Obituary: When Arthur J. J. McGregor walked into the room, those in his company felt energy, an enthusiastic spontaneity. This was just one example of who Arthur was and how he impacted those around him. Arthur was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. It was as if Arthur wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives and celebrate their discoveries. Arthur was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve him well throughout his life. Arthur was born on 14, 1972 at Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Neal McGregor and Cynthia McGregor. Arthur was raised in Grandview, Missouri. Always at the ready with a good joke, he grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Arthur might describe him as an idealist, his friends and family understood well that Arthur was always in pursuit of lifes endless possibilities and opportunities available to him. Arthur had an older stepsister, Heather and an older stepbrother, Heath. Arthur was very accepting and supportive of his family. He was perceived as the central person in his family in terms of keeping communication open between the family members. Whenever discord or tension arose within the home, Arthur was typically the member who brought about resolution and harmony. These traits served Arthur well in his adult life and, along with his wit, outgoing personality, and understanding of others, drew the admiration of many who knew him. As a young boy, Arthur was able to empathize and identify with a vast array of people and personality types. This quality drew him into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. Arthur was intelligent and had little trouble getting along with his peers. He was almost always the first to jump in when it came to playing games or participating in other childhood activities. As a boy, Arthur took part in baseball and was a Boy Scout. In his spare time he liked playing with toy soldiers, space adventures, books, history documentaries and painting with water color. Arthurs memorable achievements included having a story recognized in a writing contest in High School and an art award for one of his water colors in Jr. High School. Arthur had the ability to find amusement with almost any activity he and the many childhood friends he shared might discover. During his high school years, Arthur responded enthusiastically to any new project and was regularly in search of one adventure after another. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1990. Arthur was a very good student, and generally did well in his courses. Arthur absorbed as much as he could from all of his teachers and was consistently able to tackle conceptual and abstract problems, using his imagination to master his assignments. For Arthur, school often became just an extension of playtime, thanks to his ability to turn just about anything into a game. Classmates considered Arthur a good listener, knowing that when necessary, they could go to him to discuss just about anything. His favorite classes in high school were dramatic arts, history, creative writing and debate. The teachers he enjoyed learning from the most, were Mr. Williams, Mr. Blankenship, Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Bundy and Mrs. Dunmire. In addition to writing for the GHS newspaper, Arthur was a member of the National Honor Society and Thespian Society. In High School, Arthur was cast in "Oklahoma" and starred in "Ton Of Money". He earned kudos with school administration for his contribution of a paper he wrote on "Teenage Addiction" for a grant writng project at the high school. Arthur did well in college, as a result of his comfort level with tackling new theories and his love of learning. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He also pursued graduate school, earning his Masters degree in Communication from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. His favorite courses were history, theatre history and playwriting. His favorite professor was Dr. Felcicia Londre. Arthur was not only an honors student, he was an honor scholar at UMKC. He was published in the university literary magazine, wrote an honors Thesis, and acted in theatre productions. In graduate school, he was in an Emmy Award winning student film. Arthur was in the film "Doughnuts For Revolution" which can be seen on Youtube. Arthur was very adaptable, a quality that helped him make the transition from high school to college with little difficulty. As a result, Arthurs problem solving skills and thirst for new knowledge almost guaranteed that he enjoyed virtually every class he took. Arthur was always in quest of new things to learn and experience With a talent for making acquaintances easily which in turn brought him an endless stream of friends, Arthur was very sociable and could blend without effort into any social group. Assertive and outgoing, Arthur was easy to know and demonstrated a deep concern for others. He always seemed aware of what was going on with people around him and throughout his life he made many, many friends. Arthurs dearest friends were Michael, Doug, Tristan, Edward, Tom, Thomas, Allen, Karla and Kari. Also to be included in his circle of friends would be the "Crew" at the JC Advocate. Arthur held the highest regard for the ministers he spent time with working as faith editor at the paper. Arthur was uplifted by new ideas and was excited by lifes possibilities, traits that made him an exceptional worker. His primary occupation was as a jounalist, but Arthur was also thought of as an artist and friend of man kind. He was employed for Borders Books in Lees Summit, MO and since 2007, he was a reporter for the Jackson Advocate in Grandview, MO. Arthur was enterprising, inventive and working against deadlines seemed to energize him. Arthur had the uncanny ability to identify a continued... |
