Obituary: ROBERT E. McGAHA Robert Eugene McGaha, of Hickory was born 5, 1934 and died , 1, 2014. Robert was an active member of West Hickory Baptist Church until his illness, serving as a Deacon and various committees over the years. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He coached Little League baseball for many years and West Hickory Baptist Church softball team winning many trophies and finished in 13th place in the World Championship in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Robert was a barber for 49 years and owner of The Hickory Barber Shop in Hickory and later The Viking Barbering and Hairstyling in Mt. View and was the owner of Mt. View Mini Storage. He served in the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. He attended Hudson High School and Clevenger Business in Hickory and graduated from Winston Salem Barber School and began his barber career in 1958. He was active in the community and served on the board for the Mt. View Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude Standridge McGaha; son, Kenneth McGaha; sisters, Wynell Hollingsworth and Carolyn Kincaid and husband, Joe Kincaid. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart of 59 years, Shirley Cook McGaha; his sons, Bobby McGaha and wife, Mary of Hickory, Philip McGaha and wife, Teresa of Statesville; daughter-in-law, Susan McGaha of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren, Ben McGaha of Valdosta, GA, Aaron McGaha of Douglasville, GA, Tyler McGaha, US Army Ft. Gordon, GA, Adam, Velez and wife Allison of Boling Springs, Paul Velez of Hickory, Charlie, Ashlyn and Alexa Rae McGaha of Statesville; great grandchild, Jaxson Liam McGaha of Valdosta, GA. Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 48 will be held prior to the Memorial Service at Catawba Memorial Park at 10:30 am on , 6th. A celebration of his life will be held at West Hickory Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Frady officiating at 1:00 pm on , 6th. The family will receive friends at the church 11:30 – 1:00 pm prior to the service. Memorials may be made to West Hickory Baptist Church or Catawba Valley Hospice House. Condolences may be made at www.catawbamemorialpark.com. Catawba Memorial Park, s & Cremations are providing services to the McGaha Family. |

Obituary: Maggie Valley-Milburn “Jim” T. McGaha, 82, died on 31, 2016, at Haywood Regional Medical . Jim was born in Cosby, TN on 16, 1933, to the late Alonzo and Nellie Brown McGaha. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. His greatest pastime was time spent with friends gathered at “THE STORE” and in the woods with his hunting buddies. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Vester McGaha; two beloved nephews; two beloved sisters-in-law; and three beloved brothers-in-law. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace Rich McGaha; two daughters, Scarlet West (Larry) and Gwen Evans (Randy); a brother, Butch McGaha (Barbara); five sisters, Ethel Hyson, Erma Bond (Jim), Thelma Keen, Barbara Hannah (Donald), and Dorothy Gardner (Bill); grandchildren, John Mark Evans, Joshua, Caleb, and Micah West; a great-granddaughter, Madi Evans; many loved nieces and nephews; and his much loved brothers and sisters of the Cliff and Wilma Rich family. service will be held at 2:00 PM on , 6, at Maggie Valley First Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerry Nelson, the Reverend Erma Bond, the Reverend Dr. Mike Odom, and the Reverend Devere Williams officiating.
