Obituary: MARY ANN MCRAE WIFE OF JOHN E. MEYER I was born on 23, 1934, at Ranger, Texas to Hamilton E. McRae, Jr. and Adrian Hagaman McRae. My father, a graduate of The University of Texas School of Law, was practicing law with his uncle John D. McRae in Eastland, Texas, and my mother was a graduate of the of Industrial Arts in Denton, Texas with a degree in Costume Design and taught home economics at Ranger High until she and my father married in 1933. We lived in Eastland until 1936 when we moved to Midland, Texas where my father started a law firm with Frank Stubbeman and Tom Sealy and was engaged in the practice of law there until his death in 1991. My parents built a house at 406 South L Street in 1937. It was on an unpaved street and a cornfield was cleared to build the house. Soon afterwards the Tom Sealy family built a house next door on the corner of L and Holloway Streets. I attended public schools in Midland, graduating Salutatorian from John M Cowden Junior High School and then graduating again as Salutatorian from Midland High School in 1952. I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1955 from Southern Methodist University, majoring in Spanish with a minor in Comparative Literature. At SMU I was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, along with many Spanish and English honoraries. I graduated from SMU Magna Cum Laude in 1955. graduating from SMU, I worked for the law firm of Stubbeman, McRae and Sealy until my marriage to Thomas Menzies Sloan, the son of Thomas Nettleton Sloan and Mary Frances Menzies Sloan, also of Midland. Of that union two children were born, Thomas McRae Sloan and Mary Katherine Sloan in 1961. Thomas Menzies Sloan and I divorced in 1985, and I studied at Midland to obtain an Associate Degree as a Legal Assistant, obtaining my certification as a Certified Legal Assistant in 1987 and began work as a Legal Assistant with the firm of Kerr, Fitzgerald, Kerr and later for the McRae Management Trust. In 1993, I began a relationship with John Edward Meyer who had moved to Midland with his parents from Wichita, Kansas, where he was born. We married at the MacRae Castle, Eileen Donan at Dornie by Kyle, Scotland on 8, 2000, where my ancestors had been christened and married for hundreds of years, attended by two of my MacRae family who now own the castle. John and I the joined the Millenium Gathering of Clan MacRae and traveled with that group for two weeks. Then, when that Clan Gathering was over, we traveled to the Outer Hebrides for two weeks. I have owned and operated a sporting goods business by the name of Comanche Outfitters, selling all manners of hunting, fishing, and camping supplies. For many years, I even held a Federal Firearms License in my own name in the 1970s and 1980s. I was active in work with the Buffalo Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America and served as a merit badge counselor for many years, and with a great deal of research in hiking and canoeing, was able to establish the Grand Comanche War Trail as a hiking trail for the Boy Scouts of America. I have enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and camping for many years, and sold Grumman and Old Town Canoes. I have enjoyed skeet shooting at the Midland Gun Club for many years. My memberships include the Episcopal Church, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, the Clan MacRae Society of North America, of which I am now a Director Emeritus, the Clan MacRae Society of Scotland, the Clan Macleod Society, the Celtic Heritage Club of the Permian Basin, the Scottish Heritage of the Permian Basin, and the Republican National Committee. I am survived by my husband John Edward Meyer, my son Thomas McRae Sloan and his wife Shirley Sutton Sloan and their children Regan Spence, Cavan Spence, Thomas Sloan, Joshua Mims, my daughter Katie Sloan Goggans, her husband Chris Goggans and their children Christopher Cherryhomes, Sarah Cherryhomes, and Cody Goggans and two great grandchildren, Luke and Rose. My brother Hamilton E. McRae III and his wife, Betty Hawkins McRae and their children Beth McRae and husband Bill Doherty, Stephanie and Todd Campbell and their children, Cole and Lauren, and Scott McRae and his children, Alex, Chris and Bradley. My first cousin, Suzanne McRae Clay lives in Jackson, Mississippi and her children Mark and his wife, Dixie, and their family as well as my fathers brother Bryan and Jamie Clay and their children also in Jackson, Mississippi. My other McRae first cousins are Adrienne Doss Ford and her son Robert Lyndle Garrett, and Dudley Doss; also a second cousin Katherine Clancy Olson and her husband Sean Olson of California. I have numerous McRae cousins and double cousins in Arkansas and North Carolina as well as my cousins from the Hagaman family, Betty Lou Hagaman Doebbler and her family, and Patrick Horrigan of New York City. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on , 3, 2016 at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church with a reception following. Obituary: Mariann Ros McRae died , Jan. 28, 2017 in Fort Worth at the age of 88 surrounded by her family. Mariann Adeleith Ros was born May 1, 1928 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was raised in Mississippi and Louisiana, and graduated from high school at St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa, Mississippi in 1945. She attended Louisiana State University, where she met her future husband Richard Guy McRae. were married Oct. 29, 1949. Mrs. McRae lived her adult life in the states of Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. She was a longtime resident of Conroe, Texas, and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a generous and caring supporter of many Church activities throughout her life, and maintained a special relationship with the Ladies of Sacred Heart Workshop and Sewing Circle. Mrs. McRae was an avid golfer and a member of the Ladies Golf Association at River Plantation Country Club for many years. Her favorite hobby was gardening. Her green thumb covered the spectrum of trees to flowers, with a special fondness for roses. She loved taking road trips through the Texas countryside during the wildflower season. Mrs. McRae was the true embodiment of living faith, and was an unending source of love, joy, compassion and understanding for all who knew her. Her faith was a gift she left behind for her family and many friends, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. McRae was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Richard Guy McRae; parents, Joseph Miguel Ros and Sarah Bertille Ros; sisters Desbert Burns and Germaine Isaac; and brothers Joseph M. Ros, Jr., Thomas Ros, John V. Ros, Richard O. Ros, James P. Ros, and Timothy Rory Ros. Obituary: John Edward McRae went to be with the Lord on , 14, 2014. He was born on 6, 1920 in Crescent City, Florida to John Aster McRae and Martha McRae (nee Clayton). He was called Jack by his family. His parents were divorced when Jack was still an infant. He was raised by his mother and his mothers family. He was a good student and an excellent athlete. In high school he was named All-City in basketball for Hillsboro High School in Tampa, Florida. In 1939 he met Daisy Elizabeth Argo at a high school football game and they began to date. married on 28, 1942. Jack worked at JC Penney selling shoes until 1940 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. During the War years he served in England, North Africa, Corsica and Italy. He left the service after the war but re-enlisted in 1947 and was promptly stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He applied and received his commission as an Officer in the new Air Force where he served a combined time of 34 years, retiring in 1974. He moved back to San Antonio and worked in Real Estate with a close friend before retiring completely in the early 1990s. During his Air Force career he was stationed in Germany twice and used every opportunity to visit museums, castles and other historic sites. He loved art and became an accomplished painter. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loyal friend who loved his family and his country. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters; his son Robert Alan McRae; and his beloved wife of 72 years, Daisy Elizabeth Argo McRae. He is survived by his daughter, Carole McRae Richards; granddaughter, Laura Michelle Richards; Grandson-in-law, Doel F. González; great-grandsons, Sean Anthony Carter and Diego Gianni González; great-granddaughter Devonne Laurante Hyde; nephew Derrill A. Argo, his wife Helen and their children; niece Lynn Argo Walters and her family; and other nieces, nephews, and family friends. The family will receive friends , 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Porter Loring North. Graveside service with Military Honors , 25 at 10:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National , 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. Obituary: Harrell Jerald "Jerry" McRae of Houston was born on 28, 1937. He went to join the Lord on 24, 2017. He died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness. He was 79 years old. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Leon Noel and Rosa Belle McRae, brother Paul McRae, and sister Marcille Carbone. Jerry is survived by his wife Dorothy and sister Jeanne Wootters. He is also survived by his children, Stewart McRae, Paul McRae, Annette O'Hare and husband Daniel. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Daniel McRae and wife Kelley, Kevin McRae, Patrick O'Hare and wife Abbey, Casey O'Hare, and Connor O'Hare, He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Sadie McRae, Kelsa McRae, Ainsley McRae, and Braden McRae. He is also survived by various cousins, nieces and nephews. Primarily raised by his mother who instilled in Jerry a love of the Lord Jesus Christ. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior as a young boy and was baptized into the church at the age of 5 years old. He lived a life of devotion to his faith. At the age of 18 Jerry graduated from Reagan High School and enrolled in the National Guard where he served for 8 years. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. On May 23, 1957 he married Dorothy Brannon who became his partner, companion, and the love of his life for the next 59 years. Jerry was a natural born entrepreneur. He began his work career at the age of 8 by selling homemade trinkets to his neighbors. He went on to have many other jobs in his youth. An accomplished typist from an early age Jerry was given a job operating an Adressograph machine for Foleys department store. He later typed manifests for Lykes Steamship Co. As an adult he went on to have a successful career in the industrial heating industry. Starting as a salesperson for A.P. Green Refractories, first in Dallas, then in Shreveport Louisiana, he learned the technology of the industry in which he would later become a noted innovator. Returning to Houston in 1970 he started M&M Furnace which would pioneer new techniques of pollution abatement in incineration. Over the course of his career he designed and built hundreds of furnaces of all types for clients around the globe. The last 20 years of his career he pioneered a new way to process used oil filters. His patented technology has been responsible for recycling millions of tons of steel and oil, saving it from polluting our nation's landfills. A generous man with a radiant smile that lit up the room, Jerry was free with his money. He gave to many causes and was always willing to help friends in need with personal no interest loans or just a hand up. He would help friend and stranger alike. He was a lusty eater and loved to spend time out with his family and friends enjoying life to the fullest. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was a gifted singer and he freely shared the gift of his voice with the world. He always sang in the choir at church and was a member of a gospel quartet in his youth. He especially loved to sing duets with Dorothy, the love of his life, whose alto was a perfect complement to Jerry's tenor. Children were his greatest joy. In addition to his own kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, he and Dorothy helped mentor many children through their involvement in youth programs at church. Everyone loved "Teddy" as he became known, dubbed so by his granddaughter Casey because she thought he was as soft and tender as a teddy bear. He gave great hugs. Obituary: Edith LaVirge McRae born May 7, 1932 passed away on , 6, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Maxwell McRae and daughter, Terri Lorraine McRae. Edith (Virgie) is survived by her daughters, Patti Brooks and husband, Al and Corri Tabone and husband Rick; grandchildren, Hillary Barra and husband, Kevin, Tyler Brooks, and Emily Gibson; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Micah and Jesse Barra. In addition to being a devoted mother and loving wife, Virgie also loved her two kitties, us and Cleopatra dearly. She was an avid birder and spent many hours at the beach or on the ocean. Her other loves were gardening and genealogy. She had a kind sweet generous spirit and will be missed by many. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on , 10, 2014 at Katy , 23350 Kingsland Blvd. in Katy. A family graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on , 11, 2014 at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1015 Antione in Houston followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peters United Methodist Church, 20775 Kingsland Blvd. in Katy with Rev. Scott Rawlings officiating. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite animal charity. |

Obituary: Daisy Elizabeth Argo McRae, age 91, of San Antonio, went to be with the Lord , 18, 2014. She was born on her mothers birthday, 26, 1923. Daisy was named by her beloved Aunt Daisy Bucci of Jacksonville, Florida. She met John McRae, better known as Jack, in 1939 and they were married 28, 1942. Jack and Daisy traveled the world during Jacks Air Force career, retiring in San Antonio in 1974. She was always fun to be with, a great conversationalist, compassionate and caring. She loved life and all of her family fiercely and was admired by everyone that knew her. She was a true Southern lady who never met a stranger. Daisy was preceded in death by her mother, Myrta S. Argo; brothers, J.W. Argo and Richard Argo; nephews, Kent Argo and Richard Argo II; and her beloved son Robert Alan McRae. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Lt. Col. John E. McRae, USAF (Ret.); daughter, Carole Leigh Richards; granddaughter, Laura Michelle Richards and husband Doel F. González; great-grandchildren, Sean Anthony Carter, Devonne Laurante Hyde, and Diego Gianni González; nephew, Derrill A. Argo and wife Helen Christie and their children; and niece, Lynn Argo Walters and her family. The family will receive friends on , 28, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
