Obituary: Harry C. Marberry died at the age of 95 after living what he called "a long and happy life." He grew up in Carbondale, Illinois and attended Southern Illinois University where he met and married his college sweetheart, Betty Gum in 1942. were married for 58 years. In 1943 he was called to active duty in the Army Air Corps and served as a weather observer for 3 years in Scotland and France. His team advised whether or not planes would fly on bombing missions. WWII he attended law school. graduating, he began work in oil and gas law, eventually practicing in Oklahoma City. His practice spanned more than 50 years. Harry and Betty were active in politics and helped found the young Republican Party and he served as Oklahoma Republican Party chairman in 1960. He was a golfer at Quail Creek Country Club, a bridge player, loved reading mysteries, and an avid traveler. He and Betty traveled the world at every chance. Betty's death in 2001, he married Dortha Belser and enjoyed continued traveling. With Dortha, he joined Westminster Presbyterian Church. Harry was an active participating member, and proud to call Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Harry leaves a sister, Helen Vogler, son, Tom (Mary Anne), daughter, Betsy (Hal); grandchildren, Katie, Beth, Scott, Tom, and Susan; 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Tammy Hopkins was his caretaker and friend the last ten years. A private interment will be followed by a memorial gathering - a Celebration of Life, at Westminster Presbyterian Church on , 21st at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Westminster Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice in his memory. |
