Obituary: Obituary for Rajnikant Chamanlal Mehta 29, 1948- 22, 2015 Our loving father and husband, Rajnikant Chamanlal Mehta, set off on his final journey 22, 2015. Even with medical limitations, he chose to live courageously and enjoy every possible moment with his family. He was the most amazing husband, brother, uncle, and friend. But Raj most defined himself by the title of Daddy. His selflessness, courage, strength, and love knew no bounds. Raj took on life with his silly sense of humor, dedication to his family, and a class and style that was all his own. He was a hard-working and selfless man who always put his family first and lived his life with determination and so much love. Nothing brought a smile to his face like spending time with his family, solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles, talking about Bollywood and James Bond movies, forcing people to watch Once Upon a Time in the West, and recalling his adventures around the world. And Raj liked a good adventure. His adventures first started as a child in Jamnagar, India. He was known as the stubborn, troublesome kid who was constantly in the principals office, and who somehow always managed to get away with everything. At the age of 20 he moved to the United States where his journey took him down roads and paths that would forever change his life and bring their own sets of adventures. Rajs adventures took many shapes. He was a mischievous prankster. So many of his friends fell victim to his silly antics. And those antics were always followed by his hearty chuckle. Some of his adventures were grand. He was always searching for his next big trip. He loved the sand between his toes, the warmth of the sun, and was ready for a beach trip with his family at any moment. And other trips took Raj and his family across the world. He loved taking cruises, in particular, because he got to combine his love of travel and culture with the experience of fine dining and getting dressed up. He loved exploring new cultures and new foods with his family. And oh how Raj could enjoy his food. He appreciated a good cup of coffee or a fresh baked pastry with more zeal than anyone could imagine. And sometimes the simplest of lifes joys were the best joys to Raj. He enjoyed lifes ups with great gusto and took on lifes challenges with his sense of humor and appreciation for the value of struggle. Raj worked in the medical field as a nuclear medicine technologist. Even in his career Raj used his talents to help others, to help them along in their journeys. Some people live to work, others work to live, Raj worked to provide his dream for his family. He made sure they were taken care of and supported all of their dreams and goals. Nothing was too big or great for his family. He knew they were capable of anything they set their mind to. Because of that, his familys dreams became his dreams. And he became their greatest supporter and cheerleader. His family was his life. His kids, Sheila and Neal, and wife, Robin, were the center of his world. Raj always wanted to be a daddy. The days his 3 kids were born were defining moments of his life. And his family was the focus of his life. All of his efforts, day in and day out, were centered around the well-being of his family. His beautiful extended family saw the same love, guidance, and joy that he brought to his wife and kids. As friends became part of the Mehta inner circle, they became family. His wife, kids, siblings, nieces, nephews, and kids friends were always in his heart and mind. And his heart was always filled with love. His legacy continues on with his wife Robin, daughter Sheila, son Neal, and honorary daughter Jana Swick-Briseno. His stories will continue to be told by his 6 brothers and sisters: Mr. Jugdish Mehta, Mrs. Sudha Kothari, Dr. Vasant Patel, Mrs. Usha Kamdar, Mr. Piyush Mehta, Mrs. Lina Shah, mother-in-law Ingeborg Phillips, brother in law John Phillips and wife Janice Phillips, their daughter Kelly Jo Phillips, and brother in law David Phillips. His siblings blessed his life with great spouses and many nieces and nephews whom he cherished. Rajs legacy will also continue in the fond recollections shared by his great friends, like Julio and Myriam Ramirez, who were touched by his warmth and laughter. Waiting for Raj on his final journey are his daughter Leena, parents Chamanlal and Savita Mehta, sister Jyoti Mehta and father in law James Phillips. Family and friends celebrated the wonderful and loving life of Raj Mehta at Cook Walden (6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752) on 28, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association. |

Obituary: Mathias (Mat) Mehringer was born at home in the tenements of Yorkville, a suburb of Ney York City on Feb. 9th 1929. He was the second of two children born to Mathias and Elizabeth Mehringer. Around 1932 Mat, along with his mother Elizabeth and sister Ethel traveled abroad to Brener , Germany. This was where his grandparents resided. stayed with Elizabeths parents for about 6 months. His grandfather has a very vicious German Sheppard named Pedruse, and his grandfather was afraid for the grandchildrens safety. Mat took care of that. Upon arriving at the house Mat had a lolly-pop and promptly let the dog have some. The two were inseparable for the remainder of the trip. Neither his mother nor grandfather could discipline Mat while Pedruse was around Mat attended Samuel Gompers Vocational HS from which he graduated on 29, 1947. While there he completed the Vocational High School Course in Radio. Mat also earned the National Honor Society Award for outstanding scholarship, character and service to the school. During this time, Mat and some of his buddies walked, camped and shoveled snow off the trails in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. He told stories of rescuing stranded motorist and campers from the snow engorged roads and trails. Anthonys Nose, at Bear Mountain, was his favorite mountain to hike, and exploring an empty iron mine was part of their routine hike. Another one of his loves was dancing on roller skates with his sister Ethel. won many competitions together. One hobby that he started young and remained with throughout his life was amateur ham radio. His call signs, W2TRB and later K4VZ, were heard around the world. Many in places most people did not know existed. His proficiency in Morse code is the reason he was able to reach so many places. All of Mats life he wanted to serve the people. In of 1947, he enlisted in the US Navy reserve. There he worked in an electronic warfare center. Once that project was completed, Mat went active duty in 1952. His final rank was Electronics Technician, Petty Officer First Class when he was honorably discharged. Mat always loved to tell stories. One such story was while in the Navy. Since he was an ET, and the cooking onboard ship, especially the chicken soup, was lacking, he rigged the PA system and announced, ow here this, now here this, will the duty chicken please report to the kitchen and run thought the chicken soup. 1951, while still on active duty, Mat met his charming wife, Dorothy. She was a nurse working in a hospital in NYC caring for Mats mother, Elizabeth. were married 26th 1952. The marriage lasted for 49 years till Dorothys death on 11, 2010. had three children, Dorothy Ann, Vivian, and Andrew. Mat and Dorothy started their wonderful lifestyle in New York City. Their first daughter, Dorothy was born while Mat was aboard ship passing through the Panama Cannel. This was in 1953 In 1954, after being honorably discharged from the Navy, Mat joined the NYPD. He was very proud of the fact that he was able to meet the requirements that he had to score 10 points higher than the WWII veterans when applying. (This test he passed prior to enlisting in the Navy) In 1955, their second daughter, Vivian was born. Mat was out on patrol at the time received word from his sergeant to report to the station. Mat thought, now what have I done. Upon arriving at the station the sergeant congratulated his on the birth of his daughter. Dorothy never told Mat that she was in labor when he went off to work that day. Mat proudly served the NYPD until 1971 when he was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. He was slowly going blind. Moving his family to Hollywood, Fl in the spring of 1971, he joined The Family of the Stable St Maurice Catholic Church. Fortunately for Mat the church was right across the street. He found jobs working on Marine electronics until he was unable to see to drive safely. He was finally forced to retire in 1981. Being legally blind did not slow Mat down. He and his wife Dorothy traveled extensively in the United States. Where they did white water rafting down the rapids in the Grand Canyon and the Snake River in Idaho, and visited the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks. also traveled abroad to England, Spain and France. Mat loved to serve and so he did. When his daughter, Vivian became a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross, He decided that this was a good idea and did so also. He volunteered as a Papa for many toddlers at the Memorial Regional Hospital daycare center. He would make up and tell them stories. For many of these children, Mat was the only grandfather they ever knew. Mat also was a volunteer teacher at Sterling Elementary school. He taught math and science to the third, fourth and fifth graders. There were times when he would be approached by a high school student, or parent and they would thank him saying that because of his help their child was in an accelerated program or made it into a really good college. But to Mat, his most important volunteering occurred at St. Maurice Catholic Church. Mat was a devout Catholic and a Christian and this was a very important part of his life for over 39 years. Mat was a lifetime board member of the St Maurice Mens Club. If there was a dance going on, you could find him in the kitchen washing pots and pans. Country Fair time he would help assemble the booths and string electrical wires. During the fair he would haul garbage and/or pots of hot continued... |
