Obituary: Sam B. Monaco 2, 1923- 23, 2015 Sam B. Monaco went to be with the Lord on , 23, 2015. He was born 2, 1923, the 3rd child out of a family of eight children and the son of Italian immigrants, Rose and Blas Monaco, who settled in San Antonio in 1920. His father was a produce vendor and his mother a housewife, raising their large family in a two bedroom house located in the immediate west side of town where a number of Italian Immigrants settled. From an early age, Sam was active with the Christopher Columbus Italian American Society and The San Francesco di Paola Church, all located downtown on Martin St. Sam was active in all sports but had a true love for baseball. He continued to play into his early adult years in mens fast pitch leagues. As a young man, he and his brothers would work early morning hours before school for their father, going to market and then running their produce route to their customers in the city. At the age of 14, he operated the business and attended school for several months while his father traveled back to Italy. From an early age he learned the value of hard work and living frugally through difficult times. At age 16, he graduated early from Fox Tech (known then as San Antonio Tech) with training as an electrician. He graduated early to help the family and pursue his trade. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army AirCorp and served his country as a radar technician until the war ended in 1945. Sam returned home and started working as an electrician with the goal of becoming a master electrician. In 1947, through a family friend and relative, he met Mary Pingitore from Worcester, Massachusetts. Mary and Sam married on May 24, 1948, which began a wonderful and long relationship until Marys passing in 2012. In 1952, with a young family of three, Sam started Circle Electric , creating an opportunity for Sam and Mary to reap the rewards of hard work that they both valued and never hesitated to pursue. Married for 64 years, Sam and Mary raised five children, who in turn raised their seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sam and Mary were active in their childrens education in the area catholic school system. served on boards and fundraising events at Incarnate Word High School, Mount Sacred Heart Boys School and Antonian Prep. Later on, Sam and Mary were active with the Robert E Lee Booster Club. Throughout his life, Sam was active in the Christopher Columbus Society, Unico Italian American Society, International Order of the Alhambra-Bejar, the Knights of Columbus and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Sam was a man of great integrity, strong faith in God, and a man who valued family, with a commitment to fulfilling his calling as a husband and father. Sam and Mary traveled the world, enriching their lives and fulfilling their passion to travel abroad. generously shared their passion with their children and grandchildren on many trips around the world. recovering from stomach cancer in 1994, Sam sold his business to Tommy, his youngest child, and retired from the business. Tommy continues to operate Circle Electric to this day! Sam continued to manage his real estate investments until his death, never stopping to fulfill his obligation to work! He truly believed that hard work, combined with strong Christian values, was our calling on this earth. And he lived it until his passing! Sam was preceded in death by Mary, his wife and true love; his mother and father; his son-in-law, Chuck Griffin; three brothers; one sister, and two brothers-in law. He is survived by his brother Joe and his wife, Patsy; his sisters, Yolanda Granata and her husband, Frank and Rosemarie Pagonis; sister-in-law, Velma Monaco; his only daughter, Rosemary DeHaven and her husband, Greg; oldest son, Sam B. Monaco Jr.; his son, Lawrence D. Monaco and his wife, Sharon; son, Edward C. Monaco and his wife, Martha; son, Thomas A. Monaco and his wife, Cynthia; granddaughter, Julie Pelcak and her husband Mark; his grandsons, Andrew Monaco, Peter Monaco and Stephen Monaco; granddaughters, Paula Monaco, Lauren Monaco, and Adrian Monaco; great grandchild, Emma Mary Pelcak; and numerous nieces and nephews. Obituary: Mary P. Monaco of San Antonio, Texas went home to be with The Lord on 29, 2012. Mary was born on 23, 1920 in Spezzano, Italy to Dominic and Rose Bafaro Pingitore. As a teenager and an only child, Mary came to the United States with her mother to join her father in Worcester, Massachusetts. Mary completed one year of business school after graduating from Assumption High School. Mary met Sam B. Monaco of San Antonio, Texas in 1947 and they married on May 24, 1948, settling down in San Antonio. Together, they started a beautiful family, having five children, one daughter and four sons, from 1949 through 1961. Mary and Sam enjoyed and supported their children throughout their school years, actively supporting them in all of their school activities, school plays and other extra-curricular events, especially sporting events. Mary was also very active with the Parent Teachers Association at Mount Sacred Heart Boys School, Antonian High School and Incarnate Word High School. supporting their children through their college years, they spent the next 32 years traveling throughout the United States and the world. Mary especially enjoyed their many cruises to various destinations around the world. She always said that she gained so much knowledge by experiencing the many cultures of the world. Her desire to travel was definitely inspired by her experience as an immigrant to the United States as a young teenager. Mary was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was active with the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society. She was also active with the Gibbons Literary Club, Castle Hills Womens Club, Sultanas de Bejar Caravan and the Symphony Childrens Sessions. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Charles E. Griffin. She is survived by her husband, Sam, her daughter, Rosemary M. DeHaven and husband, Greg of Spicewood; sons: Sam B. Monaco Jr. of San Antonio; Lawrence D. Monaco and wife, Sharon of Richardson; Edward C. Monaco and wife, Martha of San Antonio and Thomas A. Monaco and wife, Cynthia of San Antonio, seven grandchildren, Julie Pelcak and husband, Mark; Andrew Monaco, Paula Monaco, Peter Monaco, Adrian Monaco, Stephen Monaco, Lauren Monaco and numerous nieces and nephews. Obituary: Pierre Robert Mommessin, 87 of Houston, Texas died 17, 2014. Pierre was born on 10, 1927 in Les Lilas, France to Paul Mommessin and Isabelle Polette Mommessin. He spent his youth in France and completed his Baccalaureate in Science Experimental at the Sorbonne, Paris in 1946. During WWII, he served in the French Forces of the Interior (the Maquis) from 1944 -1946. Following the war, Pierre immigrated to the United States, arriving into the Port of Houston on the Liberty ship, Tillie Lykes. He made his home in New Orleans while attending Loyola University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (1948). In the years following, he attended Texas Agricultural and Mechanical , earning his Masters Degree in Science (1949), and his PhD in Organic Chemistry (1955). He became a citizen of the United States of America on May 13, 1954. He joined Shell Development at the Bellaire Exploration and Production Research , where he had a successful career until his retirement 31 years later. While at the Bellaire Research , he met Molly Brady and they were wed on 14, 1955. Except for a year spent abroad with the Royal Dutch Exploration and Production Laboratory in Rijswijk, Netherlands, they made their home in Houston. retirement, Pierres faith and family continued to be at the center of his life. He volunteered at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church library and the Clayton Library for Genealogical Research. As a hobby, he spent hours researching both his and Mollys family history and reading. His favorite childhood book was Rudyard Kiplings Kim, which started his long time appreciation of India. Pierre was predeceased by his father and mother, Paul and Isabelle, his brother, Andre Mommessin, his sister, Marie Emma Mommessin Baisier, and his grandson, Gregory Francisco Bogran. Pierre is survived by his wife, Molly, and their children and their spouses, Paul Mommessin (Kim), Ann Bogran (Jeff), Claire Allen (Chris) and Jane Kramer (Kyle). He is also survived by his grandchildren Andrew and Ellie Mommessin, Isabelle and Mae Bogran, Brady and Barret Allen, and Olivia and Philip Kramer. Visitation will be , 21st, beginning at 6:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at Earthman Bellaire , 6700 Ferris, Bellaire. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, , 22 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Rd., Houston.
