Obituary: Andrée Eleanor Houssiere Macaluso of Jennings, Louisiana and Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home with family on 6, 2016. She was born on 11, 1926, at home in Jennings, the sixth of seven children of Charles R. and Louise Gelu Houssiere. As a Graduate of Central School and Jennings High School, she continued her education by receiving her Bachelors Degree from Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, Texas and her Masters Degree from the University of Texas in Austin. It was in Austin, Texas at the Newman Hall Dinner that she met the dark, wavy haired man with whom she would share her life and love for 54 years, Anthony A. Macaluso. God and family were the cornerstones of her life, whether they were in Chicago, Jennings or Austin. It was she that provided the stability of the home and shaped a family that thrived on mutual love and respect throughout her entire life. And a little Les saiz les Bon Temp Roullet never hurt. Summer vacations were always a special time for Andrée and her family. A station wagon loaded with a luggage carrier top and a diaper bucket strategically placed set the stage for trips from coast to coast. There was always time to take an extra trip to Jennings or Estes Park Colorado with her sister Helene and her family. She was the last of the generation of Old Louisiana that routinely spoke French and had a direct tie to the original immigrants families of France to build Louisiana. She was the consummate Southern Lady. She loved to play bridge with her regular group and to attend regular meetings with her friends of St. Monicas Guild to discuss and debate matters of faith. Her true love was cooking. She would always pick up a cookbook on her travels and pour over it to find new ways to feed her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Albert Macaluso, Sr., and her youngest son, Terry Macaluso. She is survived by her five children, Andy A. Macaluso, Jr., Michael A. (Maria) Macaluso, Kenneth C. (Susie) Macaluso, Michelle (Steve) Gunnell and Melissa A. Macaluso; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. |
