Obituary: Charlotte, NC-Norma Jean Mann (MaJean), 83, of Charlotte, NC passed away afternoon, 12, 2014 at her residence. Born in Buchanan, TN on 17, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Dollie Farris Phillips. She graduated from high school In Buchanan where she was an All-star center on the basketball team receiving a full scholarship to Mississippi State. She will always be remembered as a loving mother who always put others before herself and her love of country dancing. Mrs. Mann was a member of Providence road church of Christ and retired in 1989 from AT&T where she had been employed as chief engineer. Preceding her death on May 19, 1997 was her husband, Rex Earl Mann. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Earl Mann of Charlotte, NC and Mark Richard Mann with whom she resided; sister, Velda Sissy Bruhn and husband, Ralph of Moncks Corner, SC; grandson, Ramon A. Mann and wife, Toni of Indian Trail, NC; great granddaughter, Sophia Alexis Mann of Indian Trail, NC; niece Susan Simmons and husband, Doug; nephew, Stephen Bruhn and wife, Paulette; great nephew; Scott Pearson; great-great niece and nephew, Carol Gray Pearson and Scott Pearson all of Moncks Corner, SC. Mrs. Manns wishes were no visitation or services. Friends are encouraged to visit with the family in their home at 7125 Twillingate Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215. Obituary: Marilyn Mann, 58 of Lake Junaluska passed away , 14, 2015 at J.F. Keever. Solace . She was the daughter of Wanda Mann and the late Amos R Mann. She was a very loving mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her family was always in her heart and on her mind. She loved animals and worked as a dog groomer. Obituary: Louis Henry Mann, 68, died , 6 following a brief illness. He was known as Hank by his family. Louis was born in Raleigh on 29, 1946. He is predeceased by his parents, Samuel Nicholson Mann and Margaret Joyce Altman Mann. Louis was a graduate of Millbrook High School, Louisburg , and NCSU with a BS in Economics. college he worked with the NC Dept of Transportation, and later was a real estate appraiser for most of his career. He also managed his real own estate which was a lifelong interest. Louis is survived by his sister, Margaret Mann Davis and her husband, Ashley; niece, Landy Davis; and nephew, Clarence Ashley Bo Davis III. Louis was a kind, gentle, and generous person with many friends from all walks of life. He cherished each of those friendships. In his younger years, Louis was an accomplished and competitive sailor. He used to build his own catamarans. He was proud to have once won the NC Governors Cup Regatta in his catamaran class. Fishing was also a passion, and he preferred to catch and release his fish to be caught another day. Visitation will be held at Brown Wynne , 300 St. Marys St., Raleigh, NC on , 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. services will be held , 9 at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 125 Hillsborough St., Raleigh. Burial will be at 3:30 PM in Oakdale in Washington, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2418 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 206, Raleigh, North Carolina 27607. Obituary: Lela Davenport Mann, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on 11, 2016 at the age of 96. Lela was born in Washington , North Carolina on 26, 1920. She grew up an only child on the farm, though her treasured dog Sandy was a constant companion. The first in her family to go to college, she graduated from East Carolina Teachers and taught home economics in Columbia, NC, where she met Thurston Mann in 1941. World War II interrupted their romance as he was sent to Normandy as a lieutenant in the Navy. wrote letters for four years, reunited in 1945, and were married at Edenton Street United Methodist Church the day after Thurston returned to the states. moved to Raleigh, and Lela became a devoted mother to her three children - Jeffrey, Raymond, and Richard. If Lela was anything, she was a caregiver. Even her childhood cat was the recipient of her kindness - she let him climb through the slats in the floor and sleep with her (against her mother's wishes) on cold nights. She nursed Thurston through debilitating Alzheimer's with a joyful spirit. She taught both home economics and preschool to countless students. Many remember her as a Cub Scout den mother. She was an active and charter member of Highland United Methodist Church, and nurtured friendships that spanned decades. With her boys (and later, her three grandchildren) Lela was always ready with a new game, delicious refreshment, or a comforting hug (sometimes, stinging merthiolate - but no one ever got infections!) She made perfect scrambled eggs and homemade applesauce. Her house on the Pungo River was always crawling with Mann cousins - her chocolate chess pie was a thing of legend. Lela was preceded in death by Thurston Mann - her husband of 61 years. Left to honor her love are her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Johanna, Ray and Debora, and Richard and Cathy, her grandchildren, Kevin and Brandy, Sarah and Preston, and Rebecca, and three sweet great-grand children, Landon, Oliver, and Conor. She will also be remembered by her sisters-in-law Bonnie Gunn and Kay Mann, nieces and nephews, and her extended Woodstock family. will remember the little things - her love of daisies, perfect rug fringe, her sweet tooth, and her fondness for cats - but she will be cherished for the big things - the love she sent across the ocean to Thurston, the way she raised three scrappy boys to become wonderful husbands, fathers, and uncles, the support she gave her daughters-in-law, and the grace she shared with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Let's toast to Lela Mann (with white grape juice and Sprite, of course.) A service will be held on , 16th at 2:00 PM at Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh (1901 Ridge Road).
