Obituary: Edwin Alexander McWhite, Sr, 70, passed away on , 26, 2015, at his home in Florence, SC. Mr. McWhite was born and raised in Pamplico, SC, the son of James Muldrow and Blanche (Holliday Taylor) McWhite. He lived in Florence, SC, and was predeceased by his long time companion, Gloria Mims Bullard. He was a graduate of Pamplico High School, attended Wingate University and served proudly in the US Air Force. Mr. McWhite was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and camping. He is survived by three sons, Al (Tara) McWhite of Myrtle Beach, SC; Scott (Betsy) McWhite of Columbia, SC; and Byron McWhite of Florence, SC; five grandchildren; and many close friends. Obituary: Mr. James Edward McWhite, affectionately known as, Cousin Dust and Ned, was born on 3, 1940 in Florence , South Carolina. He was the son of Matthew and Jannie McCants McWhite. He departed this earthly life to enter his Heavenly home on , 26, 2014 at his home in Gaston, South Carolina, where he slept away peacefully. Ned attended the public schools of Florence . He was converted at an early age and became a member of Salem United Methodist Church. On 20, 1959, he joined in holy matrimony to Cornetha Robinson. To this union, seven children were born. On 29, 1985, he united with Carolyn Elizabeth Lopps in marriage. Ned was a great dancer, singer, and a lover of all music. He and his cousin, Joyce, won many contests at the Savoy Manor in New York City and he sang alongside many of the best at the Apollo Theatre. Where there was music, you could definitely find him. On Christmas Day, the day before he passed away, as the music played, you could see the life in his eyes and him tapping his feet as his head swayed back and forth. That was still Our Ned. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carolyn McWhite; two brothers, Benny and John McWhite; and one sister, who was called, Sister. Left to cherish his love and memories are: four daughters, Rosella Harley of Brooklyn, NY, Carnetha (Bruce) Gray of Gaston, SC, Jacqueline McWhite of Columbia, SC and Karen McWhite (fiancé, Ray Norment) of Florence, SC; three sons, Darryl K. McWhite, Marcus (Sonni) McWhite, both of Florence, SC, and Andy Lopps of Winston-Salem, NC; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Kabertha Doctor, Shirley Graham, both of Florence, SC, Betty Robinson of a, GA, Barbara, Ila Dell, and Annie Lee Robinson of Mars Bluff, SC; aunts, Henrietta (Lawrence) Harley, Lilly Mae Kelley of Florence, SC, and Bernice McCants of Washington, DC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. |

Obituary: Ella Camily McWhite, 87, of Greenville passed away , 4, 2010. Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Cullen and Camily Ward McWhite, Sr. She graduated from Mars Hill and Southwestern Baptist Seminary. In the early 70s she worked as a director of special community services for Bacon , Alma, Ga. In 1975 she became director of Mission Friends and a business manger of Camp Rawls for Womans Missionary Union, auxiliary to SC Baptist Convention. In 1980 she became a business manager for WMU camp, working with the operation of Camp Rawls and assisting with the development of Camp La Vida. Previously she served as educational director for churches in South Carolina and Georgia. Most recently was attending West Gantt First Baptist Church in Greenville. She is survived by two brothers: Cullen B. McWhite, Jr. and Ruben D. McWhite and brother-in-law W. "Dee" Welborn; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: Thomas D. McWhite and Albert D. Obituary: Benson Carwile McWhite Greenville Benson Carwile McWhite “Mac”, 90, loving husband of Martha Ashley McWhite for 43 years, passed away 31, 2015 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville. He was born on 2, 1924 in Abbeville to John Reed and Mary Harley Carwile McWhite. A graduate of Abbeville High School, Benson entered Clemson (University) in 1940. His entire Clemson class, “the class of ‘44,” was called to active duty for World War II in early , 1944, on completion of its junior year. He was a member of the newly formed Clemson Army Signal Corps ROTC. being called to active duty, Benson was assigned to and served with the 805th Signal Service , an ultra-secret encoded radio-telephone facility that linked the War Department in Washington, DC with both the European and Pacific Theater Headquarters. created SIGSALY, America’s unbreakable secret code for secret telephony that was nicknamed “The Green Hornet” because of the sound the machine emitted. Returning to Clemson after World War II, he earned an Electrical Engineering degree in 1947. Benson accepted a position in the textile industry where he worked for over forty years with Amerotron Corp., Burlington Industries and Milliken and in various management positions. For the last fifteen years of his textile career, he served as an international trade negotiator, working with representatives of the U.S. Trade Representative, Commerce Department, Labor Department, State Department and Treasury. Benson was a devoted member of Berea Friendship United Methodist Church where he served in many positions including teacher of the Huckaby Class for over thirty years, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Administrative Council and Chairman of the Pastor Parish Relative Committee. He was a member of American Legion Post #3, A Boy Scout Advisor, member of the Inspiration Group and member of the Keowee Key Club. In addition to his wife, Benson is survived by his children, Mary McWhite Carter of Clarksville, VA, John Evans McWhite (Daphne) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, William Loftis McWhite of Latta, SC, Nancy McWhite Tackett (Tim) of South Hill, VA, John Lewis McWhite (Angela) of Spartanburg, SC, Robert Neil McWhite (Sally) of Greer, SC and Nancy McWhite Concannon (Douglas) of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was a beloved grandfather to thirteen grandchildren, Jay Carter, Gregory Silverman, Jessica, Amanda, Mari, Matthew, Caroline, Keith and Michael Todd, Collin McWhite, and Clay, John Michael and Ashley Concannon; and one great-granddaughter, Paige Carter. Benson was predeceased by his son, Thomas Benson McWhite in 2014. services will be 11:00 am , 5, 2015 in the sanctuary of Berea Friendship United Methodist Church, 8001 White Horse Road, Greenville, Sc 29611.
