Obituary: Pat Meaney, 89, of Clackamas, Oregon passed away May 13, 2017 following complications from lung disease. She was born 19, 1927 in Castle Rock, Washington, to Harold and Jean Johnson. On 5,1947 Pat married Erwin Charles Meaney in Stevenson, Washington. Erwin (Erv) died in 1985. Pat is survived by her son Ron (Terri) of Portland; daughter Kate (David) Gurr of Spokane, Washington; and son Gerald (Deidre) of Portland; Sister Dorothy (Ted) Becraft of Sandy, Oregon. Pat has six grandchildren (Ryan, Shana, Tamara, Thomas, Darren and Lesley); six great-grandchildren (Gabrielle, Magnus, Dakota, Justice, Eden, and Madison) and one great-great-grandchild (Aubrey). In 1950, Pat began working at Allstate Insurance as a file clerk. Eventually she became Secretary to the District Manager and in 1970 became a Claim Examiner. In the 1971 issue of the Allstate regional newsletter "Totem" Pat was referred to as "Portland's Pretty Pat." The article goes on to say that " wondered if the mother of three pre-schoolers would stay on the job very long....Pat stayed, all right....She has held every clerical position in the office, and was the first one to hold the post of Dispatcher. In 1960 she won Allstate's Good Hands Award. Pat often remarked about how being a claim examiner made her more aware of safety in the home and on the road! She retired from Allstate in 1979. Not one to sit idly by, Pat next began working for Transit s, which was in the business of moving and installing mobile homes. Apparently one or two careers were not sufficient for this energetic woman with a "can do" positive attitude. Pat began her second career in 1988 as a server for Denny's Restaurants in Portland and Clackamas. Although it was demanding work, Pat really enjoyed her customers and they in turn included her in their family celebrations. She retired from Denny's in 2013, and enjoyed a "standing room only" retirement celebration at Shadowbrook Mobile Community in Clackamas, where she lived until her death. Because Pat's husband was in poor health off and on for many years, she helped supplement their incomes by selling Tupperware in the 1960's and then as a Jafra Skin Consultant from the late 1980's until her death. Erv was very involved in the American Legion and the 40 & 8 veterans organizations. As a result, Pat also became very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as District 8 President from 1987-88; the Societe de Femme (supporting the 40 & 8), the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and "Salt and Peppers." Anyone who knew Pat, knew that she loved to talk! It is part of the reason that she was so well suited to working with customers at Allstate, Denny's, Tupperware and Jafra. She enjoyed keeping up with current events and took copious notes about what was happening in our country. Dr. Charles Stanley, Dr. David Jeremiah and Joel Osteen were among her favorite faith leaders. provided inspiration via television when her health and mobility issues kept her homebound. Besides talking ... some of Pat's favorite pastimes were cooking (she was famous for her potato salad and chicken & dumplings) and playing golf (in the 70's and 80's). She really enjoyed watching the Golf Channel on TV and would never miss a big tournament. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Pat's Portland Adventist doctors for their care and support over the last several years, as well as to the doctors and nurses at Providence Milwaukie Hospital, where Pat spent the last two weeks of her life. In addition, the family is thankful for Pat's long time friend, companion and caregiver, Annette Anderson.
