Obituary: France Arnett Meier, 86, of Arlington, TX, passed away on 17, 2015. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on 11, 1928. France graduated from Big Spring High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Houston and a Doctor of Science from Washington University at Saint Louis. He Joined the UTA faculty as an associate professor in the Industrial Engineering Department in 1965, became a full professor in 1969, and served as department chair from 1969 to 1974. Under his leadership, the faculty of the department developed the graduate program and awarded the first masters degree and the first Ph.D. degree. He was instrumental in this most important step in the life of the department. During his tenure as chair, the department became viable with both graduate and undergraduate programs. For many years, he supervised the industrial engineering capstone course. His dedication to excellence was an inspiration to each of the students who struggled with and passed this most difficult and challenging course. For his commitment to the profession of engineering education, and for his ongoing interest in the growth of the students and for his dedication to the University of Texas at Arlington, the title of Professor Emeritus was awarded on 16, 2001. He served for years as the faculty sponsor of the student organizations American Institute of Industrial Engineers (AIIE), the Engineering honor society Alpha Phi Mu and the Industrial Engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. He was also a founding member of the UTA Student Advising Association. He received an award from the Computer Science Department for fostering the development of the Computer Science Graduate Programs. In 1984, he received the Distinguished Service Award from AIIE. He was a member of the Honor Society of International Scholars Phi Beta Delta, and the Computer Science honor society Upsilon Pi Epsilon. He held offices in the international Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi, the international honor society of science and engineering. He retired in 2000. Beyond his commitment to his career, there is his joy and dedication to his family. He married the former Betty Claire Brock on 20, 1958 and had three children and four granddaughters. His wife and children showed devotion to him and with the values and goals learned from him; his four wonderful granddaughters blossomed in his love for them; and in all the goodness and wisdom he represented to them which, in turn, inspired all four of these wonderful young ladies to attain their high achievements and be admirable persons. Well done, France Meier, you have surely earned your rest. He is survived by his wife, son Kevin Meier, daughters Kathleen Tocco and Kimberly Meier, son-in-law Patrick Tocco, daughter-in-law Suzanne Hemby Meier, grandchildren Katherine Meier, Kristen Meier, Kassidy Tocco and Kayla Tocco. She was born on 29, 1923 in Annona, TX to Richard Coffee and Mattie Pearl Lyles Coffee. Edie graduated from North Dallas High School in 1941. She married Walter Meier on 22, 1946. Edie had a 30-year career in the beer industry; she worked for Lone Star Beer, Miller of Dallas, Ben E. Keith Co., the Budweiser distributorship. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was active with Girls, Inc., Hope Cottage, and the Womens Association of Allied Beverage Industries. Edie had a passion for reading, and loved to spend time with her family. Edie is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Drinkwater and husband Robert Bland; granddaughter, Meredith Drinkwater; nieces and nephews, Sam and Beverly Truett, Martin Meier, Chris Hoynes, Phyllis Macey, Sandra Riggs, Becky Mershawn, Linda Crawford, and Deloris Thompson; and the entire Drinkwater family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter E. Meier; son, Walter Scooter Meier, Jr.; brothers, Richard Coffee, Leslie George, and J.R. Obituary: Arthur Clayton Meier, Colonel USA Army retired. Born in Marshall, MN on 11 1919, and Graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, IA, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, and Master Degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. Served over 30 years in the Army, 3 ½ years during WWII with the 90th Infantry Division, landing on Utah Beach & ending in Czechoslovakia. Graduate of the Field Artillery School, the Army Command, General Staff School, and the Army War . Tours of duty in Panama, Korea, Turkey, Hawaii, Germany and numerous stateside posts. Awards include the Silver Star, 2 Legions of Merit, 2 bronze Stars medals, Army Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation medal. Following retirement from the Army in 1972, he became a citrus grower near Mission, TX for 20 years. During that period he was active in and served as an officer and member in Texas Citrus Mutual, Texas Valley Citrus Committee, Vice president of Edinburg Citrus Association and Chairman of the Texas Citrus Exchange. In 1984 he was King Citrus in Texas Fiesta. A Mason for over 50 years, he was past Master of Mission Lodge 1061, past District Deputy Grand Master for District 40A, past Patron of Mission Chapter 527 OES; a member of both York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies, he was a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason, past Sovereign of South Texas Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine, past President of Ft. Sam Houston Chapter 77 National Sojourners, and a member of such other Masonic Bodies as the Grotto. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Evelyn Messersmith Meier of 69 years. He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen E. Oostenink of Hamilton, NY, son Col. ret Arthur C. Meier II of Huntsville, AL, son Col. ret Frank L. Meier of Albuquerque, NM, 6 GRANDCHILDREN, and 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. Rev.
