Obituary: Ruth was the first of four girls born to Fred and Edith (Richards) Van Kleek. The girls, Ruth, Irene, Edith Marian, and Marjorie were all raised on a farm outside of Beaverton, Oregon. Ruth graduated from Beaverton High School in 1944 and was a proud member of the Golden Grads, a group made up of people who graduated over 50 years ago. Once she completed high school, Ruth began work for Ernie Masters as his assistant and became a public accountant. On 28, 1946 she married Charles Emery Moffit Jr. a few years struggling to start a family the couple was blessed with their son Charles III, commonly known as Chuck, in 1952. Together the family enjoyed two trips to Disneyland in 1957 and 1965. also made trips yearly to the Oregon coast where they enjoyed fishing and other various beach activities. Ruth continued her work as a public accountant through shifts in management with Ernie Masters and eventually left the practice to care for her husband who became ill. She did however maintain clients that she continued to serve during tax time. Ruth enjoyed reading mostly fiction and some romantic mysteries. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and enjoyed any time she was able to spend with her family. Ruth was sometimes a big winner at Bingo and after moving into her assisted living facility, looked forward to playing three times a week. She was deeply involved volunteering with St. Bartholomews Episcopal Church in Beaverton, Friends of the Beaverton Library, VFW Auxiliary where she served as treasurer and president. During her time at Laurelhurst her passion for volunteering continued as she read to children once a week. Ruth will be missed by her son; Chuck and (Robin) Moffit, sisters; Irene Van Kleek and Marjorie Thomas, grandchildren; Victoria (Sean) Smyth, Alexandria (Bill) Blanchard, Julianna Moffit and Matt Wise, great grandchildren; Bryleigh & Broughyn Smyth, Benjamin, Abigail, Elijah and Emily Blanchard, Dylan Wise, nieces; Peggy Kelly and Sally (Joe) Robinson along with many other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles and sister Edith Marian. Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to Operation Smile. |
