Vernon of Dallas, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, Lubbock under direction of George Price , Levelland. Moreland was survived by his wife of 50 years, Betsy Oldach Moreland. were married 27, 1960 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His two decade ministry in Levelland began in 1974 when he left the education ministers position at Red Bridge Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri to accept a similar position as Education Minister and Business Administrator at the First Baptist Church until he retired in 1995. In addition to managing the churchs day-to-day operations, he also ministered to hundreds of members over 21 years, making frequent hospital trips to help the sick, home visits to the elderly and countless private encounters with individuals and families in need. Prior to entering the ministry he was a buyer and manager for JCPenney Co. in both Denver, Colorado and Kansas City, Missouri from 1960 to 1972. He also taught sixth grade in Brownfield from 1960-1962. He was born on 22, 1936 in Hockley to H.B. and Maurine Moreland, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Levelland High School in 1955 and from Hardin-Simmons in 1961 with a degree in psychology. He was also survived by two daughters, Mindy Smith of Canyon and husband Billy; Stacy Lacy of Lubbock and husband Randy; a son, Scott Moreland of Tampa, Fla., and wife Melinda; and one brother, Larry Moreland and his wife Faye, of Denver City. Hes also survived by seven grandchildren: Lauren Smith of New York, NY.; Spencer Moreland of Gainesville, Fla.; Hunter Smith of Canyon; Shelby Moreland of Tampa, Fla.; Conner Moreland of Tampa, Fla.; Abby Lacy of Lubbock, and Ashlynn Lacy, also of Lubbock. Obituary: Carl Bryan Moreland, age 79, passed away peacefully on 26, 2012, at his daughters home surrounded in love. He was born on 14, 1933, in Graham, TX to Carl and Doris Moreland. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Moreland of Plano, TX; children, Carl Bryan Moreland, Jr. and wife Elaine of McKinney, TX, John Kelly Moreland and wife Rhonda of Blue Ridge, TX, Jimmy Joe Moreland and wife Aimee of McKinney, TX, Alisa Marie Dean and husband Darrell of Josephine, TX; brother, John Moreland and wife Shirley of Midland, TX; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; niece and nephew; and many extended friends and family. Carl graduated from Monahans High School and was a graduate of the University of North Texas. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps. Carl had a love for old cars, eating, and spending time on the farm. He loved to be with family and friends and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and friend to many. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be held at Ted Dickey West on , 30, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 pm. A Celebration of Carls life will be held at the family home following the visitation. Obituary: Below please find the combined obituary of Jim and Barbara Moreland. James Roy Moreland was born 8, 1929 in Irving, Texas. He was the son of William Jefferson Moreland and Dottie Crowley Moreland and was also the son of Don and Pat Christian. Jim graduated from Irving High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he was assigned to the 11th Airborne. There he trained paratroopers for the Korean Conflict but was never deployed. leaving the military service, Jim enrolled at the University of Texas where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Jims business career was spent with Texas Instruments. He held several patents and was a major contributor in TIs development of integrated circuitry. He retired from TI in the early 90s. While living in Los Colinas, Jim was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Irving Independent School District. He was an avid sportsman most notably as a bird hunter. He enjoyed hunting quail, dove and turkey with his beloved Brittany Spaniels. Barbara Faye Cannon Moreland was also born in Irving on 24, 1933. She was the daughter of Roy Cannon and Naomi (Oma) Borah Cannon. She too was a graduate of Irving High School where she played basketball for the Lady Tigers. Barbara was raised on the family farm which sat on the land that formed the south end of the DFW airport. Barbara and Jim were married in of 1957 and she was a stay at home mother raising their two daughters. She was an artist, an outstanding cook, gardener, and a wonderful caregiver. Her nickname of Dead Eye speaks to her bird hunting prowess. Barbara and Jim are survived by two daughters; Evrin Ford of Beaumont and Debra Lynn Moreland Richard of Carrollton, two grandchildren Kelly Ann Smith and Casey Ray James Smith. Also surviving is their great granddaughter Dakota Jean Smith and a number of Jims siblings. A memorial service to celebrate the Morelands lives will be held on , 28, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Institute or Carl Farleys Boys Ranch (West Texas). |
