Obituary: Maxwell Moody Jr., M.D., age 90, of Tuscaloosa, died 11, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical . Dr. Maxwell Moody Jr. was born 7, 1921, and lived most of his life in Tuscaloosa. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School at the age of 15, attended the University of Alabama, and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Moody served in the United States Army Medical Corps near the end of World War II. Dr. Moody took advanced training in Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Medicine and at the University Hospital in Birmingham. As a resident, he encouraged the University Hospital of Birmingham to invest in the life-saving flame photometer, which measures potassium and other chemicals in the blood. The hospital was so impressed with Dr. Moody that they offered him the role of Chief Resident so he would stay. Instead he was determined to return to Tuscaloosa to practice medicine. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and was a Fellow in the American of Physicians. Along with Dr. John F. Burnum, Dr. Moody pioneered the practice of internal medicine and founded Tuscaloosa Internal Medicine. With Dr. Omer Baker the three doctors were the Emergency Department at Druid City Hospital, and in the 1950's, they spent many a night making house calls. Thanks to the generosity of his friend Jack Warner, Dr. Moody raised the funds and was responsible for creating the first coronary care unit at Druid City Hospital. He continued to practice medicine until his retirement in 1987. Dr. Moody was a former president of the Tuscaloosa Medical Society, the Alabama Chapter of the American Society of Internal Medicine, and President and Chairman of the Board of the Alabama Heart Association. Dr. Moody was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Maxwell Moody Sr.; and his first wife, Betty Morrissey Moody, mother of his three children. He is survived by his wife of more than 17 years, Barbara Loftis Moody; three children and five grandchildren, Dr. Maxwell Moody Ill (Lynn Kindley Moody), Susan Moody Hughey (Gregory Reece Hughey) and daughter Morrissey Valentine Hughey, and Sims Moody Hagan (Henry Guy Hagan) and children Blair Carter Hagan, Sarah Sims Hagan and fiancé Mark Chesson, Elizabeth Bethy A. Hagan, and Maxwell Guy Hagan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Jimmy Dill and Joy and Bob Culver; his stepdaughters, Lisa Loftis-Adams and Tamara Loftis; and his step-grandchildren, Ashley Adams Hartley, Amy Adams, and Caroline Adams. Dr. Moody was an avid golfer who often regretted that he had started golf so late in life - at age 14. Even though he had six holes-in-one in his lifetime, he always laughed that he played with more persistence than talent. He loved bird hunting, particularly quail and ducks. A longtime member of Dollarhide, Dr. Moody was a devoted supporter of Ducks Unlimited and served as State Chairman for two years and a National Trustee for numerous years. Shawn Battison of Ducks Unlimited Inc. said, Max Moody was a longtime supporter, and volunteer. The money he helped raise has truly left a legacy and will allow future generations to hear the sound of the whistling of wings. He will be missed." The family would like to thank the staff of LaRocca , North River Village, and DCH Regional Medical for their excellent care. Honorary pallbearers are Tennis Jackson, Leroy McAbee, Jack Warner, Dr. Ross Vaughn and all the staff at Tuscaloosa Internal Medicine, Dr. Omer Baker, and all members of Dollarhide. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Meginniss officiating. Prior to memorial services, a private family graveside service will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. A reception will follow the memorial service at Dr. Moody's residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 605 Lurleen Wallace Boulevard North, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401; Tuscaloosa Ducks Unlimited c/o First South Farm Credit, P.O. Obituary: William R. Bill Maxwell Jr. of Clay, age 82, passed away on 21st. He is now reunited with Norma his loving wife of 55 years and son Robb who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his parents William R. Maxwell Sr. and Kittye B. Maxwell. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia George of Nashville, TN, and Mary Savoye (Walt) of Towson, Maryland. He is also survived by several brother and sister in laws and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends and extended family members. Bill graduated from Jones Valley High School in 1949 and worked for US Steel until the Korean War began in 1950. He enlisted in the US Navy for four years and after boot camp he was sent to San Diego, CA assigned to fighter squadron V.F.52. He made two trips to Korea, the first on the U.S.S. Vally Forge, C.V.45 and a second on the U.S.S. Boxer C.V.A. 21. his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1954, he returned home and married his sweet Norma. He returned to work at US Steel for a short time and left to become involved in law enforcement. He retired from the Jefferson Sheriffs Department as a lieutenant after 31 years and 2 months. Bill was a faithful member and deacon of Deerfoot Baptist Church in Trussville, AL. He was a member of Huffman Lodge 633 F&AM Zamora Shrine, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a plank owner of the The United States Navy Memorial. The funeral will be held at Ridout Chapel in Trussville on 24, 2014 at ten oclock AM, with visitation on 23rd, from six to eight oclock PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Deerfoot Baptist Church building fund. Bill was a faithful child of God, and loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and remembered. |

Obituary: MAXWELL, NORMA NELSON, age 75, was born 17, 1934 in Carbon Hill, AL, passed away , 2, 2010. She was preceded in death by her mother, Zora Nelson; father, Elbert Nelson; and son, Robb Maxwell. She is survived by her husband, Bill; brothers, James (Shirley), Larry (Peggy), Jerry (Annette), Randall (Tina), and Michael (Deborah); sisters, Lana Cody (Thomas) and Deborah Stewart (James); sister-in-laws, Virginia George and Mary Savoye (Walt); special friends, Cricket and David Shadix, Gail Wood, and Mary Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews. Norma graduated from Carbon Hill School in 1952. Two weeks after graduating she went to work at Security Commercial Bank which through the years became Regions Financial. 55 years, she decided to retire. Bill and Norma celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on 28, 2009. lived in Roebuck for 20 years and then moved to Clay for the next 30 years. Norma was a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church in Trussville. Her family will receive friends on , 6, 2010 from 5-7 P.M. at Ridouts Trussville Chapel. Her funeral service will be at the chapel on , 7, 2010 beginning at 1 P.M. with Bro. Roger Willmore officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood .
