She is preceded in death by her parents Baxton Grady Gilmore and Gladys West Gilmore, her husband Ira Daves "ID" McClurkin, Jr., in-laws Ira & Lois McClurkin, Jack & Dora Ann Wallace and niece Kitty Wallace. Jean is survived by her children, Kirk McClurkin, Davie McClurkin, Jeanie McClurkin Shaw son in-law Ray Shaw, 2 granddaughters, Catherine & Mary Kirk Shaw, niece Jacquelyn Wallace Takacs (Rich), 3 great nephews, 2 great nieces and lastly her care givers, Marie Gulley, Barbara Wheat, Dorothy Kiser, & Baptist Hospice. Jean was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School & Huntingdon with an art degree. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church & past member of Woodland Methodist Church. During her earlier years, Jean was an active member of the Woodland Methodist Women's Circle, Pike Road Civic Club, Montgomery Co. Cowbells and Farm Bureau. She was known to be an excellent cook and won awards in local cooking contests. She had an eye for design in both fashion and architecture. Jean was the family seamstress, homemaker and essential supportive role for the family farm. She was known to be strong minded. Her love for family, friends and country will be missed. Visitation will be held on , 18, 2017 at Leak Memory Chapel from 11:00 am til 11:50 am, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 12:00 pm in the Chapel, and Burial to follow at Greenwood Serenity . I.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Daves and Lois Cargile McClurkin, brother in-law Jack E. Wallace and niece Katherine Lois Wallace. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Jean Gilmore McClurkin, son Kirkpatrick Gilmore McClurkin, son Ira Daves McClurkin, III, daughter & son in-law Jeanie Clair McClurkin and Earl Raymond Shaw, Jr, granddaughters, Catherine Ann Shaw & Mary Kirkpatrick Shaw. Sister Dora Ann Wallace, niece & nephew, Jacquelyn Wallace & Richard Takacs, great nieces & nephews, Ann Takacs, Kara Coplin, Scott Takacs, Brian Takacs, & Nicholas Coplin. I.D. attended Pike Road School and graduated from High School at Marion Military Institute, Marion, AL in 1944. He graduated from AL Polytechnic Institute/Auburn Univ. in 1951 with a degree in Agriculture Science. Obituary: Alma Moreno McClurkin was born on 5, 1927 to Alma Erline James and James Edgar Moreno. She passed away on , May 4, 2017. She grew up in Montgomery, AL and told stories of walking to First Baptist Church and attending school and walking with friends to school at Bellinger Hill, Baldwin, and Dear Lanier. She attended Florida State for Women (FSU) for a year and then returned to Montgomery to take care of her Old Mama and to graduate from Huntingdon with degrees in French, Spanish, and English. She returned to Dear Lanier to teach French and Spanish, sponsor Future Teachers of America as well as French and Spanish clubs. Her claim to fame was always that she taught Bart Starr and his wife, Sherry at Dear Lanier. She was active in the Methodist Junior Fellowship programs (MJF), Dr. Fishers Leper colony mission in Thailand through a church in Union Springs, teaching school, making vestments for the church, arranging flowers for the church, and directing childrens ministry programs--- all while fulfilling the Lords call to serve and setting examples for her children. She valued education so much that she began to work on a minor in Latin and Masters in Library Science and Media at Auburn University. She then returned to Floyd Junior High as a Latin, English, Spanish teacher and Librarian. She taught over twenty years and loved her spirited students. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Earl McClurkin. She is survived by her children, Martha McClurkin Myers (Ronald L.), Earline Smith (Frank M.), and Mary Alma Neeley (Forrest); her grandchildren, John David Myers, Ronald Matthew Myers, Caroline ONeil, Debbie Myers, Matt Smith, Tyler Casey, Adam Smith, Carrie Neeley Eberly, and Collier Neeley; and four great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on , May 7, 2017 from 1:00-2:00PM with a Chapel service beginning at 2:00PM at Leak Memory Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood . He graduated from Auburn University with a business administration degree and worked as a specialist for NASA at Redstone Arsenal. He loved beekeeping, farming, yard work and riding his Harley. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Decatur. His wife, Louise B. McClure, preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Joe B. McClure and Stan S. McClure; one brother, Kyle McClure; and one sister, Christine Reeve. |
