Obituary: Margaret C. McCarty, born in Yoakum, TX, 11, 1913, passed away on 29, 2008 at the age of 94, at Sterling House Assisted Living . She was the lone survivor of her generation. She retired from Southern Pacific Railroad in 1978, after 36 years as a clerk. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union, St. Patrick Catholic Church Altar Society, Business and Professional Women, and St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two sisters and a niece. Survivors are nieces, Kerry Joe Macaitis, Janice Charles Brooks of San Antonio; and nephew, Ray Diana Jones of Dale, TX. Also surviving are three grandnieces, two grandnephews, two great-grandnieces and two great-grandnephews. A special thanks to Odyssey Hospice and their staff for their loving care. |

Obituary: Major Joseph F. McCarty, USAF(Ret), age 88 passed away on , 12, 2012 in San Antonio. He was born 4, 1923 in Lafollette, Tennessee to Squire and Cora McCarty. He graduated high school but immediately, while under age enlisted in the Air Force. He retired after 20 years of service. As part of his military service he was the Air Force Attache to the United States Embassy in Paris, France. While stationed in Paris as a communication officer he received a letter of commendation from Admiral Joseph N. Wenger for his intelligence work with the National Security Agency (NSA). Admiral Wenger, alongside others in the military intelligence community who were credited with breaking the Japanese communication code before the end of World War II. Early in his Air Force career Joe developed a love of flying and was a very competent pilot while attaining his commercial and instrument ratings. He logged over 2700 hours in 12 different airplanes as a private pilot and never even dinged a prop. He was a member of the Quite Birdmen, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He logged many flight hours with his close friends Dr. Fred Ritzinger and Col. Claude (Mac) McRaven. retiring from the Air Force he and his beautiful wife Betty started a career in commercial and residential real estate and opened McCarty Real Estate and Motel across the street from Lackland AFB. would provide free motel service to anyone buying a home from them. As a result of this they set numerous sales records and were among the top real estate producers in San Antonio. Due to rising income tax rates they sold their business in 1977. From their home on Sunflower Lane and ranch in Bulverde, they loved hosting numerous social events for family and friends. Joe and Bettys next venture took them into independent oil and gas production and real estate speculation. produced oil and gas wells and became active in the Illinois oil and gas association. Joe continued to buy and sell local properties during this time. From Joes military background he possessed an uncanny ability to capture and understand the finest details of a business transaction. He lived by one creed honesty and integrity always come first. Joe was an incredibly generous man, an awesome Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend always providing a listening ear and an abundance of unconditional love. His private life was lived such that he always put others before self. He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 46 years Betty; and three sisters. Joe is survived by his son, Joseph F. McCarty II (Joey) and his wife Nita; two grandchildren, Joseph F. McCarty III (Trey) and Kelsey McCarty Jack and her husband Josh; niece Beverly Koebrich; grand-nephew Brian Bartley and several other nieces and nephews in Illinois, Florida, and Tennessee. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., , 21, 2012 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. SERVICE THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2012 1:00 P.M.
