Obituary: Sidney Doris McDowell, age 86, passed peacefully 21, 2015 at her home in Splendora, TX. She was born on 28, 1928 in Blevins, Arkansas to Sid and Mamie Mouser. Doris graduated May 1, 1947, from Blevins High School in Blevins, AR. relocating to Houston, she began a career with Harris in 1953, later retiring to Houston, TX in 1986, proudly providing the county 33 years of service. Doris enjoyed day trips to Surfside, gambling trips to Louisiana, and her love of quilting which she passed on to her daughter Carolyn. Doris was proceeded in death by her parents, Sid and Mamie Mouser; and son, Sidney R. Spicer Ronnie. She is survived by her loving children Carolyn A. Walker and husband Johnnie, son Raymond E. Spicer, Sherry Orsburn and husband Jerry. Loving Granny to Brandy Oliver and husband Joseph, Wendi Bothmann and husband Dan, Teresa Spicer, Mamie Spicer, Amanda Dillard, Amanda Sanchez and husband Louis, Anthony Powell and wife Jennifer, Sean Powell and wife Kelsie, Marlon Orsburn and wife Terri, Shelia Conklin and husband Bryan, and Jerry Lynn Orsburn. Burial will be in Memorial Park , The family will greet friends at the from 6-8pm. Shirley Jean McDowell was born 14, 1937 to Frank James and Irma Greenlee in St. Joseph, Missouri. Shirley is a 1956 graduate of Lafayette High School and also attended Missouri Western later in her life. She enjoyed school and became a substitute teacher. Shirley and Robert (Bob) McDowell were high school sweethearts and were married in 1957 and were together for 33 and a half years. Shirley was a retail clerk for many years until retirement. She lived in St. Joseph until 2009 when she moved to Amarillo to live with her daughter, Annette Richards. Shirley loved history of any kind and from any location in the world. Movies, archeology and artifacts were her passion. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. Shirley loved the Lord and was Pentacostal in her faith and was a dedicated Democrat. Family meant the world to her and she will be deeply missed. Shirley is survived by a daughter, V. Obituary: Benbrook -- Rosa Mae McDowell, 87, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away , 27, 2016, after a brief illness. Rosa was born 17, 1928, in Goodlett. She will be remembered for her compassion, quick wit and strong convictions. Being an avid Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan, one of her greatest pleasures was watching them on television. Listening to Bluegrass music was part of her daily agenda and always made her smile. She loved to travel, especially to Bluegrass festivals. However, nothing gave her more joy than being surrounded by her family celebrating birthdays, special occasions and holidays. Rosa attended Birchman Baptist Church and was a servant for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Rosa will be missed, as she was a blessing and shining light to everyone who knew her. She has now been welcomed by Jesus Christ into her eternal home. Rosa was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hugh. Obituary: Robert E. Bob McDowell, age 86, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on , 30, 2014 with his family by his side. Bob taught at the University of Texas at Arlington for over twenty years as Professor Emeritus. Before that, he taught at The University of Minnesota and at The University of Denver. He was also a Fulbright Professor at The University of Guyana for a year. He retired and moved to a farm in East Texas briefly, then to Sun City, Georgetown when the retirement community opened in the 1990s. Roberts expertise and roots were in the Trust industry in the Texarkana area. He worked as a radio announcer for 10 years. Served 2 years in the 49th Lone Star Texas National Guard and 4 years in the U. S. Air Force Reserve. Also held a private pilot license. Robert devoted his life to his wife and family. Obituary: Robert Paul McDowell, of Liberty Hill, Texas, passed away on , 16, 2011, at home with his family by his side. He was 86. Born 23, 1924, in Venice, Illinois, Robert was the son of Henry and Eva (Hand) McDowell. A 20 year veteran and a retiree of the U.S. Army, Mr. McDowell also served in the Merchant Marines. his retirement, Robert worked for the Veterans Administration and the U.S Postal Service. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rhea (Campbell) McDowell; his sons, Robert Paul McDowell, Jr. & wife, Charryn and Gary McDowell & wife, Pam; his grandchildren, Jeremy Lindholm, Manndie McDowell, Carole McDowell, Shawn McDowell and Cristen Dry Calvert. He has 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. services for will be held at 1:00 p.m., , 21, 2011 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas. Burial with full military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks . Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., , 20, 2011, at the Capital Parks . Obituary: Robert Neil Bob McDowell, Jr, 90, passed away 23, 2008. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was born 20, 1917 in Bluffton, IN. He was schooled in Fort Wayne and worked there during the Great Depression. As a student he loved chemistry and soap-box racing. He moved to San Antonio two weeks after Pearl Harbor and was stationed at Brooks Field, AFB during WWII were he served as a photographer. He continued in the photography business after the war.He enjoyed music and playing classical piano. He met his future wife, Lois MacDougall, at a dance at the Episcopal Church at the University of Texas. recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He worked as a salesman for many years before starting his own business, Alamo Lighting Service, Inc. He made sales calls throughout the Hill Country and South Texas and enjoyed meeting his customers and driving. He was extremely active and continued to work, climbing ladders well into his seventies. He was a dedicated father who cared for his first daughter during his wifes prolonged illness in the early 1960s. He became a father again at the age of 51. He was always encouraging and eagerly helped his youngest daughter practice the game of tennis and shared his interests in photography and cars. He was active in St. Marks Episcopal Church and enjoyed spending time with friends at supper clubs and retreats at Laity Lodge. He also enjoyed spending time outside and taking care of his yard. He was always kind and gentle, and rarely complained. He continued his sweet demeanor and gracious attitude even in the final stages of Alzheimers. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Neil McDowell Sr. and his mother, Zelpha J. Brandyberry. He is survived by his wife, Lois McDowell, of San Antonio; his sister, Sylvia Marsh of Lynchburg, VA; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Blake Vinyard of Houston, TX; his granddaughter, Lindsay Vinyard; his daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and J. Christopher Frey of Doylestown, PA, and his grandson, James McDowell Frey. Inurnment in the church columbarium at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to the St. Cecilia Guild Music Fund at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 315 E. Pecan, San Antonio, TX 78205. |
