Obituary: Mike McAlister 1956- 2021 Michael Wayne (Mike) McAlister was called home to Jesus on 17, 2021, where he was greeted with open arms by his Mom and Dad. Mike was born in Dallas, NC to the late Betty Frye McAlister and Raymond Lee (Bill) McAlister. He graduated from Florence High School in 1974 and, following in the footsteps of his father, pursued a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver. He drove for Walmart for 20 years. Growing up, Mikes father instilled in him an appreciation for the outdoors, and the two of them spent many priceless moments together through their love of fishing and hunting. Those who were fortunate enough to know Mike knew a man who was loving, funny, quick-witted, and loved with his whole heart. He was kind and generous, and he gave selflessly to those in need without question or compromise. Mike was unafraid to share his genuine zeal for life; his infectious smile, keen sense of humor, and good-natured pranking flowed so naturally, and he lit up the room wherever he went. He left an indelible mark on this earth, and his absence will be felt deeply by those who knew and loved him. Mike spent the last several years caring for his beloved mother, Betty. He was his sisters best friend and a father figure to his adoring nieces, always ready to lend a hand or offer support. He found the love of his life in his girlfriend, Rhonda, who brought him so much joy and happiness. The cherished memories of those who knew and loved him will be filled with his laughter and his kind, joyful spirit. Mike is survived by his loving sister and best friend, Sandy Medley and husband Bryan, of Boone, NC; his beloved girlfriend, Rhonda Rice Mullis, of Mount Holly, NC; nieces Angie Barker Greene and husband John, of Indian Trail, NC, and Christy Long Kirby and husband Dale of Nashville, NC; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom he adored and who adored him. Private Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 Noon, , 23, 2021, at Hardin , Dallas, NC, and masks will be required. Obituary: Joseph Anthony McAlister, 73, of Conover passed away , 27, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice, Newton after a courageous battle with cancer. Born 30, 1941, he was the son of the late J.B. McAlister and the late Mildred Lewis McAlister. He was an active member of Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover. As a teenager, Joe was involved in Boy Scouts and ultimately earned his Eagle Scout award. Joe graduated from Easley High School in South Carolina in 1959. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Engineering from Furman University in 1964 and then on to Appalachian University to earn his Master of Arts in Education in 1967. This is where Joe met his wife, Ann, whom he loved dearly, and was by his side every step of the way through his battle with cancer, up until the very end. Joe was employed for the last 23 years at General Dynamics in Newton, where he made many lifelong friends and was loved by many there. Joe loved his family and especially his two grandsons, Jacob and Jackson, whom he enjoyed spending countless hours talking with them about anything from sports to his favorite fast food. In his free time, Joe loved spending time outside taking care of his numerous plants and flowers and feeding the birds and occasional deer in the backyard. He also enjoyed watching Clemson football and basketball on television. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Margaret McAlister Speaks; and a nephew, Jake Long. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Ann McAlister; daughter, Susan McAlister Martin of Conover; daughter, Amy McAlister of Conover; and two grandsons whom he adored, Jacob Teubner and Jackson Martin. A Celebration of Life service will be held on , 31, at 11:00 a.m., at Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover, with the Rev. Byron Repass officiating. Burial will be later that day at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, SC, at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends , from 10:00 to 10:45, prior to the service at the church. Obituary: James Robert McAlister, 91, surrounded by his loving family, passed away into the presence of his Lord and Savior on 18, 2009. He was born on 25, 1918 in Kentucky, to his parents Victor and Roberta McAlister. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid sports fan. He was an active member of Providence Baptist Church. Jim was a people person; he had the gift of making friends where ever he went. He worked as a private secretary for many years and enjoyed a long career in sales. His true passion and love was for his family. Obituary: Cornelia Stevenson Dickerson McAlister died on May 9, 2017, surrounded with love by her family and friends. Born in Rutherfordton, NC on May 12, 1930, Cornelia was the daughter of Lou Hairston and Mark Overton Dickerson. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rutherfordton where her mother played the organ on mornings and family continues to worship today. Cornelia graduated from St. Catherines School in Richmond, VA. and went on to attend Agnes Scott for two years before marrying Robert Vaughn McAlister of Greensboro, on 16, 1950. In 1952 Cornelia and Vaughn moved from Greensboro to Charlotte where they raised their children, enjoyed their many wonderful friends and loved life! She and Vaughn loved to travel as well as sharing their home in Linville with family and friends. Vaughn died 15, 1996. Cornelia was also predeceased by both parents, her sister Ruth Dickerson Bell, and her son Robert Vaughn McAlister, Jr. She is survived by her son Vaughns daughter Heather, daughter Lou and her husband Chris East, their children Daniel and wife Lucinda and Tevyn (Kelly) and husband Jay; son John and his wife Kelli, their daughters Lacy and Annie; son Mark and his wife Elizabeth, their children Rob and wife Katherine, Mary Kate, and Mark. Also surviving is her brother Dr. Mark O. Dickerson and wife Barbara of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, special cousins and much loved nieces and nephews from both the McAlister and Dickerson families. Cornelia loved her heritage and enjoyed tracing the history of her family of origin as well as Vaughns. Rest assured that if you are related to her, Cornelia would have known exactly how and would have celebrated the kinship! Cornelia was a long time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was proud of her children and grandchildrens involvement there. An ardent supporter of Alexander Childrens , she also was involved with the Mint Museum where she was a docent and a member of the Auxiliary, as well as the Historic Latta Plantation where she volunteered as a tour guide. Cornelia also served in the community as a member of the Junior League and the Charlotte Assembly. She was a homemaker in the very best sense of the word; creating a welcoming space to nurture and sustain the people she loved. She loved gardening and the outdoors and was always quick to call her children to share the night sky and full moon with them. Her family is grateful for the care and support of the staff at Southminster as well as the tender care of the hospice staff at the Harris Hospice of Presbyterian Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian on , May 23, 2017 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at the church, following the service. Interment will be at Green Hill in Greensboro where husband Vaughn and son Vaughn are buried.
