Obituary: Gladys Anderson Marple, 95, passed away on 6, 2015. She was born in Brockton, MA and raised in Weymouth, MA where she met her loving husband of 69 years, Stanley Marple Jr. Gladys graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in political science and moved to Houston in 1941. Gladys raised two sons, Charles and Melvin. She very much enjoyed living in The Netherlands for a two year assignment with Shell and from there traveled with her family throughout Europe. Her love of traveling the world continued throughout her life. Gladys was a longtime member of Riverside UMC in Houston where she sang in the choir and served on many committees, giving generously of her time and talents. She actively volunteered with her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, hosting galas and providing books for Texas Childrens Hospital. Gladys also volunteered with the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to shop, play bridge and plan parties. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband and two sons. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Joan Moore of CA and Diana Robinson of PA, two granddaughters, Sarah Hubbell of Katy, TX and Victoria Cobb of Richmond, VA, and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate Gladys life will be held at 3:00 on , 14th at Riverside UMC, 4920 Cullen Blvd., Houston, TX 77004. Donations in honor of Gladys may be made to the Alzheimers Association. |

Obituary: Patricia Ann Marotta, 84, passed away on 30, 2017, surrounded by her children. In Patricias daily life she modeled how easy it was to be kind, showed us the importance of forgiveness, and the necessity of loving one another. Her childhood was spent in Austin, Texas, where she eventually met the love of her life, Frank, and later made Dallas their home. Patricia was devoted in her Catholic faith as a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she and her beloved Frank led by example and raised their six children in the church and adjoining school. Patricia fervently served as a member of the Ladies Society of St. Pius for several decades where she assisted her church and community. She worked for Gold Coin Vending at Bishop Lynch High School from 1978 to 2008, where she offered smiles and quick wit to the thousands of students who came through the lunch line. Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and her son Martin. She is survived by her beloved daughters Lorraine Marotta, Julie Einstein and spouse Fred, Rose Blessing and spouse Thomas; beloved sons Louis Marotta and spouse Dale Switzer, Mark Marotta and spouse Karen; her treasured grandchildren Kristina Trujillo and spouse Kris, Daniel Einstein, Charlie Einstein, Kyle Blessing, Ryan Switzer and Heather Miller; her brother Mickey Walker and wife Carolyn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Patricia led by her actions, not by her words. She was incapable of being unkind to anyone. She will be remembered for her strong love of family, her patient and resilient character, her warm and gentle smile, and her unconditional compassion for others. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas at 10:00am on , 5, 2017, with a Rosary beginning at 9:30am. Celebrated by Fr. Guzman. Obituary: MAROTTA John Anthony Marotta, Jr., age 90, died peacefully at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio on , 14, 2010. Mr. Marotta was born on 29, 1919 in San Antonio, TX to John Anthony Marotta Sr. and Victoria Madrid Marotta. Mr. Marotta worked for various companies namely Kargl Aerial Surveys, Studer Photo Co., Baker Optical Co. and the San Antonio Arsenal before being inducted into the Army at Fort Sam Houston in 1941. While in the Army, Mr. Marotta served during WWII, in the European Theatre of Operations in five major campaigns and received the ETO ribbon and a star for each campaign served as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He worked for the US Postal Service from 1947 until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Marotta married Hortencia Resendez on 14, 1950 and would have celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on the day of his death. Mr. Marotta is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Catherine Marotta Estrada and his brother, Albert Ernest Marotta. Mr. Marotta is survived by his wife, Hortencia of San Antonio; son, Edward David Marotta Sr. and wife, Margaret of San Antonio; and daughter, Sister Hilda Marotta of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Edward Marotta, Jr., Giovanni Marotta of San Antonio, and Andrea Marotta of Austin; great grandchildren, Daniel Huerta, Kayleigh W. Obituary: Kenneth Austin Maroney peacefully passed into Jesus’ arms on , 19, 2016, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Kenneth was born 21, 1929, in Ben Franklin, Texas to Ila Mae and Robert Maroney and grew up in Boxelder, Texas. He graduated from Annona HS as Valedictorian at age 16, attended Paris Jr. , and came to the University of Corpus Christi in 1948 on a basketball scholarship. Although he was a retired professor in the of Education, Kenneth first made his mark on the University of Corpus Christi as a member of the 1949-1950 basketball team, which ended the season with an unequaled 25-1 record. He was inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Honor in 2002. a successful career on the court at UCC and graduating with a double major in education and English, Kenneth joined the United States Air Force and served from 1952-1956. While serving our country, he earned a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Texas and afterwards, an Ed.D., in counseling and professional administration from North Texas State University. In 1957, he began his career at UCC as an instructor and assistant basketball coach. Kenneth’s career at the University spanned more than 50 years. His professional experience spread beyond South Texas. He was active in the Professional Staff NDEA Counseling and Guidance Institute at North Texas in the summers of 1963 and 1964 and he served as a consultant for the United States Office of Education from 1965-1967 on the issue of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Kenneth’s impact on the University has been felt at every level: from his duties as dean of students and professor of psychology to serving as president from 1969 to 1973. During his presidency, Hurricane Celia struck the campus, wiping out most of the University’s wooden buildings and clearing the way for the renovation and expansion that is still going on today. Kenneth was also highly instrumental in UCC’s conversion from a private institution to part of the Texas A&M University System. While president, he was instrumental in obtaining NCAA certification for the University, laying the foundation for today’s revived athletic program which has many men’s and women’s teams competing in NCAA Division I sports. retirement he remained active with Island athletics, the Alumni Association, and the Tarpon Foundation. Whether on the athletic field, in the classroom, or as an administrator, Dr. Maroney was a shining example of the University’s excellence for more than five decades. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty, sons Dave (Joan) and Mark (Betsy), grandchildren Ross (and his mother Kimberly), Erica (Marc), Ryan (Lauren), Nico (Danielle), Daniel, and Courtney (Mitchell), great grandchildren Gabriela, Ashton, Mia, Parker, Emily, Marek, and Riley, brother Bob (Judy), brother-in-law Glen (Berta) Floyd, caregiver Deborah Freeman and numerous nieces, cousins and many basketball friends.
