Obituary: Henry J. Merkner, age 82, of San Antonio, died , 26, 2003, after a lengthy illness. The youngest of nine children, he was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Butler, PA, to Matilda and Albert Merkner. During World War II, he served as a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Merkner spent most of his adult life in the Chicago area, bringing his sharp mind and quick wit to his career as an industrial engineer for various manufacturers. On 28, 1952, he married Helen A. Przychodzin. The Merkners were active members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Mount Prospect, IL, for many years. Following his wifeÂs death on Dec. 13, 2000, Mr. Merkner moved to San Antonio, where he was a resident of Independence Hill Retirement Community and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers and his wife. Survivors include his daughter, Susan A. Merkner, and her husband, Gary W. Neal; two grandchildren, Andrea M. Neal and Garrison M. Neal, all of San Antonio; sister, Martha Lippold of Cabot, PA; brother-in-law, Joseph Przychodzin of Westminster, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross or a charity of the donorÂs choice.

Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Shields. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on , 26 at Kiker-Seale in Colorado City.

JoAnn Merket was born on 31, 1934 in Colorado City to George Irvin Plaster and Alice Elizabeth (Cooper) Plaster. She married the love of her life, Floyd W. "Lindy" Merket on 5, 1957 in Colorado City. JoAnn graduated from the Shannon Memorial School of in San Angelo, Texas on 1, 1955 and was hired by Dr. Charles Root to work for Root Memorial Hospital shortly thereafter. In 1966, JoAnn became the Director of Nurses and remained in this position until she retired on 5, 2005.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd W. "Lindy" Merket, who passed away on May 2, 2015.

JoAnn will always be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and her love of nursing. She cherished her husband Lindy as well as her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, JoAnn loved spending time gardening, reading, and spending time with family.

Survivors include her daughter Dondi Kilpatrick and husband Audie of Lubbock, her son Russell "Rusty" Merket and wife Kim of China Grove, a sister Dixie Lynch and husband Ted of Austin, grand daughters Kendra Merket of China Grove, Lindsey Glasscock and husband Colton of Lubbock, Lauren Szot and husband Jake of Midland, great grandsons Trenten Merket of China Grove and Trayson Glasscock of Lubbock. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Following the services, burial will be in the Colorado City under the direction of Kiker-Seale . The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Mitchell Library, or the Heart of West Texas Museum.

The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation and love to the staff and nurses at Mitchell Hospital, Hospice of Big Spring, Hospice of Lubbock, and in-home caregivers, Alice, Kim, Brenda, Julia, Megan, Amanda, and Delores.

Lindy Merket was born on 17, 1927 in China Grove to Floyd Willis Merket and Celia Mae (Allen) Merket. He married the love of his life, JoAnn Plaster on 5, 1957 in Colorado City.
Lindy proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and was honorably discharged in 1947. He and his brother-in-law, Paul Hunter, operated a local Pontiac automobile dealership in Colorado City for many years until 1961 at which time he entered into the farming, ranching and dairy business. Lindy, along with his brother Eugene Bo Merket, who passed away in 2014, operated Merket Brothers Farm and Dairy until 1972. Lindy was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthea Hunter of Colorado City, a sister, Betty Bills of Binghamton, New York and his brother Eugene Bo Merket of Colorado City.
Lindy will always be remembered for his unwavering love for his family. He cherished his wife JoAnn as well as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and loved people unconditionally. He never had a negative word toward anyone. With his outgoing expressive personality, there was always a sincere, reserved inner compassion for those around him who were less fortunate, sick or hurting. Lindy always displayed his true belief that you should always treat others as you would want to be treated.
Lindy loved the outdoors. He loved being on the farm and taking hunting and camping trips with his family and friends to the mountains of Colorado. He often reflected on stories and memories of hunting and camping with those he loved.
Survivors include his wife JoAnn, daughter Dondi Kilpatrick and husband Audie of Lubbock, son Russell Rusty Merket and wife Kim of China Grove, a brother Russell Lucky Merket and wife Penny of Lampasas, grand-daughters Kendra Merket of China Grove, Lindsey Glasscock and husband Colton of Lubbock, Lauren Kilpatrick and fiancée Jake Szot of Midland, great-grandsons Trenten Merket of China Grove and Trayson Glasscock of Lubbock. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Following the services, burial will be in the Colorado City under the direction of Kiker-Seale . The family requests memorials be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or to a local Hospice organization.
The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation and love to the following care providers who provided care to Lindy. Obituary: Dr. Guido Merkens entered eternal rest on 11, 2012. He was born on May 25, 1927 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, but grew up from age 2-16 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He attended school at the University of Pittsburg; Concordia University, Bronxville, New York; Concordia Seminary and Washington University in St. Louis. He was the founding pastor of Concordia Lutheran and served there for 42 ½ years. Under his leadership, Concordia attained both the largest weekly worship attendance and the largest school in the entire denomination. He wrote seven books and conducted seminars in 49 states for hundreds of thousands of Pastors and lay people. He also served as Vice-President of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for fifteen years and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Concordia Seminary. In his epositioned years, he served as a consultant with Pathway Lutheran Ministries. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Frieda (Klaus) Merkens; his sister, Rhoda Canion; and his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara. He is survived by his children: daughters Karen Ramming and husband Douglas of Austin; Michelle Wood and husband Brian of Austin; Marti Merkens of San Antonio; and son, Guido Merkens, Jr. of San Antonio.
