Obituary: Morgan, Ada Kate, born 10, 1919 passed away on , 16, 2010 in Montgomery, AL. A native of Union Springs, AL, Ada Kate graduated HS as Valedictorian then earned her BS degree from Troy State University. teaching school in Andalusia for six years and serving as Director of the Bullock Co. Dept. of Pensions and Security, she attend the University of Chicago and acquired a MS in Social Work, thus beginning a career to which she dedicated her entire life. In 1953, she became the Director of the Montgomery Dept. of Pensions and Security where she served with distinction for 33 years. Ada Kate was instrumental in organizing the Alabama Assn. of Directors, developed its Constitution & By-Laws and served as its president from 1956-58. She was a Charter Member of the National Assn of Social Work and the Academy of Certified Social Work. She was the first Certified Social Worker in Alabama. She served as President of the Alabama Chapter from 1964-65. Ada Kate was the driving force behind the creation of the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama. Later she endowed the school with a $10,000 scholarship for graduate students. Ada Kate found time to take special social work courses at Yale Univ. and Columbia of New York. During her career she was presented with forty awards. These ranged from Woman of the Year by the Business & Professional Womens Club of Union Springs in 1978 to a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Assn. of Social Work and the Alabama Chapter. Her most meaningful award came when she was inducted into the Alabama Social Work Hall of Fame in 1998. Ada Kate retired in 1986 after 45 years of service to the State. Retired was only a word in the dictionary to Ada Kate as she continued to be active in the community in many areas of social work. She served as President of the Retired State Employees Assn. for one year. As a result of her continued involvement she received even more awards and recognition in work with the Handicap, Goodwill Industries and many more. Her sense of humor was ever present and when asked about hobbies she replied: world travel & parties. When asked about outside interests she replied: Football.Alabama & Auburn. Among her club affiliations were, Altrusa of Montgomery, Capital City Club, Knife & Fork Club, Montgomery Country Club and Union Springs Country Club. She was a member of Union Springs Presbyterian Church. Ada Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Morgan. She is survived by a niece, Gloria Pickett Nixon of Kansas City, MO.; two great-nieces Kelly Nixon (John) Rupp of San Diego, CA., Dr. Kimberly Nixon (Ryan) Hutchison of Nashville, TN., also great-great nephews and nieces; Noah Rupp, Chloe Rupp, Nicholas Hutchison, Morgan Kate Hutchison. Ada Kate was preceded in death by her long time devoted friend, James Morris. services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on , 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. William Sauser officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services . Obituary: Kenneth “Kenny” Moreland, age 38, of Montevallo, passed away 4, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Kenny attended Montevallo High School and worked for T&K Construction. He was a self-proclaimed “redneck” who loved to hunt and fish. He loved Alabama football, playing practical jokes and telling tall tales. His truest joy in life was spending time with the love of his life-his daughter-Kaylona. He was preceded in death by his father, John Moreland, and his grandmother, Virginia Simmons.
