Obituary: Mary Louise (Morris) Mengden passed over peacefully and happily on the evening of 5, 2012 at the age of 92. She will be missed greatly by those of us she left behind and welcomed happily by her loved ones already in heaven. She loved and was loved by all those she encountered during her joyous and blessed life. She was a truly beautiful woman in body and soul, completely unaware of her beauty and always genuinely admiring of those around her. Mary Louise was interested in everyone she met - a trip to the grocery store took her hours. She knew the names of all her acquaintances, the butcher, baker, and cop on the beat. She knew their childrens names and what was going on in each of their lives. She cared so much for others and they responded with openness and affection. Her magic with young children lasted her lifetime and was founded on unlimited love and a special insight she had into their spirit and minds. With adults, Mary Louise had a humble but perky demeanor. She was gentle as could be to those in some need but with a flash of Irish temper and wit for those of us who needed a spark. Mary Louise was born in San Antonio on 9, 1920 to Ben and Louise (Lamm) Morris and grew up with her brother Ben Buddy in a house her father built on Taft Boulevard near her Lamm and Morris kin. Much of the large familys time was spent on the Lamm Ranch south of town along the San Antonio River. graduating from Incarnate Word , she was introduced to an Army Air Corps pilot cadet at Brooks Field, F. C. Hip Mengden, by Maria Liebscher, her friend and his cousin. Hip and Mary Louise were married in 1943, and continued their inspiring love affair until Hips death in 1997. raised their four sons and their daughter (born between 1944 and 1955) in a house Hip built on Terrell Road in the Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church Parish. Their children attended St. Peters grade school and Mary Louise taught kindergarten and first grade at St. Peters in the 1960s. her children were grown and grandchildren becoming adults, Mary Louise and Hip left her dream home in San Antonio to live in the familys Dittlinger Estate in New Braunfels. In addition to her long standing friends and family in New Braunfels, Mary Louise met and cherished a whole new circle of wonderful friends during those happy years. In 1999, after her beloved husband had died, Mary Louise returned to San Antonio and lived near her children and grandchildren. She aged gracefully, with her winning humor intact, always making new friends as she continued her beautiful journey. She let go of this life on earth peacefully and gently, untroubled and joyous, surrounded by her priest, family, and loved ones. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hip Mengden; her sons, Robert Mengden and Larry Mengden; her parents, Ben and Louise Morris; her brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Marge Morris; her sister-in-law, Suzanne Mengden; and her daughter-in-law, Carol Mengden. She is survived by her sons, Fred Hippy Mengden III and wife, Donna and Dr. Greg Mengden and wife, Christine; daughter, Susan Henry and husband, Gordon; daughter-in-law, Ruby Mengden; grandchildren: Dr. Stephanie Koon and husband, Craig, Ben Mengden and wife, Emily, Sandra Suber, Bobby Mengden, Jr. and wife, Kirsten, Margaret Jones, Tony Mengden, Anna Ramsey and husband, John, Adam Henry, Jesse Mengden; great-grandchildren, Robert Jones, Jr., Tyler Jones, Christopher Mengden, Shelby Suber, Stephanie Suber, Katie Suber, Eric Koon, Ayler Koon, Nick Hoskins, Mia Hoskins, and Jack Hudson Ramsey; and brother-in-law, Joseph Hans Mengden and wife, Carol. Besides many special friends and cousins, Mary Louise leaves behind Mengden and Morris nieces and nephews and their families. Her very special and loving care givers, Janice Brogdon and Cynthia Russ, have become her family as well. Family will be receive friends and family , 10, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough. ROSARY WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 10, 2012 7:00 P.M.
