Obituary: Henry Mantz, age 100, of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Titusville, FL, died , 24, 2015 at Charles George VA Medical in Asheville, NC. He was born May 8, 1915 in Summit , OH to the late Jacob and Olga Beyer Mantz. Mr. Mantz was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was self-employed and worked in the Auto industry most of his life. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Mantz; one daughter, Alyce Marie Smith; and six siblings, Carl, Buddy, Emma Jean, Al, Clarence and Ed. Surviving Mr. Mantz are two sons, Henry Mantz, Jr. of Hendersonville, NC and Karl Dale Mantz and wife, Norma Jean of Melbourne, FL; one daughter, Carol Ann Robinson of Winter Park, FL; seven grandchildren, Tony Mantz, Terry Mantz, Robin Lanier, Lori Langgle, Kari Geoghean, Larry Robinson and Mark Robinson; and ten great-grandchildren, Lindsey Mantz, Maureen Markham, Matthew Mantz, Tiffanie Peet, Ryan Lanier, Amber Langgle, Melanie Langgle, Nicholas Geoghean, Matthew Geoghean and Holly Geoghean. Obituary: Bernard Manton, 91, passed away , 28, 2017 at his home in Charlotte in the company of his loving wife, Rhoda, and his devoted caregiver, Buffy. Born 11, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Jack and Blanch Manton. Following graduation from Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem he served his country during WWII and was injured while serving in the 35th Infantry Division in the US Army made famous by the movie Kellys Heroes. He then furthered his education at NC State. He met Rhoda Goodman while she was visiting her newly-married sister in Winston-Salem and a year later they were married in 1952. Mr. Manton began his career at Twin City Auto Parts in Winston-Salem as a partner. Upon moving to Charlotte, he was owner and operator of Starmount Card and News until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Manton was a founding member of Temple Emmanuel in Winston-Salem and became a member of Temple Beth El in Charlotte in 1965 serving on the Board of Trustees during construction of the new building. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and was awarded a lifetime honorary membership. He is survived by his adoring wife, Rhoda Lorraine Goodman Manton; his children, Adrienne Joyce Crossan, Alan Brian Manton (Roberta) and Frances Ann Buchanan (John); and grandchildren, Bryan Benjamin Crossan (Amy), Michael Sean Crossan and Jacob Manton; as well as his great grandson, Holden Asher. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. , 30th in the chapel of the Hebrew , 1801 Statesville Avenue. |
