Obituary: Janice Sue Monroe, 65, passed away on , 27, 2017, at her home in Dallas, TX, surrounded by her loving family, after a two year battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). Jan was born in Spokane, WA on 12, 1951, to Fred Mayhew and Joann Britton. Jan was a military brat and and moved all over the United States during her childhood, ultimately residing in Mesquite, TX, where she graduated from Mesquite High School in 1970. Jan spent eight years with the Dallas Police Department, working in the Communications Division, and the Southeast Patrol Division. She met Bill Monroe, a Dallas Police Officer, and they were married in 1975. She left the DPD in the mid-1970s, and she, along with Bill and Dale Meadows, established Dallas Security Systems (DSS), in 1978. Jan was active in all aspects of the company and was the President/CEO and majority shareholder in Dallas Security Systems at the time of her death. She also served on the Board of Directors of sister companies DSS Fire and DSX Access Control Systems. Through her contributions and leadership, Dallas Security Systems is now one of the largest independent security companies in the United States. Jan and Bill moved from Mesquite to Sunnyvale, TX in 1993, and Jan was actively involved in the Sunnyvale Garden Club where she served for many years as an officer and was instrumental in numerous fund raisers benefiting the Sunnyvale Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, SISD scholarships and other recipients. SGC is where Jan met some of her closest friends, and hosted some of the most fabulous parties and events in Sunnyvale. Jans greatest accomplishment however was being an amazing mother, spouse, and Gramme. She was fiercely protective of her family, and always showed us how much she loved and cared for us. Jan is survived by her husband to whom she was married for 43 years, William C. Monroe, daughter, Amy Monroe, son, Marty Monroe and his wife, Alice Sloan Monroe, and two grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Merritt Sloan Monroe, and Charlotte Rose Monroe, who all reside in Dallas, TX. Jan is also survived by her sister Jonette Myatt, and nieces , Jan, and Erin, who all reside in Nashville, TN. Jan is also survived by her long-time, dear friends Brenda & Jim Reames of Mesquite, TX, Vicki and Rick Roebuck of Sunnyvale, TX, and Merry and Ron Ziegenfuss of Sunnyvale, TX. Jan is preceded in death by her Mother-In-Law, Veda Ruth Aurentz, of Nacogdoches, TX, and Mother-In-Law, Lois Adair of Shreveport, LA. The Monroe family is thankful for the excellent and compassionate care that Jan received during her two-year battle with Glioblastoma. Wed like to thank Dr. Natalie M. Smith at Baylor University Medical , Dr. Kyle E. Doughty at Baylor Neurosurgery Associates, and Dr. Isaac Melguizo-Gavilanes and Dr. Karen Fink, along with the entire nursing team, research staff, and support staff at Neuro-Oncology Associates in Dallas. Additionally, wed like to thank the staff at Haven , especially Cheryl Givens and Martha Hill. In lieu of flowers, we know that Jan would want everyone to consider supporting clinical trials for GBM patients. Glioblastoma, also known as Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), is the most aggressive form of brain cancer for which there is currently no cure.
