Obituary: McFARLAND, Cecil Lloyd, born 25, 1930 entered into eternal life on 15, 2014 while under the loving care of McKendree Village and Alive Hospice. Known as Reverend Mac by his church family, Mr. Mac by his students and just Mac by all who crossed his path, he was blessed by God with many gifts. Reverend Mac used all of those gifts to the best of his ability to witness with compassion and understanding to glorify God. Mac loved and cherished the life and memory of his parents, John Marshall and Sephie Edmonds McFarland. He grew up in Clinton, Tennessee where he graduated from high school. One of eleven siblings, his brother, Ralph, and sisters, Reba Owens and Reva Walker still survive. Reverend Mac is married to the former Ann Marie Karashay of Saugerties, NY. She has been his devoted wife and caregiver for the past 45 years. Although Mac required a great deal of care during his extended illness, he always maintained a positive attitude throughout his life. Following high school Mac enlisted in the United States Air Force, after his service he entered Carson Newman and after graduation he attended Drew University where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity. He was ordained by the Methodist Church and was commissioned as a Chaplain in the United States Air Force. Following his Chaplaincy he pastored churches for 38 years in both Tennessee and New York State. Mac retired from pastoring in 2005 after serving 14 years as pastor of the First Congregational Church in Crossville, TN. He also taught learning disabled students for 23 years for Northern Weschester (BOCES) in Briarcliff Manor, New York. He was considered to be a very successful teacher. He contributed greatly to the developing field of special education and retired from teaching in 1991. Mac also taught Sociology at Ulster Community in Stone Ridge, New York. McFarlands sense of duty and love for his country translated into his public service and leadership responsibilities. He was elected to the Board of Education for the Saugerties Central School District. He also served on the Ulster Board of Cooperative Educational Services. In addition he was also past Commander of the American Legion in Ulster , NY. He served several years on the staff of the New York State American Legion Boys State Program. While serving the First Congregational Church in Saugerties, NY, he was President of the Saugerties Area Council of Churches. Mac was inducted as a lifetime member of the Saugerties Exempts Volunteer Fire Department and also served as the Chaplain for the Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of AARP and was a trainer on the AARP statewide training team for the State of Tennessee. His leadership and volunteer efforts have been recognized by the Fair Park Senior , Crossville, TN where he was honored with the Cumberland Senior Citizen of the Year in 1999. He was a member and past president of the Lake Tansi Exchange Club, Crossville, TN. He and his wife, Ann Marie, were honored with the Book of Golden Deeds award and reception given by the Crossville and Lake Tansi Exchange Club in 2001. Reverend McFarland served on the Board of Directors of the Exchange Club Stephens for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Livingston, TN. He also served as Hospice Volunteer Chaplain from 1996-2000 for Hospice of Cumberland where his wife was the Executive Director. God blessed Mac with five children, four with Barbara Ann Tobey, Falmouth, MA, Marjorie (Bill) VanErmen of Concord, NH, Larry (Sue) McFarland of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Leanne (Mike) Schmidt of Falmouth, MA, and Wayne (Kim) McFarland of Harvard, MA, and one child with Ann Marie, a son, John (Amber) McFarland, Sr. of Goodlettsville, TN. There are fourteen surviving grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Our heartfelt thanks to all those who took such tender loving care of our loved one. These difficult times were made bearable because of your compassion. Reverend McFarland was a member of the Hermitage United Methodist Church and attended Chapel Services while at McKendree Village. Obituary: Reverend Bob McFarland, age 77, went home to be with the Lord early morning 26. Its fitting that Bob went to heaven on a morning. A Baptist Minister, Bob spent many mornings teaching and talking about Jesus to church congregations including but not limited to Hinkle Baptist of Lookout Mountain, Georgia New Baptist of Trenton, Georgia and Whitwell First Baptist Church of Whitwell, Tennessee. He is now witnessing first hand what hes been preaching about for over five decades. Bob is preceded in his final destination by the love of his life Jewel Allen McFarland. Bob and Jewel leave a legacy of Five Children, Fifteen Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild (on the way). Their children and grandchildren are: Steve, Jacob and Addison McFarland of Athens, Alabama; David, Madaline, Clayton and Carter McFarland and Conrad and Maddie Ratchford all of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Becky, Toby and Christian Robinson of West Frankfort, Illinois along with Holly and Kevin Vardeleon of St. Louis, Missouri & Hayley and Isaiah Barnfield of Lookout Mtn; Joanna, Andy, Anna, Allison, Drew and John Austin Roberson of Greenwood, South Carolina; and Danny, Hope, Benjamin, Noah and Chloe McFarland of Jonesboro, Illinois. Bobs legacy also includes the countless lives that he has touched in his many years of ministry. Bob may be best remembered for his role at Bethel Bible Village in Hixson , Tennessee. Bob and Jewel were house parents at Bethel shortly after they were married while he was a student at Tennessee Temple University where he received his Bachelors degree. He later became the Director of Childrens Services and then served as the Executive Director from 1990 till 2002. His friend and Co-worker at Bethel, Gary Behler, said Ive never met anyone with a bigger heart for children. Bob not only had a big heart for children but for people in general. He would tell you he had a big heart because of his Texas upbringing. A self-proclaimed drug store cowboy, he was very proud of his Lone Star state roots. Davy Crockett left Tennessee and went to Texas to help at the Alamo. Bob returned the favor by moving to Tennessee and doing his best to make the state a better place. He finished his working career at Covington Seminary where he received his Masters and Doctorate and then served as Dean of Extensions. Most who knew Bob loved Bob. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and his caring nature, but most of all for his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Though well miss him dearly we rejoice in knowing that he is celebrating and worshiping Jesus face to face with his Precious Jewel and his parents Kirby and Marion McFarland by his side. Please join us as we honor him and celebrate his home going , 2nd at 1 PM at Abbas House in Hixson ,Tennessee with Dr. Ron Phillips, Rev. Toby Robinson and Rev. Andy Roberson officiating. There will also be a time of visitation, fellowship and Bob and Jewel story telling at Abbas House in the Faith Building following the graveside service . Obituary: Sue McFarlan, 82, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, died 14, 2011 after many months of struggling with diabetes, kidney failure and a heart condition. She worked at the Hamilton National Bank and as a receptionist and lab technician for Dr. Langston on Signal Mountain. Her main lifes work and joy was that of dedicated wife of 59 years , mother to her four daughters and grandmother to her grandchildren; as well as a faithful volunteer and giver to the community. She was a Red Cross volunteer for 35 years at the information desk at Parkridge Hospital. She was an active member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she sang in the choir, played hand bells, and taught school. She was a graduate of Central High School. She enjoyed playing golf, knitting, and square dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents Wiley H. Farmer, Jr. and Theo Rigsby Farmer of Signal Mountain and her grandson, Brian Locklear of Austin, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Daniel T. McFarlan, sister Mary Parker of Hixson, and four daughters Martha (Marty) Gibson of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; Penny Masuoka of Laurel, Maryland; Sally Locklear of Huntsville, Alabama; and Linda Triplett of Benton, Tennessee. Her surviving grandchildren are Andy and Michael Gibson of Soddy Daisy; Christine Masuoka of Laurel, Maryland; Susan Locklear of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and Katy and Lydia Triplett of Benton, Tennessee. Her great-grand children are Garrett Gibson, Kayla Gibson, and Tyler Gibson. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be private for the family at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
