Obituary: Alexander M. Martin Jr., known to his many friends as Alex, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on 31st following a brief illness. Grandpa Alex, who was 87, was born on 21, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Dr. Alex M. and Lovell Martin Sr. graduating from Ottawa Hills High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Like so many of his generation, his 19th birthday found him in the service and a long way from home. Alex was a cryptographer and was initially stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii. He was eventually transferred to Midway where he spent many months. Grandpa was quite an athlete and loved basketball and tennis. He always loved to tell the story that on the very night before he was to be transferred to Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, he learned that he had been picked to play basketball for the Army Airways Communications Service in the Pacific league. He happily caught the first flight the next morning back to Honolulu! the War, Alex enrolled at the University of Michigan where he pledged Alpha Delta Phi . In 1949 in made the varsity basketball team, earning his letter in 1950 with a buzzer beater against Purdue in Big 10 competition. His years in Ann Arbor at his beloved alma mater were some of the best in his life. Alex was a life-long Michigan fan who cheered for the maize and blue for another 63 years. He was a long-time member of the M Club for Varsity Lettermen, the Victors Club and the University of Michigan Alumni Association. He helped form the Dallas Michigan Club and faithfully cheered on the Wolverines along with other Dallas Alumni and fans on many Fall afternoons at the Fox and Hound where he will be greatly missed. graduation from Michigan in 1950 he went to work for Baker Furniture in Michigan and then New York and eventually made his way to Highland Park where he raised a family and built so many life-long friendships. Alex was a member of Saint Michaels & All Angels Episcopal Church where he served as an acolyte for many years. He was a long time member of Dallas Country Club and was a regular playing member of the morning tennis gang until he was 87. Alex previously served on the Board of Governors of DCC and he will be missed by all of his many friends at the club. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Leigh Martin Steindorf, son-in-law, Michael C. Steindorf III and the apple of his eye, grand-daughter Eleanor Bedford Steindorf of Highland Park. Grandpa will also be missed by the larger Steindorf family who shared 23 summers with him at Macatawa on Lake Michigan and many good times in between. Uncle Alex will also be missed by his beloved extended Michigan family including his niece Vicki Kimball and nephew Parker Tuthill and their families, all of Grand Rapids. Obituary: Albert C. Martin, (A.C.) died on 1, 2015 in Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by parents, Myrtle M. Martin and Clifton P. Martin; beloved sister, Dorothy M. Juenger and brother-in-law, Edward C. Juenger; and brother, Cliff Duchouquette. A.C. was born in Houston on 25, 1928. He is survived by his niece, Deborah J. Bowers and husband, Gregory Bowers of Greensboro, N.C.; his nephew, Randy Juenger and wife, Clara Juenger of Belton, Texas; nephews, Paul Duchouquette of Manhattan Beach, California, John Duchouquette and Tommy Duchouquette of El Paso, Texas; great-niece, Sarah Juenger-Davis of Austin, Texas; and great-nephews, Shawn Juenger of Austin, Texas, Matthew Bowers of Greensboro, N.C., and Brent Bowers of Osaka, Japan. He is also survived by cousins, Bill and Wanda Elstner, and their daughters, Cheryl Elstner-Brown and Linda Elstner-Largent, and special neighbors, Donna Webb and Eva Graham, as well as many other special people too numerous to mention. A.C. graduated from Jefferson Davis Senior High School in 1946. He worked at Foleys while attending high school and the University of Houston. In mid 1949, he moved to San Antonio to learn the dental supply business at Jahn Dental Supply, owned by aunt and uncle Louis and Billie Jahn. Later that year, he returned to Houston and worked for Carpenter Paper . He was drafted in 1950, serving in Japan on Hokkaido Island before transferring to Korea during the Korean War in Dec. 1951 to Service Co. 179th Inf. Regiment and being honorably discharged from the army in Sept. 1952. A.C. enjoyed many trips to the Korean War Veterans Reunion in Wisconsin each year. In , 1952, A.C. began his career with United Gas Pipe line in Houston. He retired from Entex after completing forty-seven plus years in , 2000. Although retired, A.C. continued to maintain the many friendships he made during his career until the end of his life. Honorary pallbearers are his many friends at Entex. He was a valued and loyal member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Korean War Veterans Assn., The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 45th Division Assn. of the 179th Infantry Assn. Visitation will be held on , 4, 2015, from 5-8 pm, with a rosary service beginning at 7 pm, at Pat H. Foley . A celebration of A.C.s life will be held on , 5, 2015, at 11 am, also at Pat H. Foley . Obituary: MARTIN Albert R. Martin peacefully passed away on , 3, 2012 at the age of 95. Born 9, 1916 in Havana, Cuba to Manuel and Maria Alonzo Martin (Ruffino) of Spain, Albert emigrated with his mother from Cuba to Florida at the age of 9 after the death of his father. settled in San Antonio where Albert graduated from Fox Tech. He eventually purchased the company he worked for which made chlorine bleach. Later he formed a partnership with his good friend, Marvin Rubinstein, and together they expanded the business into Gulf Pool Equipment Co. selling in the US, Mexico and Puerto Rico. With his many years of membership and service in the West Side Lions Club, Lion Albert easily qualified as Dean of the Club. During his active tenure, his charisma and helpfulness readily endeared him to everyone he met and inspired others with the same gusto to contribute to their fellow man. He initiated the Sight Conservation and Examination program, the Diabetes Screening program at local stores and the Thanksgiving Dinner at the Villa De Amistad Retirement . As a natural cartoonist, he used this gift in helping write the West Side Lions Club Gossiper newsletter. He was a Eucharistic Minister at his church, St. Anthony de Padua, and at a nearby nursing home and participated in many church activities. Albert was a kind, loving and generous man who always had a positive outlook on life. He possessed a gift for bringing joy and laughter to others through his playful sense of humor. We love you and will miss you! He always humbly credited the success he had in life to God the Almighty Father. The family is especially grateful to the loving care given by Dr. Paul Smith, Dr. David Espino, Julie Franklin, Linda Daniels, Eleanor Nypaver with Summit , Christus Hospice, Peaches Hall and her caring and devoted staff at Colonial Gardens and Reverend William Collins, M.S.C.
